Thursday 27th August 2015, Term 3 Week 6

It will be a really busy last half of the term. We are looking forward to tonight’s medieval ball. The students have been practising their dance moves and will look amazing dressed up as knights, archers and princesses. The decorating of the hall is starting to take shape with swords, axes and dragons adorning the walls. We will enter the hall through a drawbridge that Mr McClintock has purposefully constructed and have photos taken while the student are in stocks!

The tension is in the air for our senior students who are preparing speeches to be shared in class. Class winners will deliver their speeches at this week’s assembly and then represent the school at the Te Puke Cluster finals, which takes place at Te Ranga Hall on the 3rd of September beginning at 9:30am. th

Te Ranga students will be entered into the Aims Games starting on the 7 of September. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Aims Games is the largest annual sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere. Year 7 and 8 students from all over New Zealand (and now Australia and the Pacific) arrive in Tauranga to compete in 23 different sporting codes. It is essentially the sporting nationals for 11-13 year olds. The Tauranga Chamber of Commerce has stated that so much extra economic activity happens in the week, that only Christmas tops it in terms of spending. 7 of our students will be competing in badminton. The competition will be extremely tough, but will provide a great opportunity for our students to test themselves against the best.

Ag Day 2015

News School Photos School photos will be taken next week on Tuesday 1st September.

Children have already been issued envelopes to place orders. If you did not receive it but would like to place an order for photos, please request another from the office.

We also have separate envelopes to order family photos and sports team photos. If you would like to order either of these, please request an envelope from the office.

School Camp 16th - 19th November We are planning a school camp at Lakes Ranch in Rotorua from 16th—19th November. We are proposing the following: Kowhai and Rimu - 1 night stay, 16-17 November $55 Pohutukawa and Totara - 2 night stay, 16-18 November $105 Kahikatea - 3 night stay, 16-19 November $155 These prices are indicative only as they are a catered option. If we choose a non catered option there may be savings to be made.

Camp Meeting - Monday 31st August 5.30pm.

This meeting will be held in Kahikatea Class to discuss the camp programme, sleeping arrangements, health and safety etc. If you are interested in being parent help on this camp, it would be very beneficial to attend this meeting.

This year Ag Day will be held on Wednesday 21st October.

Group Day will be held on Thursday 29th October. Entry forms are available from the office now. For planning purposes it would be great to have these filled in and returned as soon as you have your animal. It would even be handy to know that you are intending to enter, even if you do not have your animal yet. Just send along a message via person, phone or email to the office. Animals reared for Ag Day must be born on the following dates:

Celebration Corner  Super 4 champions for two years running!

Last Wednesday we competed in the annual competition against Rangiuru, Otamarakau, Maketu and Pukehina schools. We came 1st in hockey, 1st equal in rippa rugby and soccer and 4th in netball. Thanks to Mr. Kerr and all the parent supporters. Thanks also to Otamarakau School who always host a great event.

Practices for the production are coming along really well. Thank you so much to all those who have made the effort to come to school in the weekends for extra practices! The performances will be held in the last week of term with matinee and evening performances on both Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd September. It is important that all children are available for these performances.

Mrs Blaauw set Totara Class a technology challenge to build a bridge that was at least 15cm high and 15cm long that would hold a 300gm car. It looks like they had plenty of fun!

Once upon a time there lived a lonely dragon who had no friends. He tried to get friends but they all ran away so he found some other dragons to play with and they all become friends.

This year assembly will be held every second Friday afternoon from 1.40pm in Te Ranga Hall. Parents, caregivers and community members are always most welcome to attend.
