Incredible — that’s 75 years of teaching students about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship through the generosity of thousands of volunteers. Whether you volunteered in a classroom, were a recipient of the program, coordinated volunteers, or allowed JA into your classroom, we thank you for your support.

This year, we far surpassed our goal of reaching 515,000 students, as we delivered our programs to a record 538,984 students!

As you will see on page 12, alumni have reconnected with JA to share their stories of success, many of whom now volunteer for the organization. These former recipients of our programs are excited to see digital additions to the JA curriculum, such as online Learning Management Systems and mobile apps. These innovations were introduced last year with the re-imagination of the JA Company Program and will expand to JA Global Marketplace and JA Personal Finance this school year.

We also launched our year-long Take Your Work to Kids campaign this year, which you may have seen on TV, heard on the radio,

read in the newspaper, or noticed on billboards and CTA platforms! This marketing campaign was made possible through the generosity and creativity of Leo Burnett Worldwide and Starcom USA. We are proud that our financial status continues to be strong while achieving a record low cost-per-student of only $12.50. Additionally, we are humbled to say that as of August 2015, over 50 donors have pledged a collective $6 million to our endowment for our special 75th Anniversary Campaign. These gifts will ensure that JA programs taught by retirees, high school students, and college students can continue to make an impact for decades to come.

The celebration of our success during this anniversary year will culminate on October 7, 2015 for our 75th Anniversary Dinner (more information on page 36). It will be a fantastic evening showcasing everything that is so great about JA and inducting our dear friend, David Speer, into the Chicago Business Hall of Fame. 75 YearS of Taking Work to Kids JA was chartered on April 26, 1940, making 2015 our 75th anniversary.

We celebrated the milestone by bringing JA programs to 76 Chicago Public Schools during the week of April 26, 2015, reaching 38,652 students with the help of 1,670 volunteers — all in one week!

The week kicked off with a press conference at West Park Academy of Fine Arts. Speakers included Dr. Joyce Booker-Thomas, Principal of West Park Academy, Sandy Daffé, President of Junior Achievement of Chicago, JA Board Member Jeff Malehorn, President and CEO of World Business Chicago, David Vitale, who served as President of Chicago Board of Education, and our wonderful student speaker, 5th grader Hannah Surratt!

4th Annual High School Competition On April 17, 2015, volunteers representing 15 different companies provided their expertise at the JA You’re Hired! Workplace Skills Challenge. The competition gave students the opportunity to practice professional development skills through competitive workshops in areas such as business etiquette, product development, interviewing skills, and ethical decision making.

In the JA Titan Competition, students competed in a virtual market simulation, making tough business decisions. Groups from York High School in Elmhurst took first and second place and Lyons Township High School in LaGrange took third place.

The JA Company Program Competition judged the skills and business plans of four schools’ JA Company Program businesses.

Additionally, YOUnique Frames from Manteno High School in Manteno won awards at this event and went on to win second place at the national JA competition (pictured right).

Scholarships Each year, JA gives thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards to exceptional students who have participated in JA programs. This year, we awarded $190,500 in

scholarships and awards to 26 outstanding high school students. The top award, the Colonel Henry Crown Scholarship, was doubled this year due to the generosity of the Crown family, and provided the students with $40,000 over the course of four years at an accredited college, and includes a paid summer internship at a Henry Crown affiliated company.

Encompass Championship In 2015 Junior Achievement of Chicago was again named one of four charity partners for The Encompass Championship This prestigious Champions Tour tournament was played the week of July 6, 2015 at North Shore Country Club in Glenview. The tournament featured a special Pro-Am format during the first two rounds of competition on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11 pairing Champions Tour professionals with celebrities and amateurs. Sunday’s final round saw Champions Tour professionals competing for the individual title and Jerry Smith was named the champion.

Junior Achievement of Chicago was founded in 1940 and provides financial education programs at no cost to schools and students in the Chicago area. JA is a not-for-profit tax-exempt corporation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is a publicly supported organization as defined by Sections 170(b) (1) (A) (vi) and 509 (a) (1) of the code. Contributions to Junior Achievement of Chicago are deductible for federal income tax purposes, limited to the excess of any money contributed by the donor over the value of the goods or services received. Junior Achievement of Chicago’s total net assets were $14,499,056 for the year ending June 30, 2015.

The dinner will feature acknowledgments of all former Chicago Business Hall of Fame inductees, and it will celebrate the life and legacy of David B. Speer, who served as Chairman and CEO of ITW and Vice Chairman of JA of Chicago.

David’s story of success and his commitment to Chicago’s philanthropic community will be told by Junior Achievement students from the ITW David Speer Academy, which was launched as part of the Noble Network of Charter Schools in August of 2014. The celebration of David’s life will culminate with the students providing a posthumous induction of David into the Chicago Business Hall of Fame.
