IYNA Introduction to Neuroscience Summer Course July 1 - August 5, 2022 Course Description: The IYNA Introduction to Neuroscience Summer Course is an introductory course in neuroscience. Through this detailed course spanning four weeks of content and review, students will be allowed to traverse across the fascinating world of neuroscience as they interact with graduate and post-graduate neuroscience students from around the world, as well as through communicating closely with skilled students that have completed postsecondary neuroscience coursework. By the end of this course, students will be able to gain a fundamental understanding of basic neuroscience topics. Course Features: The IYNA Introduction to Neuroscience Summer Course curriculum was inspired by the introductory Neuroscience textbook, “Neuroscience: Exploring the Brain ” (Bear, Connors, and Parsidio). Our course will include the following features to promote critical engagement with and understanding of key neuroscience topics: 1. A series of lectures on fundamental neuroscience topics that will be given by graduate and post-graduate students. 2. Biweekly recitation sections by undergraduate and graduate TAs to reinforce and elaborate upon concepts discussed in lecture. 3. A capstone project in which students will present a poster on a neuroscience paper of their choice (with guidance from TAs). 4. Access to TA Office Hours in which students will have the opportunity to ask TAs any relevant neuroscience questions and discuss course content. Key Course Policies: 1. Students must abide by all technology use policies, including, but not limited to, refraining from accessing/using inappropriate features on Zoom to disrupt lectures or discussion sections. 2. Students must refrain from harassing, bullying, or otherwise creating a negative learning environment for any student in the course. 3. Students are required to have on their cameras during lectures, recitation sections, and office hours. Exemptions to these policies may be granted at the discretion of the instructional team. Exemptions must be discussed in advance. 4. Students must participate and engage with all content, TAs, and peers in TA sessions. Failure to abide by the policies listed above and/or the policies listed in the parental consent form sent to a student(s) email will result in automatic removal from the IYNA Introduction to Neuroscience
