VEREENIGING. - The Kester family has been waiting for over a little more than two years to see justice prevail for the gruesome murder of their beloved daughter Ché Rudelle Fox. Ché was hit in the head with one fatal gunshot.

The incident happened in her home in Rust-ter-vaal in 2014.

Her husband, Vaal Rand Flying Squad police officer Edward Kennedy Fox, initially told the police and his colleagues that Ché Rudelle was shot by intruders.

The story took a dramatic turn this year when Kennedy was arrested for his wife’s murder. He appeared in court in Vereeniging on April 21 and was released on R10 000 bail.

The murder trial, which was supposed to commence this week in the Vereeniging High Court was postponed to Monday, December 12 due to problems with Kennedy’s legal representation.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel, said that both the state and the defence had agreed on a postponement and conditions for the accused to be given bail.

“The bail conditions are that the accused handed over his firearm to the investigating officer by 14:00 today (Tuesday) and that his legal team arrange with the SAPS for him to be placed in a position that does not require the use of a firearm.” Ché Rudelle’s father, Arnold Kes-

Hijacker kisses victim before speeding off

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Police recovered a hijacked white Ford Titanium EscoSport in dire condition at the Sebokeng Hostel last Thursday morning. The Mini SUV was allegedly hijacked in Vanderbijlpark on Wednesday night. It is said that the victim was about to drive into her yard in Vanderbijlpark when a male dragged her out of the car and kissed her before he drove off. It is said the victim (female) opened her yard gate preparatory to driving in when the suspect grabbed her by the neck and dragged her out of the car. Sergeant Getrude Makhale confirms that a case of car-hijacking was opened by the Vanderbijlpark Police.

“The victim seems to have known the suspect due to the fact that the victim asked the suspect to talk before he drove off. However, the suspect had hidden his face by wearing a balaclava,” said Makhale. The car was in a dire state when it was found. There was no-one in the car and it was broken from all sides and the airbag was out. Makhale said it was not clear whether the suspect was spinning the car or whether it had simply been in an accident.

EVATON. - New and startling revelations have been made about the Evaton Renewal Project.

Information received by Sedibeng Ster recently revealed that the highly contentious Evaton Renewal Project (ERP) has cost R470 million over a period of twelve years. Initiated in 2004, the project was intended to uplift and improve the lives of Evaton residents by developing roads, increasing sanitation, delivering housing and creating an environment conducive to the growth of the local economy. “Despite the funds that have been poured into this project, Evaton still remains one of Gauteng’s

most neglected townships. Corruption and a failure to comply with legislation has denied residents of Evaton the opportunities they were promised to improve their quality of life. Under the current ANC-led administration it is likely that this project will continue to be mired by scandals and more corrupt activities,” sources said, adding that they would write to Gauteng Cooperative Governance and Human Settlements MEC, Paul Mashatile, to request all documentation on projects rolled out through the Evaton Renewal Project since its inception in 2004. The initial intention of the ERP project was to improve the township of Evaton.

Initiation schools owners breach agreement

THE BARRAGE. - An ‘agreement’ reached to abandon initiation schools between the health department and the regional chairperson of the initiation schools hit a brick wall recently.

At least six schools operating illegally were shut down by police last week as the leaders of the schools did not heed the call made by police and the Health Department.

Police burned down five initiation schools at the Rietkuil Farm in the Barrage area.

At least six girls and 12 boys were reunited with their parents after police helped them to escape.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mofokatsane said the owners of the schools had failed to comply with government regulations. The office of the Emfuleni Local Municipality MMC for Public Safety, Councillor Zaza Raikane warned the public about the schools and suspended all initiations last month. Spienaar Mofokeng, regional leader of initiation schools, said seven boys, including one who suffers fits, were rescued from a farm near Vereeniging. “Whether registered or illegal operations, we have agreed that no initiation schools should operate this year,” said Mofokeng.

Witnesses pull out of Bophelong gang cases Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. - The police were left in limbo after witnesses of a double-murder and arson case withdrew from the case recently.

