VEREENIGING. - The community of Vereeniging will be happy to know that the new police constables at the Vereeniging Police Station are ready to sweep the streets of this once beautiful town. This is after a male suspect was arrested during a multidisciplinary operation in Ver-
eeniging. A police constable arrested a suspect for being in possession of drugs. The suspect’s friend then offered the officer a R150 bribe for the freedom of his friend but unfortunately for him he was also arrested for bribery. Funda says, “Twelve people were arrested for possession of drugs, one for armed rob-
bery, two for possession of a suspected stolen firearm and ammunition, two for being undocumented, one for shoplifting, one for malicious damage to property, two for grievous bodily harm, two for business break-in and two for drunk driving.” All arrested people will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court soon.

Nuwe baadjie vir dié poskantoor
VEREENIGING. - Die AGS-gemeente van Drie Riviere het dit hul missie gemaak om die poskantoor in Drie Riviere, wat vir besoekers ‘n seer oog geword het, van hoek tot kant skoon te maak. Pastoor Hannes van der Walt het dit as een van die projekte wat die gemeente vanjaar gaan aanpak, geïdentifiseer. Die bestuur van die poskantoor het ingestem en op 18 Februarie het gemeentelede opgedaag en hul dag opgeoffer om skoon te maak. “ Die resultaat is verstommend en omliggende besighede en veral inwoners van die aftreeoord het met groot waardering reageer. Die gemeente stel hulself ten doel om die poskantoor se tuin deurlopend in stand te hou,” sê pastoor Van der Walt. Groot dank gaan aan elkeen wat die projek ondersteun, asook Drie Riviere Vleismark, Fuleni Begrafnisdienste, Yummy Snack Tuisnywerheid, die Roomyswinkel, Oasis en Solly van die poskantoor vir die oop- en toesluit en wat self ingespring het om te help.

Older Person’s Act violated by old age home owner

SHARPEVILLE. - It seems that not only did the owner of Nrate-Nhlokomele Old Age Home fail to comply with the law, but she also violated the Older Persons Act as explained by Older Person’s Social Work Official, Charlene McMillan. This Legal Notice was handed over to Nthabiseng Tamane this week, following the
removal of all 15 elderly persons last week. Another site inspection was conducted by the Department of Social Development, ELMs By-law Unit and the Sharpeville SAPS. During the site inspection, Tamane was ordered to open up the medicine cabinet, but she claimed that the key was lost. According to McMillan, Nrate -Nhlokomele was not operating in conjunction with
the Older Persons Act. “The centre failed to provide a 24-hour care and support service to frail and older persons, sport and recreational activities or counselling services to residents and family members who need it.” McMillan further explained that there was a need for the older persons to be removed from the home as the Social Development Department suspected that abuse of

SASOLBURG. - ’n Karnaval-atmosfeer het verlede Saterdag op die DP de Villiers-stadion geheers met die jaarlikse D7-interhoër wat daar plaasgevind het. ‘n Sensoriese oorlading van kleur en klank het die toeskouers begroet. Soos ouder gewoonte het General Smuts die geesbeker opgeraap, maar Vereeniging Gimmies en Dr. Malan se dirigente is vanjaar gesamentlik as die beste dirigente aangewys. Wat die byeenkoms betref, het Dr. Malan op ’n drafstap gewen, gevolg deur Heidelberg Volkskool en Vereeniging Gimnasium.

