MTC Testing The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC Testing) is a key stage two assessment that tests year 4 pupils' knowledge of the multiplication tables within 12 x 12. It was introduced in the 2019/2020 academic year, and it consists of an online test with 25 questions. Each question must be answered within six seconds, and children are given a time limit of two minutes to complete the test. Pupils sit the MTC at the end of year 4. That’s because from year 2 to year 4 they will continuously build upon their knowledge. So, by the end of that school year, they should know all the multiplication facts within the taught times tables. The MTC (Multiplication Tables Check) is an assessment to test how well children know their times tables off by heart. The importance of being able to recall multiplication facts fluently is that it provides a strong foundation for future maths learning. Children who have a good understanding of their times tables are more likely to progress well in maths, and be able to solve more complex calculations. In addition, once kids have memorized their times tables, they can move on to more complex math concepts and won't need to waste time on simple calculations. Instead, they'll be able to quickly recall these facts and use that time to focus on more difficult questions with multiple digit numbers.
