AUGUST MONTHLY2022 NEWSLETTER

If you get a positive home test, please confirm with a test from a clinic or doctor’s office as you will need to provide documentation if more time off is needed. We are doing this in hopes to encourage our employees to get tested when feeling ill, and to minimize exposure due to lack of testing.
As a reminder of our COVID-19 and quarantine policies. This policy applies to all CDL employees in office, remote, or in the field. If your supervisor requires you to get tested for COVID-19 please inform an HR Representative the day you get tested and CDL will pay for the cost of your test, this will be done through a reimbursement on your paycheck, but home tests are available in office upon request as well.
Based upon the most recent Crawford County and Federal CDC guidelines, a positive COVID test requires a minimum 5-day quarantine, regardless of symptoms. Once the 5-day quarantine is complete, if you are fever free for 24 hours and are asymptomatic you may return to work.

With the growth of our company, we are excited to announce the transition from our tagline ‘one company, many solutions’ to ‘group of companies.’ This tagline not only signifies the growth of CDL Electric, Inc. it also promotes the multi-faceted subsidiaries such as J&A Industries, Overhead Door, Sign Brothers, as well as CDL’s partnership with Serrmi Products. As we continue to acquire new businesses, they will fall under CDL Group of Companies in our marketing terminology. We will prepare the tagline launch and create a timeline to replace logos on buildings, vehicles, and other large format media. As far as print items such as forms, envelopes, business cards, and more we will be phasing those out as we run out of them. Our digital assets such as website, newsletter, email signatures, presentations, and social media will be launched in the near future. You can find new logos and email signature layouts here at this link. We are updating our branding to include colors and specific fonts to create consistency across the company. You can find our new updated style guide and new fonts at this link. If you have questions about the new tagline launch, please reach out to Kasey Gaddy by emailing her direct or

The sign division is made up of multiple parts, consisting of our commercial division, our vinyl room, and Sign Brothers. The commercial division handles all large sign jobs, such as billboards, building letters, and a lot of other aerial work. The vinyl room handles all of our printed materials and services some of our largest accounts with all of their sign needs (Crossland, Liberty, Kansas Crossing Casino, and Watco to name a few). Lastly, we operate Sign Brothers, who is our retail division that operates on Broadway Street here in Pittsburg. They specialize more in smaller, custom sign jobs, apparel, printing, and even have a neon shop in-house. Our commercial division is currently in the middle of a Subway rebrand, which is almost 100 stores across Kansas and Missouri. We also have the opportunity to LED retrofit over 100 Tractor Supply stores across Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. Our vinyl room is towards the end of the latest Liberty Utilities rebrand, which has been a very profitable project for us.
SIGN DIVISION SPOTLIGHT.
AUGUST 2022 04.
Sign Brothers just landed a large project for Pittsburg State, rebranding the Men’s Locker Room. All of our employees in each department are all great and all team players. We’d like to continue to applaud the efforts of all of our commercial sign installers, who constantly travel and work in the elements to grow our division. They sacrifice a lot and spend a lot of time away from their families, which does not go unnoticed among their peers. The employees at Sign Brothers are also doing a great job down at the Broadway shop continuing to grow that market. They represent CDL very well with local customers and also do a lot for CDL with printing and apparel needs. We would also like to congratulate Chris LaForte, who just won an award with the TriState Sign Association for his design on the Sign Brothers sign. He beat out a lot of other competitors to win that award. Chris does a lot of great work down at Sign Brothers with hand-painted and neon signage. Chad Johnston also just recently got elected to the Kansas Board, which is a division of the Tri-State Sign Association. This should open up some opportunities for us across the state which we may not be getting right now.

Studies conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health NIOSHA concluded there are insufficient evidence to recommend the use of back-belts to prevent back injuries.
Plan and prepare for the lift. Protect your feet and hands with sturdy shoes and work gloves. Test the load for weight and stability
Prior to lifting, determine the weight to the load by pushing on the object. If you determine the weight to be large, reduce the load by splitting it in half or more.
Do not try to lift objects beyond your capability. If you have to strain to lift or carry a load, then it is too heavy for you. If the weight of the load is beyond you capability, find someone to assist you with lifting the load or use a forklift, dolly or hand truck to move the load.
5
If required to turn while carrying the load, turn with feet and not with the trunk of the body. Do not on slippery or uneven surfaces while carrying a load.
To set down a load lower yourself at a controlled speed by bending you knees while maintaining a straight back.
AUGUST 202205. RECOMMENDED SAFE LIFTING PRACTICES 4213 867
9 Firmly grasp the object and begin slowly lifting it with your legs (not your back).
Before lifting a package, make sure the contents are secure and the weight is balanced so the contents will not shift when moved.
LIFTINGATSAFEWORK
Stand close to the load with your feet staggered and spread apart to about shoulder width when you go to pick up a package. While maintaining a straight back, squat by bending you knees. Do not twist your body while lifting at a controlled speed, Keep the objects center of gravity as close to your body as possible.
15 Take frequent breaks when lifting and carrying man loads do not overtire yourself.
10
Try to keep it centered hold the load between shoulder and knee hight and don’t overreach.
More than 1,000,000 back injuries occur in the work place each year. Approximately 800,000 of these injuries are to the lower back and 750,000 happen while lifting objects.

Do Back-Belts Help?
These studies also showed that even wearing the belt gives the wearer a false sense of security. Due to thinking that the belt will prevent an injury.

RAILROAD BRENDAN MALLO.MIKERELPH
AUGUST 2022 06.
Hey CDL. My name is Brendan Mallo and I’ve been a Signal Maintainer at CDL for a year and a half. I was born in Butte, Montana but raised in Ohio. I am currently located in Youngstown, OH on the Youngstown Southeastern Railroad. I also maintain another MBR property called the Camp Chase in Columbus Ohio.
Mike Relph has been promoted to Assistant Vice President of Technical Services. This role includes overseeing Telecom, HVAC Service and Plumbing. Mike started with the company in 2010 launching the telecom division, this division grew rapidly and in 5 years had 9-10 employees covering 8 unique services.
PROMOTION.
“I love that as long as I do my job correctly and efficiently, I can be my own boss”. I would consider the most difficult part of the job is traveling down to Columbus and being away from my newborn daughter. My favorite part of the job is working outside and having a different scenery every day. What are your hobbies outside of work? Watching football and spending time with my family Tell us about your family? I have been married for a month, and just had a beautiful baby girl named Mazelyn. She was born three months early, and spent a month in the NICU, but is doing great now! If you could have lunch with one famous person who would it be and why? Chuck Norris, because he is Chuck Norris. Favorite type of food? Pizza If you could give advice to someone interested in the railroad industry what would it be? Be prepared to work hard, but do it safely so you go home to your family at the end of each day.
Relph is certified as a Fiber Optics Technician and Tester and is recently certified in IMSA traffic signal work zones. His goal for the division he is now overseeing is to continue the steady growth of the company and maintain and build relationships with our customers.
Outside of work Relph enjoys spending time with his family. They spend time playing sports and making memories outside.
