General Description
This design consists of four different functions occupying the existing space of La Data in Urbino. The Urban/Territorial Center occupies the entire third floor with space available to be rented out for different functions. The second floor is entirely dedicated to the library, as are parts of the first floor and the main ramp. The Library consists of a digital library as well as a traditional library with bookshelves, study rooms and lounge furniture. The part of the library on the first floor consists of a book store and a large reception desk that serves as a library help desk, as well as a tourist information desk, since this is the main entrance to the space. Adjacent to this portion of the library is a bar/café that consists of a large bar on one side of a stairwell, and a lounge area on the other side. Past the bar is an enclosed private gallery space for temporary exhibitions.
Design Approach
The design of this space embraces both the heritage of Urbino, as well as the emerging and inevitable modernization of present times. The Urban/Territorial Center will be used as a permanent display of the history and development of the city of Urbino, including pictures, models and other objects that are crucial to telling the story of Urbino. The original brick walls will remain uncovered but with modern partitions to display the works. The library is both digital and traditional, therefore it will be a neutral space. There will be a well-lit area for reading and studying and comfortable and appropriate furniture for relaxing and reading. The bar/café is a classic example of Italian lifestyle. Whether you are just entering the first floor, or you are about to leave, anyone who passes through here can enjoy a coffee or a drink. This space is fun and flowing to emphasize its position in the center of the space. Because the gallery is for private functions, it is being made into a flexible space that can be interpreted as both modern and traditional. Partitions are being added between existing columns to make the most of the existing structure.

Il progetto consiste in 4 diverse funzioni che occupano lo spazio de La Data in Urbino. Il centro Urbano/Territoriale occupa l’intero terzo piano con un spazio che può essere utilizzato per diversi fini. Il secondo piano è dedicato interamente alla biblioteca che ha parte anche al primo piano e nella rampa principale. La biblioteca consiste in una biblioteca digitale e in una più tradizionale con librerie, sale studio e salotti. La parte della biblioteca al primo piano consiste in un negozio di libri e un grande banco reception che funziona come punto informazioni della libreria e come banco informazioni turistiche ed è l’entrata principale all’edificio. Adiacente all’ingresso della biblioteca c’è il bar/Cafè che consiste in un gran bar lungo la scala e in una salotto nel lato opposto. Più in la del bar si trova una galleria privata dedicata ad esibizioni temporanee.
Approccio al design
Il progetto di questo spazio abbraccia sia l’eredità di Urbino sia l’emergente ed inevitabile modernizzazione del tempo presente. Il centro Urbano/Territoriale sarà utilizzato come schermo permanente della storia e dello sviluppo di Urbino, includendo immagini, esempi e altri oggetti cruciali per raccontare la storia di Urbino. L’originale muro in mattoni rimarrà scoperto ma con moderni tramezzi per esporre il lavoro. La biblioteca è sia digitale che tradizionale quindi sarà uno spazio neutrale. Ci sarà un’area ben illuminata per la lettura e lo studio e un’area confortevole ed attrezzata per lo svago e il relax. Il bar/Cafè è un classico esempio dello stile italiano. Se stai entrando o uscendo dal primo piano, chiunque passi li può gioire di un caffè o di un drink. Questo spazio è piacevole ed è un movimento che enfatizza la sua posizione all’interno dello stabile. Essendo la galleria adibita a funzioni private, si sviluppa su uno spazio flessibile che può essere interpretato sia come moderno che come tradizionale. I tramezzi sono aggiunti alle preesistenti colonne per esaltare al meglio la struttura esistente.
