Spring 2025
choreographing urban flow is the current, ongoing project of a third year spring studio. The project is set on San Pablo Ave by the Fox Theater in Oakland. The studio brings focus to the circulation, materiality, structure, and fenestration of a building through studying mat buildings and daylight factories. The building design shown here choreographes flow from the residential edge of the site to the busy San Pablo Ave with bold, sculptural walls that organically cut through an orthogonal, structural grid. The interlude research project of a local, repurposed daylight factory is also shown on the following page. The old ink factory, now winery, in West Berkeley’s use of concrete trusses and clerestory windows was studied to help develop the structural system of this studio’s main project.

platform. building. is the final project of a third year fall studio on the fundamentals of architectural design. The project is set on the Faculty Glade, a recreational grass hill area on the UC Berkeley campus. The initial design started with three platforms, each serving a significant activity or vista of the site. A grid system based off of the middle platform was then imposed onto the other two platforms to organize the structure and programming of new academic buildings.

Fall 2024 - Spring 2025
scenic design & hand drafting consists of work from two classes taught by set and production designer, Arnel Sancianco. The set design is for “Mousetrap”, an Agatha Christie play. The idea to restyle this play’s set was first inspired by retro futuristic illustrations from the 1950s. The eerie perfection of the living spaces depicted in these illustrations complemented the deception produced by the characters in this story. At first glance, this mid-century living room is warm and cozy but small details like the hidden door in the stone wall or the snow fallen on the Joshua trees, allow the murder mystery to play out. The drafting plates are part of the technical skills course focused on hand drafting orthographic projections, sections, detail drawings, plans, models, and renderings.

sankofa garden is the cumulative project of a Community Design Process course. Organized as a non-profit firm, other UC Berkeley students and I worked with local high school students, construction students from Laney College, and community residents on renovating the Sankofa Garden adjacent to the California Hotel in Oakland (affordable housing for the elderly). We designed an accessible healing garden that supports the community through education, horticulture, art, and nutrition. This permanent community space fosters neighborhood attachment and promote involvement among the West Oakland community. The work featured here focuses on the outdoor kitchenette space.
