Along the flowing river, the rising winds gently rustle the leaves in this place called The Dragons’ Tale. This is a community space for people to enjoy the harmony of beautiful architecture and spiritual scenery.
In revitalizing the community center in Rio Vista’s quaint town, beauty was our focus. During a site visit, my partner had a dream that she was approached by two dragons. The repeating curves are a motif found all over the architecture and site development inspired by that dream. Also, this stands as a historic memorial for the working Chinese and Japanese people who perished from Rio Vista’s flood in 1862 and fire in 1893. We used elements from traditional Chinese gardens and Japanese architecture.

The Dragons’ Tale represents my true love for the arts of architecture. When studying the history of architecture, I am in Challenge, my partner and I made beauty the focus of this project. Without words, this com
n awe that we can come together to design such beautiful places and spaces; this is my why. In The Living Community mmunity center brings about a spirit of invitation, elegance, and joy for the people it inhabits.

On a summer day in this small urban farm, the people of Rancho Cordova retreat from the busy city back to Mother Soil. The interpretive center is a space for all people to learn about how their food is made.
During a site visit, the founder of Soil Born Farms said to imagine a space where “a child becomes a farmer.” (the mantra of the project). Sustainable design is priority one. The wood, steel, and glass interplay in an expansive space to connect to the outdoors. Large, north-facing windows allow for views and optimal daylighting, with operable windows for natural ventilation. With multiple covered outside spaces, you get to enjoy the nature around you, even on a harsh sunny or rainy day.

Tiny House Village is a temporary housing project for an apprenticeship program for beginning farmers. The goal is equip them with sufficient training, work experience, and business skills to manage established farms or to successfully start their own.
In order to be built in multitudes, the tiny house is designed simply. Sustainability is paramount, with reclaimed barn wood siding and floors, steel-framed windows, and recycled aluminium roofs. The southfacing shed roof allows for photovoltaics. Each tiny house includes a full kitchen, a desk for dining or studying, a reading nook, ample storage and a queen loft bed. This project gave us the opportunity to produce a full set of construction documents, here.

Biophilic Shelter
Software Rhino 7, Lumion, Photoshop
Group Dylan H, Evelynn N, Cristian H, Ximena G
Competing in Cal Poly SLO’s annual Design Village, the objective is to design and build a shelter that is transportable by car and on foot, able to sustain for three days, and respond to the theme, biophilia.
The form is inspired by a group of roly polies. The kinetic action of opening and enclosing the pods biomimics a roly poly; open when in motion and closed when in protection. We express that life is movement and connection. Each structure is made of waterproof canvas, five plywood arches, a bi-folding plywood base, two-byfours, and metal hardware. The simple materials and modularity allow for ease of transportation and construction on-site, as well as eco-friendly disposal.

In the dead of winter, Oh, Silent Haste... illuminates the dark fog of Chicago. The art gallery, studio, and library are for the public to view the late Virgil Abloh’s work.
The program is focused on the idea of the trinity. Three spaces (art gallery, studio, and library) with three members (architect, artist, and poet). Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is the Architect mimicked in the design style, who Virgil Abloh, the artist, was fond of, as they were both highly influential in the Chicago arts. The poem I chose is Dylan Thomas’ “Do not go gentle into that good night,” a poem Abloh’s mother would read to him as a child. Virgil Abloh died at 41 after a silent battle of a rare cancer. I truly admire him as an artist and human being.

For the third edition of The Last Nuclear Bomb Memorial, an annual international architecture competition, organized by Buildner Architecture Competitions, Torii is a memorial that speaks to the cause of ending all nuclear weapons programs.
Torii lives as a symbol of the two bombings in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. It transitions people from the mundane to the sacred. It is welcome to all, even those not present. The concrete brings a sense of permanence, while the red offers sacredness and introspection. As you walk to the end, you enter a crater flooded with red spider lilies, which are commonly planted on grave sites to represent parting and renewal in traditional Japanese ceremonies.
