To Whom It May Concern: Janet Li worked as a student intern in our office for 4 months, from September 2018 through December 2018. The work assigned to Janet was varied and intense. Her primary assignments focused on Contract Documents for the Former Carnegie Library, Record Drawings for the Parry Sound Coast Guard Station, assistance with Phase 9 Casa Loma Contract Administration, drawings and diagrams for a Cultural Heritage Evaluation and presentation material for various projects. Janet is more advanced than other second term co‐op students that we had in our office. Her past work experience and AutoCAD skills served her well in her work term here, allowing her to quickly adapt to the office. She drew interior elevations and details for a Contract Document package, completed detailed audits of Record Drawings for compliance with client drawing standards and created three‐dimensional concept diagrams. She is resourceful and a good problem solver, who carefully studied and implemented client drawing standards. She was enthusiastic and dedicated to the work, making her a valuable team member and helping us meet critical client deadlines. Janet will be an asset to any architectural office. If you have any further questions with regard to her experience or qualifications, please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours truly,

Carrie Hunter, OAA, HBAS, M Arch Associate, Taylor Hazell Architects

Volcano House 1B Environmental Design | 2017 In collaboration with Weeney Lin Supervised by Terri Meyer Boake

The Volcano House is a research lab situated in Alaska in close proximity to a large number of volcanoes. It is designed for two volcanologists. It houses two bedrooms and fully functioning kitchen, bath, and laundry. The house is off-grid, powered by solar energy with a net zero water goal. The house features 46 solar panels and superinsulation including argon-filled, triple pane low-e glass and 140mm of insulation. Water efficient faucets are installed as well as a composting toilet and solar powered water heater. The house is raised on stilts to prevent snow blowing and piling near entrances. The garage on ground floor allows easy access for large cars that transport tools and instruments. It also acts as a vestibule.

Port Credit Bus Terminal 1B Building Construction | 2017 In Collaboration with Weeney Lin Supervised by Terri Meyer Boake

The redesigned Port Credit Bus Terminal features 70 metres of undisrupted, sheltered, steel structure. The shelter incorporates 6 metres of enclosed space that is completely protected with glass except for two side panels that act as ventilation and circulation openings. Around 9 metres of unenclosed space alternates with the enclosed spaces. This space is free of obstructions and allows passengers a clear line of sight, fresh air, and generous shade. The structure features several connection details that highlight the exquisiteness of structural steel. From pin connections to overlap plating, passengers can admire all that steel can inspire.

Elements

1A Design Studio | 2016 Supervised by Rick Andrighetti This project was an exploration of thresholds, facades, and the relationship between architectural elements. I played with the concepts of light, ceiling heights, and teasing the view. The right side of the building is completely open and recessed into the ground. It stands as a stark contrast to the left side which is a climb from a low and dark space to the open roof. Window sizes and placements tease the view of the occupants as they make their way to the top.

Library on St. Clair 1B Design Studio | 2017 Supervised by Donald McKay

The library creates a space of repose in an otherise busy and constantly changing urban environment. The library features a large two storey sitting area fo reading, mingling, and relaxing that connects with the street. It emphasizes the entrance by creating a large canopied area on the ground floor where bike parking is available and allows for interactions between the library and the urban sprawl. The library also features a recessing lecture hall on the ground floor for lectures or just lounging and a hacker’s lab for technological events.

Unravelled Pathway 2B Design Studio | 2018 Supervised by Jane Hutton

The ‘Unravelled Pathway’ is an educational walk set in an old quarry that is soon to be developed into a residential neighbourhood. The walkway is structured like a ribbon zigzagging through the different elevations created by quarry digging. It features a learning pavilion set next to a drainage basin where wildlife grows. As it nears the grand river, the pathway becomes an undulating mirage of wood and concrete creating ramps and seats that echo the energy of the river. As the river floods or as vegetation grows, the pathway changes in appearance and function. The pathway continues into the river and across to create an implied bridge for an opportunity to experience the water and force of the river.
