The Synesthetic Studio aims to develope final products that activate certain senses to create a cohesive response to a clients any feeling/sense-related desire.

I’ve left 10” of plenum space between the [C1] ceiling elements and the bottom of the floor above. This is to leave room for electrical wires and possible plumbing pipes.

Leaving the beams partially exposed while cladding them with [WW] wood panels is important to keep the rustic look of the space, while also having a support to cast the [C1] concrete board ceiling

S1 - ADJUSTABLE WING NUT Each wingnut must be fabricated with the dimensions below.

They must be able to screw onto each screw bolt [C2] to allow the shelving to look as if it’s floating.

The purpose of each wingnut is to hold and fasten each piece of wood shelving into it’s desired location within the retail spaces.

The wingnut and its’ placement allows for flexibility of shelving. Different height options are given to the user by way of a simple twist, and a simple movement.

SIZING : For all brass bolts, their should be 20 of each length provided for the retail areas for flexiblity / range of shelving options: 12’0”, 10,0”, 8’0”, and 6’0”.

Each must be fabricated with 2” in diameter, made to fit with the custom [S1] wingnut.

After fabrication and in order to assure that each piece fits into the ceiling board, do a test screw for each mounting hole.

S2 SIZE / SUPPLY SPECS

The [C2] screw bolts must be glued with into each hole of the [C1] ceiling board. Because the ceiling board is made out of concrete board, these bolts can be fastened into the board while the concrete board is drying.

During this process, make any adjustments to assure that the bolts are evenly fastened in the correct angles.

The concrete board ceiling element must be sized for each retail space.

The designer has these dimensions, and will tell you each size according to each space.

They must be fastened on top of the beams with 6” of space between the top of the ceiling board and the bottom of the floor above.

This is to leave space between floor and ceiling for electrical fixtures and plumbing pipes.

S3 SIZE / SUPPLY SPECS Each wood shelving piece must be cut to fit along the 6” grid of the ceiling board. This is so that the shelving can fit while fastened into the ceiling.

Holes cut into the shelving must be 2” in diameter so that the screw bolts can fit into the shelving. The screw bolt fitting should be loose enough to fit into the hole, but tight enough to where it needs to be slightly screwed in.

UPHOLSTERY STUDIO

POTTERY STUDIO Collab Room Located above the woodshop, between pottery/upholstery, and below the scent/music studio, this meeting room is centrally located. This is to allow ease of collaboration between different disciplines.

Within this room, the hoist system vertically connects all the studios, and can be accessed through a brass-mullioned casement window. The dumwaiter employs a tactile response to transporting materials like: completed pots, ceramic tiles, fabric/wood samples, candles, ect. This system gives control to workers and supports different workstyles.

During presentations to clients, workers can request samples to be sent up by using a voice intercom.

The Art of Kintsugi

Section Perspective 1A Visualizing the “stake” in the community as a screw/bolt/rivet is my idea of metaphorical interior architecture and design. After realizing that this tool rental could be utilized by low-income folks, college students in need, and anyone in the community seeking to learn more about tools, I aimed to create a cohesive design that represents the importance of tools.

The building “breaking up” and light pouring in was inspired by kintsugi, a japanese repair method where one pours liquid gold/ metal onto a broken piece of pottery in hopes to mend it.

The feeling of brokeness and the action of something breaking can be repaired with something that makes it more beautiful than it used to be. Tools are important, and brokeness only give them more meaning.

Furniture Restoration Antique Kitchen Cabinet/Chest RESTORATION PROCESS This was a great, unique find for me. This piece was made by a professional wood-worker and not a manufacturer, and certain (amateurish) aspects about the piece gave that away.

Because of this, I took great care in preserving the existing hardware as well as the wood finish. After detail sanding the piece and cleaning the hardware, I stained the wood with a natural, honey-colored protective wax.

Furniture Restoration Vintage Coffee Table w/ Marble RESTORATION PROCESS The coffee table was a mess, with peeling veneer and a very offputting structure, complimented by chicken wire.

In order to bring it back to our modern era, I carefully restored the veneer, and had to bondo and paint over the damages.

Expunging the chicken wire lifts made it look and act more grounded as a coffee table.

Restoring this piece was a timid process especially when dealing with fragile veneer. When I finally crowned it with the existing dolce vitta marble, it felt rich, exquisite, and functional

Mid-Century Modern Dresser RESTORATION PROCESS This dresser had fragile book-matched veneer all over. Saving it and restoring the wood grain perfectly was extremly difficult, but it ended up paying off significantly.

Keeping some of the vintage accents alive while preserving the wood grain was the goal.

This old cabinet had at least 3 layers of paint, one that was lead. I removed all paint with safety precautions, sanded down entire cabinet, and re-painted the body.

This dresser was made of cheap plywood and the grain turned out to be fake.

Because of this, I felt more comfortable expirementing with a different look/color scheme than what I’ve done before.

I did discover a beautiful textured pine on the table-top, so I decided to stain it to sustain the wood’s natural beauty.

GENERAL NOTES 1.1 Execution The execution of all work shall be in strict accordance with these specifications and manufacturer's written specificatinos or Material's Institute Standards. 1.10 Protecting Installed Construction Contractor shall protect all installed construction. If products or materials come with a protective coating, contractor shall maintain protective coating until constructino is complete. Contactor shall replace any items that become defective or damaged.

613 - Collab Flex Space (A-B)

This is a large and open space that has solely moveable white boards and furniture and nothing structural that is permanent besides columns. On just about every wall, there are wall-mounted pin-up boards that can fold down into large work-tables to in order to support different work styles.

The mother's room has a countertop, sink, and refridgerated drawers for the mother's use. It also includes a napping bed for a baby and a custom designed breat-feeding chair, upholstered for comfort and has beveled-in arms to lay a baby in. Acoustically sound walls.

The meeting room has expansive sliding doors covering 2 out of 3 walls. All moveable furniture.

616 - Wellness Room

The wellness room has a countertop, sink, and mini-fridge in order to support the different ways that people express self-care. Acoustically sound walls.

The inclusive design lab is meant as a recreation area with countertop bar. It includes a moveable pool table and wall-mounted ping-pong table that can be placed on the ground with ease. Circulation around these tables is 4'0", this room is meant to serve different functions for different people.

SPECIAL NOTES Each workspace has 30 sq ft of personal space for each worker. There are no structural blocking elements under the desks, but there are moveable filing drawers with upholstered top. Entire room is closed and acoustically sound to decrease distractions and interruptions.

The work cafe's kitchen has 2 sinks, one with under-counter clearance. This is so multiple people can function within the kitchen without running into each other. Includes: microwave, fridge, bar, coffee nook. The dine-in seating is all moveable and easy to circulate around.

The visitor work stations are for visitors who need a temporary desk, or for current workers to use for a queit eating and doing work spot.
