How To Choose Fishing Rod For Grouper

The fishing gears used to fish the fishes vary widely and this obviously depends on the fishes that are targeted. Grouper is one such fish which is mostly fished with the use of fishing rods and reels. There are many different types of grouper found in coastal areas and depending upon their sizes, they can be caught through various techniques and devices.

For instance, the smaller forms of groupers can be caught with a fishing rod and line. In this case, a spinning reel is attached to the rod and a light but strong fishing line is used. This fisherman's knot should have been tied by you perfectly well so that it does not come off while you fight for your fish. As for the rods, a four-feet rod is considered to be the best as you can fight a grouper with it easily.

For larger groupers or those which are medium sized, conventional fishing rods and reels would not prove to be too useful. The reason being that they have a tendency of breaking down if they get slammed against rocks or the marine organisms. Under such circumstances, a specialized grouper fishing rod and reel comes in very handy as it is specially designed for catching these grouper fishes.

First of all, a strong but slender pole should be chosen that would not snap or break down under the pressure of fighting with a grouper. You can opt for fiberglass rods as they are considered to be the best for catching groupers. The tip of the rod should have a fast action so that it can bend easily on hooking a grouper. You will also need to select a strong but light reel as well because you might need to use more than one bait at times on your fishing rods.

The reason why it is important to consider all these factors is because you would never want the grouper to get away and this can happen if your fishing rod and reel fail you. You might need to use some additional gears or equipment while using a grouper fishing line but whatever you do, make sure that it does not hamper with your fishing efforts.

The next thing to do is choose the right kind of fishing line. Since you are angling a grouper, it must be very strong and should not snap down on the hook or lure. You will need a 100 to 200 pound-test fishing line for this purpose. It might sound a bit too heavy but once you have used it, you would realize that it is not. This is because you are playing with a living creature that can fight you back with all its force.

Grouper fishing rods are usually around 12 feet long and so should be your fishing line. You will need to attach the reel at the opposite end of the fishing rod and knot it very well so that there is no scope of the line unravelling.