The state could not rely only on hearsay.

This comes after two members of the Diamond and Mopheme gangs were hacked to death with pangas early last month in Bophe-

long. Five shacks and four houses were set alight and some families were left with serious injuries.

The gang violence that almost literally spread like wild fire left many families with nothing.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said one suspect was arrested for the murder of Teboho Molakeng but he can-

not be linked to the arson.

Police were hobbled by the withdrawal of witnesses.

“We can do nothing once witnesses decide not to co-operate. Witnesses told police their lives would be in danger and that it would be too risky if the groups found out who was feeding the police with information.”

The owner of the house that was set alight also decided to withdraw from the case. Makhale said residents are scared to speak up about gangsters terrorising the community.

She said there are known groups that include Wrong Turns, BT, Alaska, Guptas, Diamonds, Mopheme, Marashiya, 50 Niggers, Ala 10 and DF Matsekga. They all operate around Sedibeng.

SEBOKENG. - It remains to be seen whether the Boiketlong Four will lodge a formal complaint with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) after their attorney, Raymond of Raymond Estates Incorporated, withdrew from the case following their 16-year arson sentence each on November 8. The accused are Sipho Sidney Manganye, Amatsie Dinah Makhetha and Dan Sekudu Molefe. Accused number four, Pulane Mahlangu, has been on the run since the trial. The trio were out on R1000 bail pending the outcome of their appeal. They were convicted in the Regional Court of Sebokeng on February 25, 2015.

Their euphoria was short-lived and they nearly fainted when the state apprised them that what had been struck off the roll was only their attorney-of-record. Their case remains open. Now they have to find another representative. The accused said they had paid their attorney R85 000 in cash.

“Raymond has not communicated with us since we paid him,” they said.

Unfortunately Dan Molefe passed away on November 28 at his home in Boiketlong after a long illness. He will be buried over the weekend. Makhetha and Manganye now have to face the music alone as another accused, Pulane Mahlangu is still on the run.

Raymond’s personal assistant flatly denied that their attorney had withdrawn without informing his clients: “We communicated with them through a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters.”

Matsie-Steyn commemorates World Aids Day

SHARPEVILLE. - As the entire world commemorated World Aids Day last week, learners and staff of MatsieSteyn Primary School and members of various organisations, including the community at large, took to the streets of Sharpeville in form of a march to commemorate the day and to also speak out about the 16 Days Of Activism For No Violence Against Women and Children.

The group proceeded to Phomolong’s Green Door, which is a safehaven for women and children who are in need of shelter when difficult situations arise. This was to show the foun-

der, Selloane Phethane (72) appreciation for the role she plays in the community.

Heartfelt messages were given to Phethane by various speakers. 20- year-old Portia Smith who was abused by her mother told the community how Phethane changed her life. “Even my own mother couldn’t give me the kind of love that Mama Phethane has shown me. When I was 18, I was placed here; social workers couldn’t find me shelter because I was over-age. Instead of sending me home, Mama Phethane took me in and showed me love and support. She took care of me and she always makes sure that I have everyt-

hing I need. I am grateful for her.” The school thanked Phethane by donating a box of necessities to assist victims upon their arrival; she was also given a well deserved spa day voucher.

HIV/Aids activist Mampe Dikhoeli on the day donated dignitary packs to over 50 learners at the school. Dikhoeli said it was very important to give back to young people as it contributes to community building.

Ouma Mosella, teacher and HIV and Aids organising committee member said that the idea for the event was to bring the community together in fighting against issues affecting women and children.

Hluta represents Vaal at Miss Justice Pageant Mduduzi Mathebula

SEDIBENG.- Anita Hluta, a 21-year-old model from Bophelong, represented the Vaal in the Justice Pageant in Sandton Hilton Hotel recently.

These pageants are not only for girls.

A Mr Justice Pageant ran concurrently with the Miss Justice Pageant.

Sedibeng Ster made its focal point the Miss Justice Pageant because one of their own was representing the Vaal on the big stage.

