METALLURGY

Metallurgy demands refractory materials that perform consistently in the toughest conditions, time after time.

We help manufacturers to achieve reliable results, with a range of products that includes:

6
7
8

COATINGS & GLAZES FOR BLACK REFRACTORIES

The continuous casting process employed in modern steel manufacturing demands high-performance black refractory products for flow control.

Our range of specialist coatings and glazes helps to protect these refractories during both the pre-heat and casting phases.

We also offer coatings and glazes to protect black refractory crucibles used in more traditional methods of alloy smelting.

METALLURGY 9

FORGING FLUXES

Forging fluxes are used in the production of precision forged metal components, such as compressor blades, stators and other highstress engine parts.

Our specialist glasses act as a lubricant, protecting the part during both preheating and forging to minimise loss or finishing work. Consistent quality in terms of the glasses’ chemical and physical properties ensures maximum performance every time.

METALLURGY 10
11
12

EXTRUSION GLASSES

Our specialist extrusion glasses are used in the forming of stainless-steel billets into seamless tubes and profiles, protecting the metal during preheating and the extrusion process.

To guarantee performance, it’s imperative that extrusion glasses meet an exacting set of specifications with tight control of chemical and physical properties. These parameters are continuously monitored throughout the manufacturing of all of our glasses, ensuring that our customers get the quality and consistency they demand.

METALLURGY 13

DENTAL/ MEDICAL

Glass is a key ingredient in dental restoration materials, enhancing both appearance and durability as a high-performance inorganic filler.

With over 20 years’ experience in the dental restoration industry, we offer a wide range of glass solutions for glass ionomers and composites.

15

DENTAL / MEDICAL KEY FEATURES

HIGH TRANSPARENCY

A clean grinding process allows us to match the refractive index of our glass to the most widely used dental resins (from 1.50 up to 1.61).

OPTIMAL FLOURINE LEVEL

Unlike traditional glass melting methods, our custom-built kilns and unique ‘cold crust’ technique ensure that 98% of volatiles are retained, with fluorine content up to 25 wt%.

ULTRA-FINE PARTICLE SIZES

We produce powders in a range of grain sizes, with D50 values as low as 0.7 all the way up to 10 microns.

16

CONTROLLED CHEMISTRY

Rigorous control throughout production (with an enhanced ISO 9001 quality system) ensures that all our materials retain consistent chemical and physical properties.

FULLY CUSTOMISABLE

Our glasses are supplied either as quenched pieces (frit) or as a spray-dried powder, available in a particle size of your choice with fully-bespoke manufacturing to your specifications also available.

17

INERT GLASSES

A range of barium containing glasses to improve the mechanical strength, durability and appearance of your composite.

Our inert glasses can be supplied in crystal form or as spray-dried powders with D50 values typically in the range of 0.7μm to 1.5μm. We can meet your PSD specifications to ensure correct packing density and durability.

18
19
20

DENTAL / MEDICAL

REACTIVE GLASSES

Reactive glasses with fluorine content up to 25 wt%, for use in glass ionomers applications. Glass chemistry can be optimised to your own formulation.

Our reactive glasses are available as glass crystal (water-quenched glass) or can be ground to a specific particle size distribution to suit your requirements. Powders are spray-dried to ensure ease of handling without compromising ability to disperse freely into liquids.

21

GLASS CERAMICS

Glasses manufactured via our usual melting method then quenched to a glassy state, for use in all-ceramic crowns and for porcelain fused to metal crowns. These products are supplied as crushed glass pieces or as a powder, ready for further processing and eventual sintering to a ceramic phase.

23
24

DENTAL / MEDICAL

BIOACTIVE GLASS

Bioactive glass offers preventative and therapeutic properties in dental filling composites. Our range includes both fluoridecontaining (BiominF) and chloride-containing (BiominC) bioactive glasses.

25

A PARTNERSHIP THAT PUTS YOU IN CONTROL

26

DENTAL / MEDICAL

Many of our customers’ bespoke dental glasses started life as research and development projects with our experts working in collaboration with the customer’s technical team.

We can take a glass from laboratory proof of concept to a fully commercialised product. Our composition-dedicated kilns and smallscale grinding facilities allow us to produce cost-effective materials tailored to your specifications. This allows you to choose the exact chemistry of your glass with total control of the refractive index, radiopacity and reactivity.

27

ELECTRONICS

Harnessing the excellent insulating properties of glass, we provide a growing range of material solutions for electronic packaging. From high-lead fluxes to RoHS-compliant dielectrics, we can customise materials for specific applications and substrates, and for specific temperatures or thermal expansion coefficients.

28
29

WASTE

ENCAPSULATION

We supply a range of high-specification glass solutions for the encapsulation of nuclear waste. With more than 20 years’ experience in this sector, we’ve built a solid reputation for quality and reliability.

We can produce water-quenched glass crystal or water-cooled flake frit, in whichever grade your feed system requires.

30
31

CERAMICS

With experience in ceramics stretching back to 1912, we know how the industry has changed and understand the demands of modern day manufacturing.

We help our customers to achieve consistent quality with a range of products that includes...

32
33

FRITS

We offer a wide range of lead-free transparent, opaque and coloured frits for use in multiple applications, all produced to stringent quality standards at our own dedicated manufacturing plant.

Our facilities give us the flexibility to melt glass in different quantities, from 1kg laboratory melting up to 8 tonnes per day continuous kiln. As well as our own glass formulations, we also melt formulations / recipes on behalf of our customers. For this we can provide all, some or none of the raw materials, depending on your requirements.

We’re proud of our outstanding quality record in glass production. Much of this is down to the stringent controls put in place and managed by our dedicated glass laboratory, a facility from which we’ve developed and produced some of the best bespoke frits currently used in both mainline and niche industries.
