Carry on
chaos!
‘People will die’ says Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox Controversial work to convert St Mary’s Roundabout, Newport, into a trafficlight controlled junction, starting on Monday, is set to cause chaos for the next 15 months. Last minute attempts to get the IW Council Conservatives to delay the work failed at a stormy meeting on Wednesday. Cowes Councillor Lora Peacey-Wilcox predicted ‘total chaos’, with councillors queuing up to say that
Coppins Bridge is the real problem, and work should start there first. Most Conservatives defended the plans, but one voted against amid claims from opposition councillors that some Torys didn’t turn up because they weren’t prepared to support the position.

Hit and run driver given just a 22-week prison sentence A 31-year-old driver who fled the scene of a hit-and-run car smash that left an Island mother in a coma, has received just a 22-week prison sentence. Benjamin Entwhistle drove into young mum Becky Wall on Briddlesford Road in June, leaving her severely injured. Originally from Lake, Entwhistle was arrested on the mainland a fortnight after the horrific crash, following a nationwide search, Isle of Wight Magistrates heard.
Entwhistle, already in jail for other offences, pleaded guilty to eight offences that took place between June 24 and 27, including three counts of driving a BMW 330 while disqualified, three of driving without insurance, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident. He also received a five-year driving ban and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £115 surcharge.
