RAIL & COMMERCIAL WORK

I have worked across a diverse range of sectors . I am currently working in the rail sector but i have also worked in the commercial, aviation and prison sectors. My skilset and knowledge allows me to transfer between sectors easily meaning i can turn my hand to a new type of poject very quickly.

I am lead Architect on 2 new stations on the Bristol to Tiverton Parkway design comprising 2 platforms, footbridges and lifts. My responsibilities on these projects have been the lead architect from conception and planning within the Network Rail GRIP and PACE assurance systems coordinating multi disciplinary and architectural design teams in the UK and abroad to provide fully compliant technically compliant scheme, meeting all stakeholder requirements. In addition to this I have also been responsible for overseeing resourcing and finance in the architectural team for the project. We have received 4 more of these projects as part of the framework which I will also be overseeing as the architectural lead.

WELLINGTON & CULLOMPTON

Significant change is required to the existing London Euston Station, in response to the new High Speed 2 (HS2) terminal currently being designed and built on the existing Station’s immediate western flank. To create space for HS2, the area to the West of the Station needs to be vacated, stripped out and demolished, further expanding the demolition zone created during an initial phase of HS2 Enabling Works known as Stage A.

I was lead architect on several work packages including a 2000sqm office refurbishment and Platform 16 on the station. I Was responsible for designing and coordinating with other disciplines in the UK and India, and in the case of Hardwick House overseeing works on site.

and RIBA competition. Although we were not shortlisted we made it past the first round of judging.

I was the lead architect for this coming up with the original design concept and helping shape the design and presentation of the competition boards. The design was for a new suite of “timepieces” which can be unified or bespoke dependent upon the context and setting across the railway network and will act as a place marker and gathering point.

A New Timepiece for the Railway

Provision for a new suite of “timepieces” which can be unified or bespoke dependent upon the context and setting across the railway network and will act as a place marker and gathering point.

Various applications have been considered from integrating within the new generation of small to medium sized modular railway stations, existing railway network and associated estates such as

The variety of applications comes with the ability to integrate with the 7N tower with option for an interactive low level time screen, a smaller totem which mirrors the tower, standalone surface mounted, a free-standing platform / forecourt furniture piece, and a canopy or column mounted application. These allow for the timepiece to have various sight lines and legibility as it allows for multiple versions to be installed across the network.

As part of works for Crossrail and Heathrow Express rebranding Heathrow Airport required the installation of new automated gate lines and ticket offices across multiple areas at the Airport and Paddington mainline station. The project even though small valuing around £1ml was complex with a large amount of stakeholder requirements to consider. I was the architectural design lead from concept through to delivery. The project completed in May 2018 and was very well recieved by all.

Parkhall Estate is a business centre in an old telephone factory located in Dulwich in South East London. As part of an extensive refurbishment to the common areas, a new cafe was designed to become a focal point for the building and local community. The value of the project was around £500k. My role on the project involved responsibility for all aspects of the design and administering the contract on site.

Working as part of team splitting time between the Epsom and London office developing modular construction elements in Revit for modular category D prisons, this project required me to work across two offices. While it was a challenge, it allowed me to have more exposure to other areas of the business operating in different sectors.

EDUCATION PROJECTS 2

I Have worked on many education projects across my career performing several different roles from client side on small primary and secondary schools to contractor side on large scale further education projects. This section is a small selection of these projects where i have had the largest involvement.

I was a key member of the design team developing a £35ml FE college building in Twickenham. Working within a multi disciplinary team to produce the design up to stage 5. Following this we were novated over to contractor side and I was Responsible for overseeing the successful completion of works on site, acting as the main client interface with the contractor ISG. I maintained a good relationship with ISG delivering information whilst the project was moving at a fast pace on site and working with my team to bring to meet the appropriate deadlines. Feedback from ISG and the Atkins internal project manager Michael Anson was very complimentary of the overall performance highlighting my commercial awareness in raising the risks to him at the appropriate time and delivering a high standard of technical information.

OCKENDON SCHOOL

The Music Block was the first phase of a wider £15ml refurbishment and extension to The Ockendon School in Thurrock. It is a single storey building containing specialist music teaching and recital rooms and also includes 4 general classroms for teaching other subjects. My role was assisting in creating all drawings from planning, through to construction including plans, 1:20 sections, 1:5 details and NBS specifications. I also assisted the project architect running the job on site.

MUSIC ROOM SECTION

I was responsible for the technical design up to Stage 4 of the Sports Building at Richmond College. Initially on the project i was part of a team producing a planning report up to Stage 2. Following the completion of the main building and the development of the next phase I was responsible for technically reviewing the design information and preparing the scheme for a Tender submission. This included liaising with other disciplines internally, working with specialist manufacturers to produce technical details and full NBS specification using NBS create. This was a project I pushed to develop as I had good knowledge of the site and project following my work on the main building.

Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) required a new Sixth Form Centre and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) unit at St Crispin’s school. The existing school is a listed post-war building, featuring as an exemplar school in one of the early building bulletins. The new building was designed using principles set out in the building bulletin, with special consideration given to siting, form, materials and fenestration. I assisted with the design development, planning and tender packages utilising Revit. The building was completed in August 2017.

PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS

Mittelman Associates LLP is based in Dulwich, South London, where many of the firm’s private residential commissions are based. The private residential work includes all areas of central and outer London, covering everything from refurbishment and extensions, to new homes. I worked at the firm between February 2011 and December 2014. I worked on a number of projects through from design to completion, working on my own or as part of a team with the project architects.

62 LEOPOLD ROAD

62 Leopold Road is a another property in the Wimbledon area It is mid terrace in a row of a staggered 1970s houses. I designed a single storey rear extension including internal joinery items. The project was the first project in the London Borough of Merton to be built using the extended permitted development rights . I was responsible for all aspects of the design up to construction phase where the client took over and oversaw the w orks on site. The project was completed in 2014

Lane Gardens is a 6 bedroom semi-detached house including a roof conversion. The proposal for the extension is to provide additional family accommodation with a new ground floor kitchen, family room, a basement study area, guest room and swimming pool. We have taken the project through all the neccesary approvals and worked with specialist contractors to design the basement and pool. Unfortunatley, due to budget constraints only the ground floor has been realised.

1A Winterbrook road is an existing 6 bedroom family house in Herne Hill. When the loft was originally converted it was not insulated, which left it unusable. It was stripped back, brought up to current building regulations and divided into a shower room, lounge and bedroom. The client wanted natural light in the bathroom so I devised this detail as Dulwich Estate rules do not permit rooflights on the front elevation. The project was completed in 2015 with a budget of around £35k.

The centre for human diagnostics will be a centre where humans can have nanotech installed which will diagnose illness early with treatment outcomes decided by a team of doctors and nurses at its centre. Nanotechnology is significant but it is important that treatment pathways are decided by doctors. The centre will also have a research and development element dedicated to further developing nanotech to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of fatal diseases and problems in the body.

The Green City Walk aims to create a wellbeing and green network in the city of London for commuters to pause, take a break and reflect during the work week. The route will be a slower route for commuters wanting to take a more scenic relaxed route to work and a place to pause for reflection during the work day. It will also connect up to a wider network of unknown hidden spaces across the city. It also provides an opportunity to absorb harmful pollution along the route with the use of specialist plant species. As our cities change and less office space will be needed it will begin to take over some of the existing office spaces with winter gardens, spas and health food restaurants.
