Umbrella Arts Magazine, published by the Quinte Arts Council, is more than a magazine it’s a launchpad for artists By telling authentic stories and showcasing creative excellence, Umbrella connects artists with audiences, opportunities, and recognition that catalyze careers.
A powerful example is the story of Tehanenia'kwè:tarons (David R. Maracle), a worldrenowned Mohawk multi-disciplinary artist and member of the Bear Clan of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. After being featured on the cover and in Umbrella, Research Casting International contacted the QAC seeking to connect with Maracle a connection that led to a significant commission Maracle went on to design and build a sacred Indigenous gathering space at Queen’s Universiy’s Albert Street residence, an enduring contribution to cultural reconciliation and Indigenous presence on campus
Umbrella not only tells the stories of artists it helps write their future.
The Quinte Arts Council has been a proud and active supporter of Bridging Communities, a visionary public art project led by celebrated mixed media artist and long-time QAC member Emebet Belete.
