Vaal mourns Archbishop Moloi P2 SEDIBENG. - The Vaal region is in mourning following the death of one of the most respected leaders in the religious community. The leader of St Paul Apostolic Faith Mission International in Small Farms, Kelello Moloi (71) died last Tuesday at the Johannesburg Hospital after a short illness. Archbishop Moloi was born in 1946 and took over the St Paul Apostolic Faith Mission International from his father John Moloi. He was ordained in 1979.

St Paul Faith Mission International is one of the biggest mission churches in the southern part of Africa with thousands of followers. The church has branches all over the country and some can also be found in neighbouring countries such as Botswana and Swaziland. “We are in deep pain. He was a true leader, a great and humble man who was guided by the Holy Spirit,” said Abraham Moloi who is the familys’ spokesperson. Archbishop Moloi’s funeral will be held on Saturday at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Cen-

Two die after murdersuicide Moleboheng Chaha

MEYERTON. - Japie Erasmus (48), co-owner of Vaal Industrial Developments (VID) in Galloway Street, Meyerton was murdered in cold blood last week by a person believed to be his ex-business partner. The incident happened at the business premises on Friday. Erasmus’ wife, Johanna Erasmus says, “Coen Fourie, former partner of Erasmus arrived at the busi-

ness premises in the early morning and asked to see Erasmus. He greeted everyone with a handshake and my husband went with him to his car to go and get some things.” The two went outside and Fourie allegedly opened fire on Erasmus. “It was literally a few seconds after they went outside when I heard the first shot. My husband ran down the stairs after he was shot and fell into his office.” said Erasmus.

SEBOKENG. - Sedibeng softball fraternity mourns the loss of the former Softball South African executive member, Reuben “Bricks” Tsunke. ‘Bra Bricks’ as he was affectionately known in the softball circles passed away on Monday after a long illness. He was instrumental in the success of softball in the Vaal. This former Kalahari softball club owner was passionate about the sport. The last time Sedibeng Ster Sport spoke to this legendary softballer was during the revival of softball tournament held at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex last year. Tsunke was a teacher by profession. He was also the president of the South African School Sports Association. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, one of the athletes trained by Tsunke, Mosiuoa Motsapi said it is a massive loss for the softball fraternity. “My softball career could not have been where it is if it wasn’t for Bra Bricks. “ He played a significant role in my career and many other youngsters in this region. He was very passionate about softball,” he concluded. Tsunke will be laid to rest at the Jacobskop cemetery on Saturday at 10:00. The service will take place at house No 20185 in Zone 14, Sebokeng.

Erasmus’ daughter Jacqueline Els told our sister newspaper Vaalweekblad that her father was shot twice outside and when he entered the office and collapsed, they tried shutting the door, but Fourie came to the office and shot him again.“My father died in our arms.We rushed him to Meyerton Fire to get medical help but unfortunately it was too late.” she said. It is said that Erasmus tried to flee the scene but the employees who were aware of what was happening closed the gates, preventing him from escaping. One of the employees even drove a forklift into Fourie’s car. Fourie drove to the gate at the back of the building, but it was also closed. Police were called and he took his own life on their arrival. Erasmus and Fourie were co-owners of Vacuum It Vanderbijlpark. They started the business in 2004 and in 2006, Erasmus withdrew from the business. A court case was pending between the two partners, but in 2008, Erasmus won the case. He then received threats, but nothing happened. “It feels as if he was snatched off from me. Without any warning he was gone. We could not even say goodbye. We are devestated,” said Mrs Erasmus. 22yearold arrested for possession of 9mm Mduduzi Mathebula

EVATON.- A 22-year-old man from Parktown in Evaton was arrested on Thursday around 11:00. The Evaton Visible Police helped to arrest this suspect who was found in possession of a 9mm pistol by Evaton SAPS sector managers and members of the Social Crime Prevention Unit. Captain Aubrey Moopeloa, police spokesperson, said, “The police were on a routine patrole when they met two suspicious young men, a 16-year-old learner and a 22-year-old who claimed he was not from the area. They

were searched and a 9mm pistol was found on the 22-year-old suspect,” said Moopeloa. According to Moopela, on further investigation police found that the firearm was suspected to have been stolen elsewhere in Zone 6 Ext 1. Moopela confirms that a case has been opened and is being investigated. “Parktown section in Evaton is notorious for crimes such as business robberies of foreign nationals’ tuckshops, street robberies and car-hijackings and that is why we suspected that these two were up to no good,” said Moopeloa.

VEREENIGING. - Suspected Nigerian and sex workers’ houses were attacked and looted in Vereeniging over the weekend.

This was in reaction to a widespread campaign against foreign drug peddlers and alleged sex workers. The whole saga spinned out of control when the homes of some for-

eign nationals and sex workers were burned and looted on Sunday night. Four houses were attacked and burned in Senator Marks, George and Stanley Streets.

