Venerable Luis de la Puente (1554-1624) was born in Valladolid. This is a translation of part of what is his best-known work which was published as a two-volume work in Spanish (1613) and then English (1619), the translator of the latter being translated by John Heigham. This volume makes no reference to any translator and it is not apparent if this is a copy or an original translation. The work here begins: ‘1. Meditation Of the end for which man and all things that serve him were created. Consider for what end god created you. the nearer and more Immediate end is to serve him your creatour with purity of heeart, and Sanctity of life’. Meditation subjects covered include Sinning and the Seven Deadly Sins, The Life and Works of Christ, Parables, etc. (1) £200-300