Hluta was part of the launch Crime Culture Project that made her part of the pageant. She represented a ‘no-crime’ culture as the first value of the Justice Department.

Her co-odinator Thabiso Sechele told Ster that Hluta was competing with top models across the country and it was a great privilege for her to represent the Vaal in such a prestigious pageant.

“She competed with four other models - Bokang Maphutha, Henriette Noortaman, Refiloe Sekobotsanne and Sibongile Mpemvushe, who are well-known in the modelling industry.”

Earlier this year Hluta and other competitors were given a task to teach and instil moral values to pupils in schools that combat crime from an early age. This task is the one that allowed her into the competiti-

on. According to the Department of Justice they reached over 100 schools across the country, teaching learners the moral effects of crime.

Local guy among the best VANDEBIJLPARK. - Stanley Leonard from Vanderbijlpark was selected along with 29 other filmmakers as a participant for the first ever Red Bull Amaphiko Film Festival that was held in Soweto recently. The Red Bull Amaphiko Film Festival was aimed at celebrating the power of film as a driver for social change whilst creating a platform for collaboration between aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals. The festival took place at the Eyethu Lifestyle Centre and Cinema in Soweto and filmmakers were exposed to all aspects film related – from scriptwriting, pitching, business and much more.

The Angels World Day Care Centre saw at least thirty two pupils graduating in preparation for their 12­year journey in schools of their choice next year. Principal Idah Mokate said this year the number of her pupils had increased drastically. The graduation ceremony was hosted at Oospark Primary School, Vanderbijlpark re­ cently.

OIL holds High School soccer Awards Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. - The Oliphant Institute of Leadership recently hosted a successful Inter High School Tournament Awards event at Quest Conference.

The awards were to reward Bophelong and Boipatong schools and individuals for their incredible performance during the Inter High School Tournament played earlier this year.

The former president of Safa, Dr Molefi Oliphant, is the founder of the Oliphant Institute of Leadership. Some notable names who graced the event included Safa Sedibeng President Solly Mokhabela and Emfuleni

Local Municipality MMC oforf Sports and Recreation Edwin Kele. At least 400 players were trained in marketing management, while other groups were trained to obtain drivers licenses for free.

Can somebody help me: Who said women are only good for first aid when it comes to football? TOUCHLINE is concerned because lately it is becoming a trend for women

These young women are not cheerleaders to be used as first aid personnel in the ABC Motsepe and SAB League. What annoyed TOUCHLINE most is that when these women run onto the field to attend to an injured player you will hear male soccer spectators whistling at them. Really?

TOUCHLINE doubts that those ABC Motsepe and SAB League teams use those poor women to attract soccer fans to their games. If this is the case then they undermine

the intellectual ability of women in football.

There are many more roles that women can play in football.

What those ABC Motsepe and SAB League teams’ officials want to tell us or up and coming football administrators is that women are only good for first aid? This is not the true reflection of our football – women being used to attract spectators to the games.

If club bosses want to attract more soccer spectators to their games they must organise entertainment - not use the first aid team of ladies for this purpose.

This is something that football authorities must look into because it has lately become a trend. To make matters worse, those young women are not even qualified to be conductingfirst aid!

TOUCHLINE challenges those clubs’ bosses to empower those young women by taking them to administration and coaching courses.

TOUCHLINE pleads with ABC Motsepe and SAB Leagues to hire cheerleaders instead of using young women as your marketing tools.

They are not cheerleaders….

The day programme starts at 10:00 with the u/13 finals followed by the u/15 and u/17 finals before the senior teams’ finals. The organisers promise exciting finals.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the tournament coordinator Monge Gusha said the stage is set for the finals and preparations are at an advanced stage.

“We are looking forward to the finals come Saturday and as the organisers we want to thank all the participating teams for making this tournament a success,” said Gusha.

Meanwhile, Ghetto Seven will play against Barcelona FC, while St Rumous will be up against Junior Palace FC in the semi-finals on the same day.
