For over four years, Jake has been a vital part of CDL, contributing to the company’s ongoing projects and fostering a collaborative work environment. Since joining the team, he has remained in the same position, demonstrating a commitment to mastering their role and understanding the intricacies of the work involved. This stability has allowed for deep expertise to develop, benefiting both himself and the organization.
Recently, he has played a crucial role in significant projects, including HVAC installations at Washington School and an extensive installation project at the D&Z ammunition plant. These large-scale undertakings showcase not only his technical skills but also his ability to work effectively in a team. Being part of such impaction projects has allowed him to witness the tangible results of his hard work, which is a rewarding aspect of his job.
What truly stands out for Jake is the step-by-step involvement in each project. He finds immense satisfaction in seeing a project through from conception to completion, which fosters a strong sense of accomplishment. Additionally, the supportive team atmosphere at CDL enhances his experience, as collaboration with various divisions leads to innovative solutions and a more cohesive work environment.
Describing a typical day on the job proves challenging, as the nature of his work is anything but predictable. Each day presents new tasks and challenges, requiring flexibility and problem-solving skills. This dynamic environment keeps the work engaging and prevents monotony, allowing for continual growth and adaptation in his role.
Before joining CDL, he gained valuable experience in the heating and air field with a well-known local company and also held a heavy equipment position with the City of Pittsburg. These prior roles laid a strong foundation for his current work, enhancing his technical abilities and industry knowledge. Reflecting on his journey, he expresses gratitude for how working at CDL has enriched his experience and contributed to a more successful future.
In summary, the four-plus years spent at CDL have been transformative for this dedicated employee. His commitment to his role, involvement in significant projects, and appreciation for the team environment all contribute to a fulfilling career path, paving the way for continued success and professional growth.
The Washington School remodel is an ambitious project set to begin on April 1, 2024, and is expected to be completed by late March 2025. This undertaking aims to significantly enhance the school’s infrastructure, ensuring it meets the modern needs of students and staff alike. With a comprehensive approach to upgrading essential utilities, this remodel will
provide a more efficient and functional environment for the entire school community.
Central to the project is the extensive scope of work planned. The first phase involves the installation of all underground systems, including the sanitary sewer and grease waste lines. Following this, the focus will shift to installing vital drain, vent, and waterlines throughout the building. Additionally, a gas line will be installed to support heating and kitchen operations, ensuring that both comfort and functionality are prioritized in the remodel.
A crucial aspect of this project will be the installation of fixtures, along with the trimming out and testing of all systems to ensure they operate seamlessly. This meticulous attention to detail is essential, as it not only guarantees compliance with safety standards but also enhances the overall user experience within the school. Each element of the remodel is designed to integrate harmoniously, creating a cohesive and efficient infrastructure.
Leading this project is a talented team, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have such an awesome group of employees on board. Nick Kitch, our supervisor, will oversee operations, ensuring that all tasks are executed smoothly and on schedule. Supporting him are Justin Graham and Korey Delmont, both journeymen who bring a wealth of experience and skill to the job. Their expertise will be invaluable as they tackle the various plumbing and installation challenges that arise throughout the project.
Lastly, Michael Sheppard, our operator/apprentice, plays a vital role in this team dynamic. His eagerness to learn and contribute alongside seasoned professionals fosters a collaborative atmosphere that enhances productivity and teamwork. Together, this remarkable group is committed to transforming the Washington School, laying the groundwork for a modern learning environment that will benefit students and faculty for years to come.
For the past three years, Anthony has navigated a rewarding journey marked by growth and opportunity. Starting as a maintainer for the Automatic Braking System (ABS), he laid the groundwork for a successful career in the railroad industry. After a year in that role, he transitioned to the Maintenance of Signal and Roadway and Railway Network Architecture positions, expanding their skill set and taking on new responsibilities within the company.
In recent months, he has taken on significant projects beyond his typical duties. He traveled to Florida and Georgia to assist with storm damage cleanup, showcasing their dedication to both the company and the community. Additionally, he participated in a takeover project in Michigan, which required careful planning and teamwork. These experiences have not only contributed to the company’s success but have also deepened his commitment to CDL and the importance of collaboration in overcoming challenges.
The most cherished aspect of working at CDL for him is the strong sense of camaraderie among colleagues. He has expressed gratitude for their supportive supervisor and coworkers, who consistently take the time to offer assistance and guidance. Having previously worked in environments where help was hard to come by, he appreciate the collaborative culture at CDL, where everyone is willing to lend a hand. This environment fosters a sense of belonging and makes the daily challenges of the job more manageable.
A typical day for Anthony begins at 6 AM, focusing on crossing inspections and responding to trouble calls. They also provide support to the
Maintenance of Way team as needed. This structured schedule stands in stark contrast to his prior experiences in construction and welding, where unpredictability often ruled. The consistency of his work hours has significantly improved their personal life, allowing for better planning of appointments and commitments without the stress of varying work hours.
Before joining CDL, he spent three years at CalTrain, gaining valuable experience that paved the way for his current role. His journey began as a welder, where he worked for 11 years and steadily progressed through various construction roles. After his time at Altec Industries, a manufacturer of utility trucks, he found his calling in the railroad industry, inspired by his father’s career as a signal maintainer.
Working at CDL has had a profound impact on his life, providing stability and a sense of purpose. With a reliable paycheck and a structured schedule, he have been able to plan his life with confidence, unlike the unpredictability of his previous jobs. Being on call allows him to take his truck home, eliminating lengthy commutes and offering even more convenience. This journey at CDL not only reflects personal growth but also highlights the importance of community and support in the workplace.
