James Cropper Pride Awards 2012/13

2012/13 Pride Winners This is the fourth year of the James Cropper PRIDE AWARDS which serve to reconfirm our commitment to our values and celebrate outstanding achievement and effort across various categories.

Employees are nominated by their colleagues.

SAFETY IMPROVEMENT Our absolute commitment to safety needs passionate safety champions throughout the organisation. Winners of this award have all contributed to making the workplace safer for everyone and have been ready to challenge unsafe practices wherever they have seen them.

The winner of this category is; Dave Cornell (JCSP High Bay Warehouse Operator)

Dave, who is an active safety rep, strives at all times to improve safety and is always willing to assist on the various practical issues that arise and on the continuous risk assessments that have to be managed. Without Dave’s leadership and involvement, demanding projects would have been less effectively deployed. Dave has spent time helping to develop the lone working safe system and is training other crew members on how to fill in a RASSOW (Risk Assessment on Safety Systems of Work).

COMMUNITY The Mill has been a central part of the local community for 168 years. Many employees make a valuable contribution to the fabric of life in Burneside and South Lakeland, whether in education, sport or charities activities. 91% of our employees live within 20 miles of Burneside.

The winner of this category is; Jamie Ellis (JCSP Dryerman’s Assistant)

Jamie is a passionate, tireless and dedicated fundraiser. Whether it’s a large charity event or raising cash for the local junior football team, Jamie shows the same level of commitment and enthusiasm.

Recently, Jamie organised a tractor pull from Sedbergh to Kendal, bringing local communities together and raising over ÂŁ4000 for a Motor Neurone foundation.

SUPPORT FOR COLLEAGUES Life inevitably throws up challenges to all of us from time to time, either at work or in our private lives. This award recognises those individuals who colleagues know they can turn to for help, advice or simply someone to talk to.

The winners in this category are; Joint Winners Judith Burrow (TFP, Customer Services Assistant) Julia Harrison (JC IT Support Analyst) Commendation John Gibson (JCSP Slitterman)

Judith has a positive, forwardlooking attitude and boundless energy. Judith’s unselfish approach, dedication and constant consideration of the wider picture makes a difference to those around her , from Burneside to Crewe to Schenectady - she is an inspiration to the TFP team.

SUPPORT FOR COLLEAGUES

Julia has a busy and demanding role within the ISD department but still finds time to support the Learn at Work campaign. Throughout the year, Julia works hard to come up with new ideas related to Learn at Work which ensures that employees are offered opportunities to develop their own skills and knowledge.

Many employees have secured nationally-recognised qualifications because of Julia’s involvement, who has been recognised nationally for her contribution and work.

John fulfils a role within a busy part of the papermaking finishing department and is a good communicator which is important. John’s colleagues consider him to be a person that they can turn to when things go wrong or if they need help and support. His knowledge, approach and support means that things get done as well as possible which means we can satisfy our customers and avoid waste or lost time.

INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY A key element in ensuring we maintain a competitive advantage and help our customers to become more successful, we must continue to be innovative and creative.

The winners in this category are; Winner Andrew Herron (JC Engineering Co-ordinator) Commendation Liam Teasdale (JCSP Slitterman)

Andrew is a champion in energy saving initiatives, bringing innovative ideas and solutions to save energy which has both an environmental and financial benefits. Through development of machine capability , processes and better design, Andrew has helped to create a better, less manual-intensive workplace.

INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY

Liam constantly shows that he is a practical, positive and pro-active team member ins an area which offers us constant challenge. There are examples where Liam’s quick response in a safe and responsible manner, has helped the team and business to ensure processes are not disrupted and deadlines on quality and service are achieved.

CUSTOMER SERVICE Our statement of Values recognises customers as the lifeblood of our business.

The winners in this category are; Joint Winners Roger Moffatt (JCSP, Embossing Operator) Bridget Wedderburn (TFP, Materials Specialist)

Roger works on the Farmer Norton in Atcost where he embosses some of the more difficult products to meet the exacting customer standards and new product development projects. This service is central to JCSP strategy to offer clients bespoke services to assist their own creative process. Despite frequent operational challenges, Roger is always positive and is prepared to ‘baby sit ’ the projects to meet the tight deadlines and quality standards.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Bridget has shown unrelenting commitment and enthusiasm beyond the call of duty, in particular with regards to TFP’s partnership with a client based in the USA who visits TFP UK head office and manufacturing facility to progress complex project and product development. Bridget’s coordination on the production machine ensures we meet customer expectations and provide the support required to support a successful collaboration.

Furthermore, Bridget continues to offer colleagues support as required.

TAKING PRIDE Our value statement talks about having high standards in everything we do and this category recognises those employees who set the bar when it comes to doing their job to the highest personal and professional standards.

The winner of this category is; Mandy Bond (JC Van Driver & Cleaner)

Our working environment is very important and how we take care of it and present ourselves both internally and externally, is considered as being very important. Mandy is always more than happy to help whether it’s running errands or undertaking other tasks relevant to her role. The manner in which Mandy approaches each day reflects her pride and conscientious nature, always going the extra mile with a smile.
