Best Fishing Line For Florida Snapper

The best fishing line for Florida snapper is a question we get often, and it's easy to understand why. Snapper fishing is fast-paced, and you need to be able to trust that your line won't snap on the hookset or when the fish makes a run. We also like using braid while snapper fishing because it allows the fish to run without feeling any resistance. If you are trying to stop a big snapper, your arms will thank you for using braid.

You may have heard of fluorocarbon fishing line, which is often used by anglers seeking to limit their visibility to fish underwater. Fluorocarbon has some unique properties that make it great for certain applications. It can be used as a substitute for braid when fishing for snapper, but it shouldn't be the only line you use.

When I was deciding which fishing line to use while snapper fishing in Florida , I talked with several experienced anglers including Capt. Chris Dorsett of Pro Snapper Fishing Charters . I told him I wanted to do my part in helping people find the best fishing line for their snapper outing, and he helped me understand what you need to consider when choosing a line.

"It's hard to recommend just one brand of fishing line for Florida snapper because there are so many factors that come into play," Dorsett said. "If I had to narrow it down, I would say you need fluorocarbon for clear water or under heavy grass (braid will tangle around the grass) and mono for dirty water or casting into the wind. The mono should be at least 20-pound test."

What fishing line is best for snapper? Fluorocarbon I believe, is perfect for sight fishing in the clear water because the slightly heavier line sinks. But you should always be prepared by carrying mono as a backup... especially when it's windy out."

As Dorsett mentioned, fluorocarbon can be used in both dirty or clear water because of its density. It's also a great option for anglers who are concerned with the visibility of their fishing line. Fluorocarbon has some unique features that make it ideal for many fishing scenarios.

"What makes fluoro different from mono is its density," Dorsett said. "It sinks and doesn't give off any detectable vibration in clear water."
