Graphic Design brief ‘The Museum Of’ at UWE, Bristol.
The phenomena of memories triggered by senses is known as the ‘Proust Effect’, after Marcel Proust. The famous novel ‘In Search of Lost Time’, describes his own joyous sense memories.
The book is curated to progress from creative to scientific content, differentiated using stock. The research commenced from ‘The Proust Effect: The Senses as Doorways to Lost Memories’ by Cretien van Campen, with extracts featuring in the publication. Other content was sourced through conversation as well as submissions in response to posters. However, I do not own all content, but was only used for educational and curational purposes.
The physical book itself uses all senses (except smell), which features edible rice paper printing (pages 17-22 & 75-80) and a textured Vivelle cover to encourage these senses in a novel formatted publication. A separate component featuring sound modules link to pages, to experience the auditory memories described.
