The particular brand chosen by Group 6 is a Game company under the name of “Cosmopoint Studios.”

In typical fashion of a company specializing in the field of video games in regards to the approach in brand design, we intentionally chose a minimalist, yet inspired logo with generic fonts to go along with the theme.

As a game company, all kinds of game genres can be expected under its belt. With this in mind, we settled with simple and readable fonts to conform with as many designs as possible, given that the branding will be attached to advertisements of video games which carry with them a wide variety of visual tones and subjects.

The goal of the branding is to create a distinct and recognizable motif that persists even when put into advertisements that already contain their own visual elements that work towards catching the attention of its audience.

When we think about video games and the large entities behind many such influential titles, companies like Activision, Blizzard or Ubisoft come into mind. They all have unique branding that is immediately recognizable when put into box art or advertisement posters.

The top priority of every brand logo is always to achieve a design to which an entity can attach its image and reputation. Depending on the company or studio’s track record, seeing just the logo can make or break the immediate reception of a product being presented by said entity.

In our search for logo inspirations, we look back at the earliest companies that made a breakthrough in the video game industry. One of which is Playstation, this deliberate logo inspiration is to evoke a similar sense of prestige whenever our logo is seen alongside the product.

Our main takeaway from the Playstation logo is its approach to a 3D feel on a 2D plane, as well as its colorful, stylish, and yet minimalistic iconography. The logo is effective in both color and B&W due to its distinct silhouette that identifies the branding right away.

Our new approach for a generic font and more minimalist logo conforms to the current trend of logo branding across several industries due to its accessibility and ease of visuals for a broad audience.

We also found this new design to conform much better with multiple, and contrasting themes. When put into practice, it allows the branding to keep its visual presence in part of the product without becoming a visual obstruction that takes away from the appeal of the individual product.

The 3D effect would have been a particularly special aspect because it harkens back to early video game consoles and how 3D graphics were quite recent at the time.

On initial concepts of the logo and overall branding, the attempt was to go for a “sporty” look that leaned much more heavily towards the retro gaming theme and a more innocent and playful font style to go alongside it.

As time went on, more ideas naturally came and the practicality of this design concept started to fail. The clean and cursive style necessarily doesn’t fit the intended feel when it comes to branding a game company.

Upon first glance of the Cosmopoint Studios logo, especially from left to right, there’s a clear rhythm of how the colors are placed to convey the palette without being too chaotic. The viewer can easily tell how the colors shift from blue to yellow, and red to green through somewhat repeating shapes and patterns.

Speaking of patterns, we’d like to highlight the motif of a circuit board pattern in the middle of the logo which loosely relates to the sort of technology that the typical game company uses during development.

Overall, the logo wears its inspiration on its sleeve as the well-balanced presence of straight and curved lines are the same kind found on the Playstation logo. Both portray a sense of playfulness and possibilities through creativity which are themes that we’d like to target in order to properly represent a game company’s mission.

Poster 1 - Character Sketches

For the final output of this project, we intend to create two sample posters/box art depicting two video game genres: Horror & Racing. In this sketch, our concept artist explores a variety of characters to be used in the Horror half of the output.

Designs are primarily based off of characters in Animal Crossing (Nintendo Series). The intent is to juxtapose the horror theme with cutesy characters which happens to be a recent trope for select indie games.

Poster 1 - Poster Sketches

The first sketch for the horror poster was a simple design, we’ve seen in many horror games before. We wanted to try something like it, but it felt to cliché and what other games would normally do in a horror game.

The Second and Final poster design was more cute and cozy, yet we still brought out the horror in a mysterious way. Added the name design as well to blend in like clouds

Poster 2 - Modeling the Buggy

Depicted are work-in-progress screenshots of the vehicle to be rendered in the Racing Game’s poster/box art.

Assets for this half of the final output are made via Blender.
