For over 65 years, the Jacksons brand has been synonymous with quality. Since the company’s inception back in 1947, there has always been an over-arching commitment to exceptional quality in relation to the design and manufacture of our products. But in addition, we have also consistently strived to deliver an unrivalled standard of customer service. This is not just in terms of providing an efficient and seamless transition from enquiry through to installation, but is equally witnessed by the company’s intrinsic understanding of the changing needs of its customers and ability to respond with a regular programme of inspirational, efficacious product development.

At Jacksons, we make it our business to monitor the perimeter security landscape and to identify emerging trends which impact on our customers and their subsequent needs.

We take pride in being at the forefront of new technologies and regularly succeed in being first to market with a range of groundbreaking innovations. Our portfolio is expansive and spans top level government approved high security products through to residential physical security solutions.

Our heritage and in-house design and manufacturing expertise continue to attract a high volume of enquiries from customers seeking out a customised response to a perimeter fencing or access control problem. With this in mind, we enjoy excellent working relationships not just with installers and contractors, but also with the various specifiers associated with the preliminary stages of any site development. We are always keen to share an early involvement in a project to provide an informed insight into the overall physical site security requirements at planning stage. This helps to avoid mistakes which could not only threaten the overall security architecture in the long term, but which would also incur unnecessary additional costs for the client.

There is no better evidence for this than the Gate Safe campaign, which was set up by Jacksons in direct response to the tragic deaths of two children in automated gate accidents and which continues to champion the need for enhanced standards in automated gate safety. Jacksons CPD Programme Professional training the professionals For the last three years, Jacksons has been actively involved in the delivery of a Continuous Professional Development programme for architects. Jacksons is a member of the RIBA CPD Providers Network and since collaborating with this highly credible UK architectural trade body, has developed three RIBA approved training units.

We provide guidance on how to specify automated gates and barriers that will deliver the appropriate performance, durability and which will also comply with all the relevant standards and legislation. The CPD discusses the best use of various styles and configurations of gates to suit the applications for the customer as well as highlighting the risk associated with each type of gate systems.

Further training opportunities are planned for roll-out during 2012.

25 Year Guarantee - Quality that is guaranteed to last The entire Jacksons portfolio has been designed and manufactured with a view to delivering a lasting solution in response to any perimeter security and access control requirement.

Steel fencing and automation guarantee All Jacksons steel fencing and gates are covered by a 25-year Service Life guarantee against inherent defects such as design, manufacturing finish and fitness for purpose. If any problems occur during the lifetime of the guarantee we will replace the item free of charge (excludes locks, bearings, rollers and other parts subject to wear and tear).

Automated access products and systems, and electronic intruder detection and deterrent solutions are covered by a 25-month parts and labour guarantee, subject to a service contract being taken out in the second year. Extended maintenance and repair contracts are also available.

Jakcure guarantee Jacksons timber products undergo a unique Jakcure treatment process that allows preservative to penetrate deep into the heart of the timber. We are so confident in our Jakcure process that we back it with a 25-year guarantee against all wood-boring pests and all forms of wet and dry rot.

Clearly taking the appropriate steps to ensure the Jakcure process is thoroughly effective requires additional time and money.

But remember, any extra costs levied to cover this thorough and effective preservation process actually more than pay for themselves in the long run. This is because there is a requirement to pay just once - rather than pay for replacement timber (potentially at least five times over since inferior treated wood may last as little as 3-4 years) over the 25-year period. Plus, if you calculated the additional investment associated with repeat labour to install the replacement timber, paying extra for a high quality, long lasting product makes economic sense.

Opting to purchase a lasting product also represents a more sustainable approach to resolving any perimeter security / access control issues. Timber that needs replacing after five years will not only place undue pressure on a finite resource – with five times as much timber being used over a 25-year period, it will also increase the amount of concrete waste product in landfill sites by five times (not to mention the fuel emissions associated with the transfer of materials).

Customised Solutions Jacksons offers a broad portfolio of perimeter security and access control products designed to meet a variety of challenges, but we appreciate that sometimes, a customised approach is the only viable route to resolving the needs of a difficult project.

The flexibility and experience of our CAD design team and manufacturing facility allows us to design and produce ‘specials’ almost as quickly as standard items. We can manage a project from the consultation process through to final installation – maintaining a close working relationship with the client every step of the journey towards completion.

Because all of our design and manufacturing is conducted in-house, we are able to offer exclusive access to our experienced team of designers and engineers to develop a truly bespoke response to even the most complex problems. Our philosophy is that nothing is impossible and we are renowned for our dogged determination to work through the issues to identify a workable solution, sometimes stretching the boundaries of conventional engineering wisdom!

8 Gate Safe Setting the standard for gate automation In 2010, two young children were tragically killed in separate automated gate related accidents. Prior to this, in the same year two further automated gate incidents were brought to the public’s attention, although thankfully neither resulted in a fatality.

Jacksons Fencing, as a responsible designer, manufacturer and installer of automated gates took the decision to launch a national campaign to tackle the serious issue of automated gate safety. In September 2010, the company hosted the inaugural Gate Safe Summit at the Institute of Directors in London. The event represented the first time representatives from a broad cross section of companies and generic trade and safety organisations had come together to discuss their individual roles in calling for the introduction of enhanced clarity and improved understanding of the guidelines relating to the important matter of automated gate safety.

Delegates attending the Summit (which included Institution of Occupational Safety & Health, British Standards Institution and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), all agreed the need to initiate a unique 3600 awareness / education programme which targets EVERYONE (from the specifier, manufacturer, constructor and installer) involved in the automated gate installation process.