Ready for the next Warrior Race at Emerald Resort & Casino? Join 7000 competitors on March 11 and 12 as they find adventure at Emerald Resort & Casino, hosted Toyota #WARRIOR2 race powered by Reebok. “The Warrior Race is arguably one of South Africa’s largest obstacle course races and this is the second year it’s happening at Emerald Resort & Casino,” says Tanuja Gangabishun, Emerald Resort & Casino’s Marketing Executive. “Obstacle racing has become extremely popular in South Africa. One of the reasons that it became so popular is that just about anyone, from age four, can participate. All that is required is a sense of adventure and a pair of old running shoes.” Four races are available to contestants: Warrior Kids, for kids aged between 4 and 12; Rookie, a 5-6km race perfect for just about everyone and includes 15 obstacles; Commando, a 9-11km for those who want a challenge with 22 obstacles and Black Ops, a 15-17km race for the brave and fit which includes 30 obstacles. Spectators are encouraged to participate by showing their support for family and friends. The end of the 2016 Warrior Race series saw the introduction of the Sprint Race, a short course to give even more people the opportunity to experience obstacle course racing. This race is shorter, faster and highly intense, taking place over 500m coupled with 10 obstacles. Other features over the race weekend include the Grohe Rejuvenation Zone – open air Clean Up Zone, Locker Zone, Beer and Food Zone, Warrior Merchandise, VIP area option for corporate teams and many activations and competitions. Tjokkerland’s ‘Abba’ schools receive donations
VANDERBIJLPARK. - Thusong Projects is part of the Vesco Group and is the soul of Vesco as it touches the lives of the poor through a variety of projects and donations. This time the donation was made to the ‘Abba’ schools. These are poor crèches/day care centers from the townships that Tjokkerland has adopted and is assisting in terms of teach-
er development, curriculum development as well as basic resources. Thusong Projects in support of the Tjokkerland Project donated the following to five of the Abba schools: chairs and tables; educational toys; scooters and balls, small mattresses, clothing hampers for vulnerable children, and the poorest of the Abba schools also received a fridge.

Animal welfare is also one of the projects that Thusong supports. In this regard a big donation was made to PurrPaws Animal Shelter in Vaal Oewer. This donation included animal blankets, dog food, cat food and shadenetting for the kennels The handover event was attended by the CEO of ArcelorMittal SA (AMSA), Mr Wim de Klerk and his wife Mrs Erica de Klerk,
the chairperson of the Vesco Board Mr Willem Nel as well as the Vesco Group Management led by Dr Hannes Liebenberg. Dr Liebenberg in his speech thanked Mr De Klerk and his team and said that without AMSA’s support this and other donations would not have been possible. In closing the event Mr De Klerk thanked the Vesco Group for the community work they do.

Lindsay Saker grand opening VEREENIGING. - The all new state of the art Lindsay Saker Vereeniging dealership representing both Audi and Volkswagen will be celebrating the grand opening of its exciting new dealership in Vereeniging on March 4. The dealership displays a vast selection of new passenger and commercial vehicle models in addition to a wide array of used and demo models, VW MasterCars, Audi preowned and select vehicles. Lindsay Saker Vereeniging is one of the top performing Audi and Volkswagen dealerships in the country. The new dealership is situated on 22 760 square metres of land at the entrance to Vereeniging. The VW new car showroom displays 12 vehicles, Audi 8 vehicles, VW Commercial 6 vehicles, Audi preowned 15 vehicles and MasterCars 21 vehicles. The interior retail space was designed to provide a dynamic blend of relaxing atmosphere and customer friendly environment including but not limited to Wi-Fi, a coffee shop and a kiddie’s corner. The new dealership also features better technologically, an advanced service facility with 20 work bays for VW, VW Commercial and Audi. In addition it has an access friendly rolling service reception and a larger parts department. The state of the art Beissbarth wheel alignment facility includes a brake and suspension tester, tyre change and high speed wheel balancing - a new addition to the dealership. Lindsay Saker Vereeniging hosts an environmentally friendly wash bay which recycles water and hosts 10 000L water tanks. It also has an installed storm water catchment system with a capacity of 20 000 L. This means that most of the water the dealership will be using is totally off the grid. The dealership has 400 solar panels which will provide more
than 70% of its electricity consumption. “Lindsay Saker Vereeniging is an incredible new facility. As one of the top performing Audi and Volkswagen dealers in South-Africa the dealership needed an upgrade. It now makes a powerful statement for the brand, the town and most importantly its customers. Midvaal Private Hospital recently hosted a Party of Hope in aid of Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer. Hettie Gouws from Midvaal Private Hospital says, “We collected R7 225 from cupcake sales in the hospital and the company rounded the figure to R8 000.00 to donate to Cupcakes of Hope. “We know that there are a lot of children suffering from cancer, and that treatment is costly and not always paid for by medical aids. We hope that this money will help a child in desperate need of funding for treatment.” Gouws adds that the event was a combined effort from everyone in the hospital. “We had hospital staff, doctors and associates of the hospital who donated cupcakes to be sold. There were close to 800 cupcakes sold between R5 and R10. We handed over the cheque to Cupcakes of Hope ambassadors, Midvaal Private Hospital hosted a Party of Hope in aid of Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer.
