Fun and laughter at Bantu Bonke
MEYERTON. - Midvaal Executive Mayor, Cllr Bongani Baloyi visited the Bantu Bonke community for a sports day in December and the day was fillen with fun and laughter. The day was organised to introduce children to ringball and the day was also filled with activities such as soccer and various athletic activities for the younger children. The event was the brainchild of Councillor Mary-Ann Myburgh and was also attended by community members, volunteers, Midvaal councillors and sponsors. The Chief Whip of Council, Councillor Phil Pretorius lead the Ringball training for the over nine children while Councillor Myburgh played ball with the younger children, assisted by Development, Planning and Housing MMC Peter Teixira. Protea Ringball coach Mr Jacques Hattingh from the Meyerton Ringball Club educated the children on the tactics of playing Ringball. He was joined by Midvaal’s Junior Mayor Kara
Pretorius and Junior Councillor PC Pretorius who are both u/17 SA Protea Ringball players. Cllr Baloyi expressed the fact that different sporting codes across Midvaal will assist in shaping our society from an elementary level taking it forward. The Meyerton Ringball Club and Shuan Pullock, owner of Montagues Family Restaurant in Henley on Klip, sponsored refreshments for the day and gift packs were awarded to all the children. Mr Dries Myburg also sponsored the material for and constructed the Ringball goalposts and prepared the courts for the children to play on. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and welcomed the excitement of learning how to play ringball. This is but one of many similar projects to be run in Midvaal where one of their six key Promises is to be a youth biased municipality and to get our youth to ‘play ball’.

Knights maak gereed vir 2017 Die Meyerton Knights United-rugbyklub is in 2013 deur Alwyn du Plessis en Anthony Lloyd gestig en hul tuisveld is in Begoniastraat, Meyerton.

Mr Free State wins national pageant disadvantaged communities, aged 3-6 years. This increases school retention and ultimately endeavour for each beneficiary to attain, at least a Grade12 or similar qualification. The RoleModels Foundation has initiated/supported 3 Imfundo Educare facilities, Malabar Ext6-Port Elizabeth-EC, Diepsloot-Gauteng and Bloemfontein–Free State. They are currently building an Imfundo Educare facilitiy in the Western Cape. The second project is the ‘Asanté-Neo-Life Project’. This project is about protecting and supporting abused women and children, as well as single mothers. They collect Toiletries to make up ‘New mom’ goodie bags and “Refresher Packs” for victims of abuse. The third project is the Tamakhulu Project. This project is dedicated to restoring dignity to senior citizens. Food parcels and blankets are donated to senior citizens to alleviate their dire circumstances, bringing some relief. The Rolemodels Foundation pageant is, in their own words, “an elaborate showcase of exquisite individuals, united in the purpose of serving a charitable cause”. This Annual Philanthropic Pageant is a search for individuals with leadership skills, who wish to make a positive difference in their community. This title provides a platform from which to effect community upliftment, whilst representing their province and their country. The Rolemodels slogan is “INSPIRING HOPE in the HEART of the COMMUNITY”. Out of the 28 contestants competing for the national title, Lesley blew the judges away and walked away with the title. Since the pageant was a philanthropic competition, they did not win huge financial prizes and the contestants are requested to hand in gifts as they will be shared amongst other contestants.

MEYERTON. - Tegmul Petroleum Services recently took the initiative to assist aspiring learners and its employees with finance and support through IT’S Education Fund. The aim of this Education Program is to empower students and employees to explore opportunities that will enable them to reach high levels of productivity. Students were awarded bursaries to cover their tuition and travel costs. Praise Zikhali, Mpho Masiteng, Tumahole Matubetube and Romeo Lopa are the students who were awarded bursaries. The students were identified after their hard work and dedication. Cheeky Angels Belly Dancing Studio rounded off 2016 on a highly successful note. After their annual extravaganza, and with the help of the school’s fund raising initiatives, they were able to accomplish four additional charity events. Three children’s homes were entertained and were presented with clothing, gifts, snacks and refreshments to join in the Christmas festivities. The pensioners of Pioneer House were also once again treated to a show and refreshments. Chamda appointed as new municipal manager
VEREENIGING. - The Emfuleni Local Municipality on Monday confirmed the appointment of Mr Yunus Chamda as the Municipal Manager of the Municipality as from 1 January 2017. Mr Chamda emerged as the successful candidate from 29 applicants who applied for the position. With over 20 years of experience in local government, Mr. Chamda brings a wealth
of expertise and experience to the position. As a former Mayor of the Lekoa-Vaal Metro between 1995 and 2000, a Speaker of ELM, and former Municipal Manager of the Sedibeng District, Mr. Chamda bears a deep knowledge of both the administrative and political requirements of the position. Between May and December 2016, Mr Chamda was seconded by the MEC of CoGTA in the Gauteng Province to
support and assist the Emfuleni Local Municipality. His appointment as Municipal Manager was made by the Council in December 2016, based on recommendations of an interview

