The library as the centre
My master‘s thesis is dedicated to the topic of library buildings and their current position in society and architecture. In my theoretical work, I reviewed theories and active design tools that are already being successfully used in the Nordic countries. In my own design, I tried to use these sociological ideas. The decisive factor for the rethinking is, above all, the importance of zoning and to generate a wide variety of places for a diversifying society. The library follows a clear concept that is solidified by the theme of zoning. The whole space is clearly devided in loud and quiet areas. This breaks down the awe that often prevents people from entering these places and creates a space for community and exchange, further education and, at the same time, peace and quiet. Centrally located is an atrium, surrounded by the serving rooms, which act as a buffer zone and separate the quiet areas from the meeting zone. Additional functions such as a restaurant and cafe emphasize the character of stay, but do not disrupte the freedom of consumtion. In a culture where people thrive for „experience“ which mostly results in consumtion the library as a centre can form an alternative. In the basement a bicycle garage underlines the sustainable basic concept and communication of a library. The existing garage is broken through by a glass cube in which the archive is located. This means you can experience already experience the use of the building even in the basement. The statics and timberconstruction details where thought through as part of the work. It was important to me to draw attention to widespread misunderstandings about library buildings.

whithout an appartment everything is nothing
This project is a social housing facility for homeless people, organized by social workers. It‘s objective is to integrate the homeless back into society and at the same time create a public place for social exchange. The building is located in Berlin-Friedrichshain, a fairly quiet neighbourhood right next to the Evangelic Church of Revelation, surrounded by schools and local families. I designed two rectangular structures, which are connected by a pavilion on the ground floor, creating an inner courtyard. In the southwest is the private entrance which is continued between the two buildings as a long arcade. The arcade is an important element of the design, which is emphasized in green colour. It serves as a communication and recreation area and creates a connection between the residents. A restaurant on the ground floor is a source of income and at the same time provides a workplace for the project participants. The pavilion creates a connection between the buildings and at the same time a separation between the public garden in the southeast and the private inner courtyard. By opening the large windows, however, this separation can be eliminated and the private area can be made public in a controlled manner. In order to integrate the project as well as possible, the garden behind the building can be rented out to the public and makes another beneficial point for the neighbourhood. Both buildings are designed as a wooden skeleton construction (CLT). The ceilings span between a centrally placed load-bearing wall and the load-bearing columns in the facade. Therefore the interior walls can be moved easily, which allows for room enlargement or uniting of residential units.

The residential units are for two to three people each, resulting in a total of 37 residents. Individual apartments are deliberately avoided in order to create certain coercion to communicate. However, due to the floor plan design with two entrances per residential unit and the central positioning of the functional rooms, it is possible for every resident to reach their own room without having to enter the shared living space. At the same time, the potential for conflict is limited by the two entrances, since it is easier to avoid each other if necessary. The common living areas are each oriented in the direction of the arcade, so communication can also develop between the different residential communities. The two-bed apartment can be converted into a couple‘s apartment simply by opening a sliding door between the two rooms.

Club Oase
The Club Oase deals with the topic of leisure activities. In the existing tram depot in Graz, a building with a free space program was developed according to our ideas. When dealing with the existing building, it was important to us to preserve the basic structure as much as possible and deal with the circumstances. In the end, we even integrated the working ditches. Also, the existing maintenance bridges can now be used to overlook the building and make a playful addition to the playground.
The entire hall is subject to the recurring horizontal and vertical dimensions of three, six and nine meters. The cornerstone of our design was to orient circles and rectangles to this grid and extrude them. Overlapping elements create exciting spaces that intertwine. A cantilever of the central tube element shows the new design also from the outside.
Under the main aspects of music, culture and sport, we have created a space that offers a wide range of possibilities, all of which are in contact with each other. From instrument makers and recording studios with their own vinyl press to theatres with tailoring and costume rentals to the skater park and marketplace, you can discover a wide variety of things in this centre and take part in them. Another focus was to expand the sparse green space in Graz by creating an inside garden. The concept is based on an interlocking of the different functions, which works across various levels. By consciously separating different areas, it is possible to open the Club Oase for nocturnal parties and events which can have their main focus in the central hall.

carpenter‘s workshop in Gori čko
The carpentry shop, which is the final project of my bachelor‘s degree, was to be located in Gorič ko, Slovenia. The hilly area is sparsely populated and mainly characterized by agriculture.
My design picks up on the shapes of the surroundings through the classic pitched roof and further through the externally visible supporting structure of the roof. Due to the spatial program, the design is divided into three parts: machine hall, hand workshop and design studio. This resulted in the basic concept of three halls. By shifting the middle part, new interfaces are created and with its different storeys, it allows interesting visual relationships. The two outer halls contain the machine and handicraft workshop, while the design studio is located on the upper floor of the two-storey middle hall. The foyer, which is the protruding entrance area at the front of the building, leads to the showroom, which extends contrary to the orientation of the halls and allows insight into the different work areas. This manages to involve the customer in the production and design of the furniture. An intermediate zone in the middle wing creates an organizational area with its own entrance for the staff and separates the visitors from the internal area in the basement.
The entire building is very symmetrical. which can be seen in the structure of the floor plan, as well as in the section and elevations. The three halls are differentiated by the various supporting structures and the position of the ridges. In keeping with the function of the building, wood predominates in the materiality.
