Sinking yacht sparks Murderer receives 24 Solent emergency 2
years after plea change Jonathan Stasiuk, aged 60, of Pier Street Ventnor, has been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison for the murder of former Island councillor Gerard White, known to many as Gerry, of Talbot Road, Sandown. During the trial Stasiuk made a late change of plea, to guilty. During the afternoon of Monday, May 27, Stasiuk murdered the popular 73-yearold pub landlord in the Lake Community Garden near Scotchells Brook Lane. A chef by trade he had previously worked in Mr White’s pubs. At the time of the murder they were both directors of the Garden Project, but had fallen out over a number of issues, including money and where rubbish was being stored. Stasiuk initially tried
to murder Mr White using a chainsaw and slashing at his leg, but when it ran out of petrol he then strangled and smothered him. He dialled 999 confessing to the killing. After officers attended, Stasiuk was arrested on suspicion of murder and they