The appointment is made in terms of the latest regulations regarding the appointment of senior officials of the Municipality. Mr Chamda met all the criteria in the regulations and also was the strongest candidate from the compulsory independent Competency Assessment. The new Municipal Manager, a former school teacher, has extensive academic qualifications including an Honours degree in Public Governance and Development. He is currently completing his dissertation in Public Management and Development towards a Master’s degree. The appointment is subject to a 5-year performance based contract. Over the next 6 months, all posts of the Senior Management Team (SMT) of the Emfuleni Local Municipality will also be advertised and filled as the current incumbents’ contracts expire. Run for love and charity The ever-popular Valentine’s Runs will be held on Valentine’s Day itself, this year. They will take place at Parys Golf and Country Estate (PGCE) at 18:15 on Tuesday 14 February. There are two runs Z the 10 km Night Run and the 5 km Romantic Fun Run. Both start at the boathouse at the far end of the estate. Walkers are welcome to participate in the 5 km, which is great for partners and families. Wear red or dress up in fancy dress for this fun event. The course is a loop along the gravel path alongside the Vaal River then along the roads within the estate to a viewpoint and downhill, back to the boathouse. The 10 km runners do two loops. VEREENIGING. - He always told himself that he was going to be successful. Hence -“I made my first million at 25,” Eon Mohamed says. At only 34 years of age this young, dynamic and hardworking businessman from Rust-ter– Vaal, Vereeniging, is the group Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance SA Holdings. Eon also won the Sedibeng Mayoral award for Community Development in 2015. Poverty and being raised by his single mother Jacky, who had four hungry mouths to feed, drove him to work tirelessly. Eon believes that through hard work, passion and enthusiasm dreams can be realised. His many achievements at such a young age bears testament to his conviction. The luxury fleet of cars parked outside his mother’s house is testimony to his success. Eon says making a difference in the lives of his family and community motivates him. His late father Jan van der Merwe and his uncle Dean Kyster inspired him. “I also look up to all individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who are making it in the corporate world, they make me happy. My dream is to become a billionaire and make a bigger difference in the lives of my family and community,” he says. Eon’s first job after matric was selling soap as a street vendor. Thereafter he worked as a real estate agent for the company Community Properties. After this endeavor he went for an interview at Absa bank. Absa employed him as a sales consultant. He later resigned from Absa and ventured into business. Eon started off distributing the Daily Sun newspaper as a sales vendor. He earned about R200 to R300 depending on the day’s sales. In 2006 he started Renaissance SA Engineering with the R50 000 he received as his pension payout from Absa. He built and developed it into Renaissance SA Holdings. This company now owns seven fully fledged sustainable companies employing over 800 permanent and flexi staff. It primarily serves and assists many companies in the mining, steel and chemical industries. Renaissance provides project management, plant maintenance, fabrication(all types), pipe development, welding, rigging services, motor supply and maintenance, pumps and pipe fittings, equipment, tool hire and all recruitment needs. The high unemployment rate among black people in South Africa was a significant factor for starting this company. Eon says Renaissance SA Holdings wants to be part of a competitive economy.

