Dean's Message

The2022-2023academicyearwasoneofgreatsuccessesand achievementsfortheJ WhitneyBuntingCollegeofBusiness&Technology (CoBT),ourstudents,faculty,staff,andsupporters.Theaccomplishments detailedhereinourannualreportreflectacommitmentfromcountless scholars,staff,andpractitionerswhomakeadifferenceeachdaytoensure studentsuccess Fromprofessionaldevelopmentworkshopsand undergraduateresearchmentoringtomentorshipatcompetitionsand modelingthewayascitizenleaders,ourcolleaguesandfriendswant nothingmorethantoprepareourstudentstoexcelinsideandoutsideofthe classroom.Asyouwillread,thishasbeenabanneryearofinnovationand growth Withnow70facultyandstaffintheCoBT,twonewdegreeprograms withtremendousgrowthintheirfirstyear,andseveralnewpathwaysfor studentstostudyinourgraduateprograms,thecollegeisonatrajectoryto continueasaleaderinbusinessandtechnologyeducationinthepublic liberalarts.

ANewInitiativewithintheAcademicInnovationStrategicDirection

Thefacultyapprovedtheinclusionofanewinitiativeunderstrategicdirection1(focusonacademicinnovation); the fourth initiative is to focus our efforts on growing and sustaining graduate programs The new initiative is describedhere:

Withtheimpendingdemographicshiftsandatightlabormarket,theCoBTischallengedtoaddressdeclining graduateenrollmentsandtofocusresources,efforts,andprioritiesforgrowthandinnovation Workinmid-2022 to restructure the CoBTs Graduate Programs office from a centralized to a decentralized model led to further facultyengagement(asprogramcoordinators),redefiningsomestaffpositionstoprovidesupporttograduate recruitmentandadvising,andtheadditionofadedicatedgraduaterecruiter Theresourcesgeneratedfromthe CoBT Graduate Programs are significant not only for the university, given differentiated allocation in the state fundingmodel,butalsothepremiumtuitionintwoofthefourexistingprogramsthatsupportCoBToperations and strategic initiatives While the following actions are intended to reverse a decline in program enrollments, other actions may be determined and implemented for all or some of the programs as part of continuous reviewandimprovement