Police tried to negotiate with protesters but they refused to adhere. The community members complain that the local police are doing nothing to stop drug dealers in the area. Instead, the police collect bribes from the same shops, especially from the Nigerians, they allege. “We have had enough,” they said to the police. “The drug-dealing has been going on for years, but the police just turn a blind eye. We know police officers collect money from the Nigerians and we can point out the bakkies in which they drive around.” Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda confirmed the residents wanted to attack the identified houses of Nigerians but their acts were thwarted. “Police follows up when a community barricades roads,” he said. Suspect arrested for bribery VEREENIGING. - The community of Vereeniging will be happy to know that the new police constables at the Vereeniging Police Station are ready to sweep the streets of this once beautiful town. This is after a male suspect was arrested during a multidisciplinary operation in Vereeniging. A police constable arrested a suspect for being in possession of drugs. The suspect’s friend then offered the officer a R150 bribe for the freedom of his friend but unfortunately for him he was also arrested

for bribery. Funda says, “Twelve people were arrested for possession of drugs, one for armed robbery, two for possession of a suspected stolen firearm and ammunition, two for being undocumented, one for shoplifting, one for malicious damage to property, two for grievous bodily harm, two for a business break-in and two for drunk driving.” All arrested people will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court soon.

Please accept our condolences I was one of the fortunate young people who had the opportunity to interview the late Archbishop Kelello Moloi while on an assignment for one of our past publications some years ago.

When I met him, I was surprised at how down to earth and easygoing the Archbishop was. I also realised the respect that he commanded amongst his congregation members. It was then with sadness that I, together with many, received the news of his death last week. This was a great man and as I was told of his death I said, “What a loss” During our conversation I came to realise and know of the many projects that he was involved in to uplift the community in particular those in need, the poor. His special interest in driving some church, and community-based activities throughout the southern hemisphere helped disadvantaged communities and showed the

way for those that were lost. I came to know also as I interacted with his church members, that he was tough and tender with his actions and committed to his duties. He was a dedicated Philanthropist. Archbishop Moloi was not perturbed and had the patience to give a new sense of direction. He mentored many to supervise effectively to achieve positive results in the churches’ endeavours. This was a man that presidents, ministers and many others who are highly recognised came to, to be blessed by. Our sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. The speaker of the council at the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), Maipato Tsokolibane, has warned the newly elected ward committee members that the R350 monthly stipend that is paid to the members is only going to be paid in return for hard work and commitment. ELM has 45 wards represented by ten ward committee members for a fiveyear term. The municipality will spend at least R1. 8 million per year and R5. 4 million within five years. If the committee fails to perform to the best of its ability, the speak er has the power to intervene. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by former Bafana Bafana midfielder Augustine “Mathakathi” Makalakalane who is part of the Sharpeville Concerned Sports Stakeholders. Makalakalane said this initiative aims to revive all the sporting codes in Sharpeville and to encourage all young people to participate in sports. “This initiative aims to bring sports back to Sharpeville because this area is well-known for producing household names when it comes to sport. “It is not only about football but all the sporting codes,” said Makalakalane. He also challenges the Sharpeville community to come in numbers to support the initiative. VANDERBIJLPARK. - Local masters, legends and ladies soccer teams took part in the Social Cohesion Games held at Cecil Oldridge Park over the weekend. The games were endorsed by Gauteng Premier, David Makhura in conjunction with Sedibeng Regional Masters Football Association, Sedibeng District Municipality and Safa Sedibeng. The main aim of these seven-aside games was to promote the humanity with different nationalities taking part in this initiative. One of the notable ex-professional players who took part in this tournament was former Orlando Pirates dreadlocked midfielder Joseph “China” Masondo. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, tournament director Brown Mokwena said he was tasked to coordinate these games to promote humanity amongst other things. The day started with the games between the Sedibeng Regional Masters Associations teams playing against each other, followed by the ladies soccer games. “I want to thank all the participating teams for their positive response to make this tournament a success. It was not about winning but about having fun, with the main aim of promoting humanity through sports. We all know that football is one of the sporting codes that plays a significant role in bringing people together,” he concluded. Safa Sedibeng was represented by the Safa Sedibeng REO, Beauty Molise, while Sedibeng District Municipality was represented by Bennet Mosebi and Peter Kele.

to be informed about regional football activities in this region but I was wrong. The problem here is that people who are involved in football don’t respect protocol. For example; we were told that the squad has been selected for Gauteng Future Champions but other teams know nothing about this. To make it worse, the people who were selected for the squad’s teams never even participated in the LFA junior league. Can somebody explain this? Even the Emfuleni Local Football Associa-

tion’s technical director knows nothing about the selection of the squad. How so? This is the problem every year - some coaches want to take their useless players to represent this region in tournaments, but then they fail as always. It is not a secret that some coaches and football administrators don’t respect football. The only thing they see is the opportunity to eat and sleep at the expensive hotels. But really! They don’t care about the results or the

teams’ performance, as long as their stomachs are full. TOUCHLINE doesn’t have to remind you guys that this region used to be respected when it comes to talent, but recently we are nothing but being hypocrites. Somebody must explain who is responsible for selecting players so that we can know who to point fingers at in the future. TOUCHLINE is sick and tired with these opportunists who see our football as a gravy train. We are not talking about government tenders here. We are talking about football which is our pride.
