KANTO-KALAP
mixed-used commercial and residential complex
According to historians, the word “kalap,” which is thought to be a type of tree, is where the name Calapan originates. Others claim that “kalap” also refers to conjugated forms and the act of gathering wood.
On the other side, Kanto-Kalap extends the same concept of gathering. The location is situated in a Corner Lot in Guinobatan Calapan City. The concept of everyone gathering in one corner to chat, have fun, and unwind is what this project tries to embody.
“Tara sa Kanto!”
“Taga-san ka? Taga-kanto!”

Kin-Ha
five star business hotel and resort
Taking cues from the severely endangered Tamaraw, a native of the Philippines, the “Tamaraw Horn” concept embodies the essence of resilience, strength, and harmony with nature. This concept serves as a symbolic representation of this project’s core principles and aspirations.

“Kin-Ha” derives from the Mayan language, where “Kin” translates to “Sun” and “Ha” means “Water.” This combination embodies the core elements and inspirations that drive this architectural design concept.
SUN (KIN):
Natural Light - Aims to harness the Sun’s rays to create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow within the space which create a sense of warmth, illumination, and visual interest, enhancing the overall experience.
WATER (HA):
Reflective Surfaces - Integrating water features, such as pools and fountains for a sense of tranquility and serenity to the space.

DESIGN PARAMETERS
OBJECTIVES
• To create a hub for aquaculture innovation and research.
• To establish a platform for community engagement.
• To contribute to the improvement of local infrastructure.
• To develop tourism attractions within the integrated architecture to boost regional tourism and attract visitors.
BUILDING TYPOLOGY
“ABOVE WATER”
Buildings are built above the surface of a water body. These structures are elevated on stilts, platforms, and other support systems to keep them above the water level.
KEY PROPONENTS
PRIMARY USERS
“ON WATER”
Buildings or structures that are situated directly on the surface of a water body; structures typically float or are buoyant, allowing them to remain afloat on the water.
• local residents around the municipality and the tourists
• enhance the quality of life for residents and build a sense of community ownership
SECONDARY USERS
• students, instructors, and researchers who engage with the facility for educational and research purposes
TERTIARY USERS
• government agencies and officials at local, provincial, and national levels, responsible for regulating and supporting initiatives
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
“Design is a Cultural Artifact”
The work of a designer is really at the intersection of commerce and culture, designs are good only when they are a part of culture, not just commerce.
“Design Should Delight”
Delight can come in different forms for different people, this is where empathy comes in, but most likely it is a mix of form, function and value that creates that often intangible emotional connection to a well designed thing.
