The proposed site is located in a man-made island called Banding Island or Pulau Banding, within the Temenggor Lake in Perak, Malaysia. The island is aimed to be a premier heritage destination on the world ecotourism map. In the island exists a 130 million-year-old Royal Belum Rainforest that is known for nature activities such as fishing, bird watching, camping and visitation to the settlements of indigenous people or orang asli, and the Belum Rainforest Resort that gives the public an opportunity to fully experience its beauty.

The design concept is derived from the visceral observations on nature’s forms and motions captured.

The way sunlight behaves in forest, how sunlight peaks through and reflects against the leafy surroundings, allowing us to visualise Space; how way sunlight changes as we move, changes the visual of Space to Spaces.

The way tree grows so tall their leafy limbs showering its foresty presense that mirrors features, allowing us to visualise Volume.

The way tree trunks grows in a natural order of positions, again with the way sunlight behaves in forest, allowing us to visualise its Opacity. Compact, spacious, in order, and it goes on.

It’s like a journey into nothingness, we found Nature.

The proposed project located along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah of Sentul District, designed as a start-up to provide an engaging environment for the community to exchange ideas, innovate and create.

This design is strategise in consideration of the urban and social concious of the area by creating shifted spaces connected in a singular void and barrier-like structure as it is located directly opposite the main road Jalan SAS of Jalan Ipoh. The design also incorporates green space for an enclosed environment.

27 Jan 2010 Dear Mama, I wonder if you can hear me if I stare long enough into the black sky. I miss you, and it feels like my world is slowly being engulfed by the dark. How I wish I’d hold you longer close to me. It hadn’t a day since you left but I felt so empty already.

‘Us is spreading so quickly around the globe. Having you near us would be dangerous.

I know you had to leave us to keep us all safe. You were always so selfless mama.

Being the superwoman you are, I am sure that you would be able to help them find the antidote for this. I know I’ll have to face it and let go, but not today. Give me some time to grieve. I hope one day I would be able to hug you again. Until then don’t worry mama, you are kept safe.

Safe at the moon.

The project is set in the 22nd Century where viruses are spreading rapidly on earth, induced by the overpopulation. Many people are fighting for survival, doctors as well as scientist are finding it hard to find a cure. The virus is developed from dead corpse as they decay. The more people die, the quicker it spreads. On top of that, due to environmental issues, the amount of land that human can live has diminished tremendously. There is not enough land for the living, what else the dead?

Our proposal suggests a solution where the moon could be a place for the deceased. This is as the moon has no oxygen which prevents the body from decaying. There will be proposed research labs where researchers can continue find cures in a fast pace without having to worry about the condition of the bodies. Accommodation for the researches will be allocated as the starting point for the further expansion, into a city on the moon. Assuming transportation to the space is advanced in the future, families and friends can travel to moon and visit their loved ones every time they wanted to. The moon then turns into an eternal resting area.

On the moon, the bodies would be stored beneath 3D printed regolith structures to prevent it from being damaged by the UV light / meteoroids. Through a system, the bodies will be surfaced whenever there is visitation. The cemetery themed space architecture also provides facilities and spaces for those who lost their loved ones to heal and mourn in peace, away from the chaos on earth.

Mankind would return and continue to live on earth as the moon cannot sustain too many lives yet. Leaving the moon and accepting one’s death is the last stage of grief. With the moon as a permanent cenotaph on the sky whereby one can always looks up and catch the glimpse of the thin beam shooting into the cosmos – that reminds them of the long journey to the moon and reminds them that the deceased one will be kept safe in the moon.

This is a story about Sara, her mother, the earth and the moon.

Mama, It was nerve wrecking as I took a step into the climber and it began to move.

With the loud whirring and clanking machinery sound at the background, and within seconds, I couldn’t feel my legs anymore. We were out of what they called the geostationary orbit. Without the gravity pull, the view lay around us was evenmore surreal and hypnogogic - an immense field of mysterious darkness as if we just entered another dimension. A dimension where moon was the destination.

The captain turned on the artificial gravity in the climber as it ascends slowly towards the moon following a long and sturdy cable. My fingers wrapped around your cold hands and I were no longer afraid but feeling calm. Perhaps this inner peace came from the silence of the vacuum-stated cosmos or perhaps it just came from the fact that I knew you will be resting peacefully and eternally on moon.

home : redefine the future of home 2018 | by arch out loud | collaboration : Jowin Foo / JFXA

Last year, space 10 initiated a housing research project called the One Shared House 2030 with Anton & Irene that invite public to participate in the speculative process of future housing.

The project was developed as a response to the urban housing crisis that global cities will face in the coming decades. It was clear that the population growth is an inevitable factor as this is a natural phenomenon that we all can’t stop. Are we really short of housing? However, we think that the cost of housing is the achilles heel of the urban housing crisis. Co-Living and Co-Working startups mushroomed in the recent years around the globe with the vision to solve the issue at the same time promote the idea of Homo-Oeconomicus. Somehow it is counter-productive. Though we can’t deny that the “co” movement is indeed successful as this modal has assisted many individuals to achieve their entrepreneur dream whilst liberate many that wanted to sustained their life based on the ad-hoc economy. Furthermore, Paul Virilio was right about one thing in which the invention of the ship also the invention of the shipwreck.

This is because we speculate that the success of “co” movement also mark the forthcoming of another crisis like the rise of youth city and the decline of the reproduction rate. We view that the “co” movement is a gateway for youth to migrate into the city as the city is the heart of the market resources and the current co model of housing do not promote the nature of mankind in which as simple as having a family. Thus, if this condition sustained in long term, we fear that our future would be close to the dystopian future, Children Of Men depicted by P.D James. Do we really want to live in the american sitcom, F.R.I.E.N.D.S reality? Is this the end of family ?