The Gate Safe Summit was heralded as a great success and generated widespread media coverage (including BBC Radio 4’s Today programme). Following the Summit meeting, Gate Safe took a petition to Downing Street urging the Prime Minister to lend his support and guidance to the campaign and as a result attracted the attention of the Health & Safety Executive, who praised Gate Safe for its pioneering approach to improving standards.

Since then, Gate Safe has continued to work tirelessly to improve awareness of the critical issues affecting the safety of an automated gate and Jacksons Fencing has invested heavily in the campaign. The Gate Safe web site provides up to date information and guidance on the subject of gate automation, together with a series of practical checklists which provide easy to follow advice on what constitutes a safe automatic gate.

Gate Safe is also working closely with the DHF (Door & Hardware Federation) to develop a revised set of technical guidelines.

Gate Safe is fast becoming the recognised authority on automated gate safety and Jacksons has recently rolled out a Gate Safe CPD for architects involved in specifying an automatic gate, with a longer term intention to develop a dedicated Gate Safe training course for professionals looking to demonstrate compliance with, and a sound understanding of, current automatic gate safety requirements.

Tubular Systems Fencing System for Chain link and Welded Mesh Unlike generic systems, Jacksons Tubular Systems for Chain Link and Welded Mesh fencing feature a top rail for added security and strength. They are made entirely from steel, hot-dip galvanised to BS EN 1461 as standard or galvanised and powder coated to BS EN 13438 in one of our standard colours at extra cost - proving we don't believe in taking short cuts, even in a budget fencing system.

Our Tubular System is suitable for both Welded Mesh and Chain Link. For extra security extensions can be fitted on to the posts with the top rail going through them to anchor in place.

The standard chain link gates are made for 980mm opening and are 50mm shorter than the fence height. They are right or left handed and clad with either galvanised or galvanised and green coated chain link.

The framing is made from 42mm diameter galvanised tube.

Gates and Access Control A solid line of physical defence will be rendered useless if the gate system selected does not complement the overall fencing solution. Jacksons design and manufacture a wide range of gates in steel, timber or a combination of both to safe guard the continued security of any installation. Regardless of the type of gate, the material used, or whether or not the gate represents a customised response to a problem, all Jacksons gates are galvanised to BS EN 1461 as standard or Jakcured and covered by our 25-year guarantee.

As well as designing and manufacturing gates – both manual and automated - we are able to provide access to our team of expert installers to ensure a professional and legally compliant installation.

The Jacksons access control systems work in conjunction with the operation of our automated products and allow enhanced control over the flow of traffic – either on foot or vehicular – at elected points within the site.

Sliding gates are ideal for applications where there is insufficient room for swing gates to open into and where higher security is required. Even where the ground is not level, the cantilever sliding gates run smoothly on nylon wheels, making them surprisingly quiet.

An alternative to sliding gates is tracked sliders. The advantage of these is that they can span larger opening widths and have a lower profile from the ground, with the gate running along a track set in the ground.

Available in a range of standard widths to span up to 24m and in heights to 3m.

44 Automatic Gate Operators Underground Operator Hydraulic Ram Operator Situated at ground level by each gatepost, Underground Operators are ideal for to gates up to a maximum of 4m wide per leaf, suitable for residential and commercial applications. When maintenance is necessary the operator can simply be removed from the foundation box without removing the gate leaf.

Mounted on the gate for applications which demand high performance, and very heavy duty operation for very weighty gates, Jacksons can offer a custom built system to suit. Each system is built to suit individual site requirements.

The operator is concealed inside of the gate stile - ideally suited to steel vertical bar gates up to 2.5m wide per leaf for light usage applications.

Our access control systems provide the means to control the operation of our automated products, for example to send a signal to open or close an automated gate or raise or lower a traffic barrier. In addition we also offer a range of additional safety devices that will allow you to augment standard features or tailor your automation and access control to suit a specific application.

Photocells Our safety photocells have an infrared beam which if broken, prevents the gate from closing whilst a vehicle or other obstruction is present.

Sports, Recreation and Play Fencing Whether in a domestic, school, community or sports facility setting, the priorities for any play related fencing product are safety and the ability to successfully contain the activity to a designated area. Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (P.I.D.S) Advanced fence mounted electronic detection system Jaktronic Fence Sensor Systems (Active Fence Sensor) are multifunctional Electronic Perimeter Security Systems. Employing state of the art vibration sensors and magnetic detectors installed on the fence perimeter, the system monitors and displays intrusion attempts with high degrees of accuracy and low false alarm rates. Intrusion attempts are displayed on a computer monitor in the Control Center. The systems vibration sensors are based on the Time Domain Reflectometer principle (TDR), which displays attempts at penetrating the fence perimeter with an accuracy of Âą10 meters.

Unlike generic systems, Jacksons Tubular Systems for Chain Link and Welded Mesh fencing feature a top rail for added security and strength. They are made entirely from steel, hot-dip galvanised to BS EN 1461 as standard or galvanised and powder coated to BS EN 13438 in one of our standard colours at extra cost - proving we don't believe in taking short cuts, even in a budget fencing system.

Tubular systems can usually be delivered within 10 working days of ordering.

Our Tubular System is suitable for both Welded Mesh and Chain Link. For extra security extensions can be fitted on to the posts, with the top rail going through them to anchor in place.

The standard chain link gates are made for 980mm opening and are 50mm shorter than the fence height. They are right or left handed and clad with either galvanised or galvanised and green coated chain link.

The framing is made from 42mm diameter galvanised tube.

Our teams are CSCS certified and CRB cleared to carry out work around schools, care homes and other institutions for the vulnerable and less able, which are the subject of vetting and approval by the Independent Safeguarding Authority.