Eon is not only a hardworking man. He is also a loving father to his four children and his partner Priscilla. He shares a close relationship with his mother Jacky and his extended family. He is passionate about soccer and tennis. Cape Town is his favorite city. “This family knows what it is like to go to bed on an empty stomach,” Eon says. That is why he works so hard to ensure that his entire family will always have a roof over their heads, and food on their table. Eon attributes the good life he is living now to persistence, many sleepless nights and hard work. He says he learned many lessons from the mistakes he made on the way to the top. He believes in “keeping your friends close and your enemies closer”. His financial freedom was earned through blood and sweat, he says. However this businessman feels that in your quest to reach the top people should always be respected and valued. Also in 2015 Eon was awarded the Sedibeng Mayoral award for Community Development. He says this award means a lot to him as it always feels good when your work is acknowledged and valued. Giving back to his community is also dear to Eon’s heart. He employs many people in his community. He hosts an annual event in Rust-ter-Vaal where, among other activities, he distributes gifts to over 300 children from disadvantaged
backgrounds. Renaissance also sponsors and supports community teams in various sporting codes like cricket and netball. He believes it is important to support the communities where he does business. Lastly, Eon says his relationship with God is what keeps him grounded and humble. His biggest fear is not reaching his full potential. VANDERBIJLPARK. - Models and Acting Unlimited student Hlehle Ndlovu (10) Miss Petite Vaal 2015 is currently to be seen on SABC 2’s local soapie 7de Laan. Hlehle, an Emfuleni Primary scholar, started shooting from August 2016. She will be shooting until August 2017 fulltime as Khanyi in this famous tv soapie. Zelda Roelofs and her son Ian (playing the role of Thinus) also starring in 7de Laan, and Renita Lombard, were ecstatic when the talented Hlehle got the role. Zelda is Hlehle’s acting teacher and Renita, owner of Models, DanCeWorx and Acting Unlimited, have been grooming Hlehle for months and Hlehle will be building up quite a big savings account after her one-year contract is fulfilled. Renita has joined Hlehle on the set and says Hlehle is such a professional. Hlehle is loved by all fellow actors on the set and enjoys every minute of it. Mr Free State wins national pageant Schalk le Roux
SASOLBURG. – The current Mr Free State, Lesley Phooko of Sasolburg has made the town, the Vaal and the Free State proud by winning the national pageant held in Cape Town recently. Lesley clinched the Ambassador title of Welcome the Mzantzi Africa Pageant. This pageant is a charity fundraiser for projects of the ‘Rolemodels Foundation (084422NPO)’. The Rolemodels Foundation intervenes in impoverished communities throughout South Africa, specifically targeting the three most vulnerable groups within a community; early childhood development, abused women and children and senior citizens. By participating in this event, you are supporting this cause. Three projects were established to serve these groups: The Imfundo Educare and Skills Development Project. The word ‘Imfundo’ is derived from the Nguni language and directly translated means ‘the acquisition of knowledge and education’. The project mission is to initiate and sustain early childhood development facilities for children in disadvantaged communities, aged 3-6 years. This increases school retention and ultimately endeavour for each beneficiary to attain, at least a Grade12 or similar qualification. The RoleModels Foundation has initiated/ supported 3 Imfundo Educare facilities, Malabar Ext6-Port Elizabeth-EC, Diepsloot-Gauteng and Bloemfontein–Free State. They are
currently building an Imfundo Educare facilitiy in the Western Cape. The second project is the ‘Asanté-Neo-Life Project’. This project is about protecting and supporting abused women and children, as well as single mothers. They collect Toiletries to make up ‘New mom’ goodie bags and “Refresher Packs” for victims of abuse. The third project is the Tamakhulu Project. This project is dedicated to restoring dignity to senior citizens. Food parcels and blankets are donated to senior citizens to alleviate their dire circumstances, bringing some relief. The Rolemodels Foundation pageant is, in their own words, “an elaborate showcase of exquisite individuals, united in the purpose of serving a charitable cause”. This Annual Philanthropic Pageant is a search for individuals with leadership skills, who wish to make a positive difference in their community. This title provides a platform from which to effect community upliftment, whilst representing their province and their country. The Rolemodels slogan is “INSPIRING HOPE in the HEART of the COMMUNITY”. Out of the 28 contestants competing for the national title, Lesley blew the judges away and walked away with the title. Since the pageant was a philanthropic competition, they did not win huge financial prizes and the contestants are requested to hand in gifts as they will be shared amongst other contestants.
