EDITOR’S LETTER Welcome to our Volume Three Edition of iWed Magazine.

I couldn’t be more thrilled to have made it to this point, iWed Magazine has officially made it in stores!

Please take your time enjoying the inspirational design of iWed magazine. Within this edition, you will notice every detailed image tells a love story.

The theme for this edition consist of daydreaming, the wilderness, and bohemian style. Every image is captured with the natural sunlight to enhance the beauty of creativity.

We selectively choose photography that is unique and timeless. Each page will inspire ones ideas for their wedding day. True, genuine, and down to earth people write iWed’s content, these writers live and breathe weddings.

Working with wedding gown designers, it’s always exciting. I am honored to feature new collections of gowns in our fashion spread. Working with jewelry designers, we hand pick each piece to complement the gown. Sometimes we get carried away with glittery, shiny statement pieces!

“OM” BEFORE THE BIG DAY Planning a wedding is hard enough without all of the stress. How do you get rid of all that stress? It surely won’t go away on its own, and we want to be happy and stress-free for our big day. Here are some tips to help ease away the worries for your wedding.

Meditate - Meditating can calm the stressed-out-bride easily. Just take a few minutes out of the day, or night, and take in a few, deep breaths.

This can clear your head of worries, slow your heart rate, and relax your muscles; leaving nothing but peaceful thoughts in your beautiful mind.

Ask For Help - You can’t handle everything yourself. As spectacular as you are, don’t be afraid to ask someone for help. Call some close friends or family members to help you run errands, fold napkins, and tie ribbons onto favors. They’ll probably jump at the opportunity to help the bride with her big day!

Exercise - If you’re not already hitting the trails for morning runs, stress is a good reason to start. Exercise has positive emotional and physical effects. So take a walk, go for a run, or dance around the living room in your pajamas! Any physical movement is healthy for your body, mind and soul.

DO’S & DONT’S Do Yoga. It is a great way to exercise and meditate at the same time! If you’ve never tried yoga before, go for the beginner sessions.

FEET IN THE SAND These days, beach weddings are becoming tremendously popular. The warm sand under our feet and sound of waves crashing in the background make beaches naturally romantic.

The shoreline provides a muted backdrop for your ceremony or reception that can be used for nearly any color scheme or theme. Add an eclectic collection of lanterns, rugs, and trinkets to create a bohemian feel. Trade in rows of folding chairs for vibrant blankets and pillows for your guests.

It’s hard to find a better place to celebrate with friends and family than in this nature-filled setting.

DO’S & DONT’S Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray if you are having an outdoor wedding; consider providing some for your guests as well.

PIECE OF CAKE Finding the right bakery or cake designer to create your perfect wedding cake can be challenging. The iWed team has a few tips that could save you time and stress.

First, do your research. Bakeries generally do not offer the level of customization as a cake designer, which normally translates to a lower price point. However, cake designers often specialize in certain finishes such as gold dusting or shaped cakes. Viewing portfolios of previous work will provide inspiration and insight to the designer’s decorating styles. Knowing the types of cakes you prefer will help narrow your selection and help you find the perfect vendor.

Second, with so much of your budget allocated to the cake be sure to set up a time to select your cake flavors and icing. Taste testing is one of the best parts of preparing for your wedding; so don’t forget to invite your groom! The possibilities are endless, and there are some truly unique options offered. You can create layers, mixing different flavors in each slice or customize each tier differently giving your guests a few options.

Third, think about your reception venue when selecting the finishes. Some icings, such as cream cheese, whipped topping and Swiss or French butter-cream, require refrigeration and do not hold up well in heat above 72 degrees. One possible solution is to use your desired topping as a filling and decorate with a more resilient icing or fondant. If your heart is set hold your reception in a climate controlled setting.

Remembering these tips will allow you to relax and enjoy the sweet moments of your wedding!

GOLDEN FIELDS Picture your wedding on the hills at sunset, surrounded by sun kissed fields that go on for miles and miles. With the blue sky shining right above your heads, and the birds singing, life couldn’t be better. How do you get this picture perfect wedding?

Golden fields can be found almost anywhere, and while we don’t think twice when driving by, they are truly a beautiful setting for weddings. Decorating this type of wedding can be tricky. Here are some cute ideas for your outdoor wedding.

Lanterns - Although simple, lanterns can be a beautiful way to decorate your ceremony and reception. Collecting old Mason jars, paper lanterns, or Moroccan votives will help you create the wedding you imagined. You can line them up along the field, hang them from the trees, or use them for table settings. Get creative!

Ribbon – Ribbons are known to be universal. We can use them for wrapping gifts, in our hair, on clothing, even for our feet and arms. Having so many varieties of color and size, ribbon would make a perfect backdrop for your altar or head table. Using subtle hues such as cream, white, and even pale yellow, then add some blue and red as the pop of color that brings everything together. You can also consider mixing streamers to add different sizes and textures. If you’re really feeling audaciously bold, add some pattern streamers to your backdrop, creating a one of a kind statement piece at your altar!

DO’S & DONT’S Do use strips of yarn with fringe on it to make a curtain backdrop. The possibilities are endless.

DEFINING YOUR STYLE While planning your wedding you are often asked to define your wedding day style. You commonly hear terms such as rustic, bohemian, or traditional.

We have included four key elements that can be used to determine your wedding style.

Fashion. Your wedding gown sets the tone for the rest of the wedding party and guests. For a more casual look, let your groomsmen and bridesmaids select varying outfits with matching fabrics or colors and use matching accessories to tie everyone together.

Guest List. Typically more guests and attendants indicate a formal affair.

If you want an intimate wedding, try to keep the guest list below 50, with only one or two attendants.

Location. While decor and props can transform any space, selection of the venue will establish the setting and backdrop.

Decor. The finishing touches will define your style and pull together all of your choices. Lanterns and candles can create an intimate feeling, while chandeliers and over the top centerpieces add a touch of elegance.

Each choice is independent, however they impact one another. Find the perfect mix and define your own wedding style.

After a five and a half year courtship Kristen Stonum and Sean Hogan tied the knot on April 12, 2014 in a classic beach ceremony at the Serenata Beach Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Kristen walked down the aisle in a gorgeous LeAnn Belter gown from J Majors Bridal Boutique in Charlotte, NC. Kristen and Sean chose to honor members of their family who passed, incorporating family heirlooms throughout their wedding ceremony and reception. A lace handkerchief, made by the bride’s Great Grandmother, Beatrice Abbott, wrapped Kristen’s bouquet, which also featured her GreatGreat Grandmother’s antique cameo. Kristen wore her Grandmother’s gold and diamond ring on her right hand and Sean’s tie-pin belonged to the bride’s Grandfather, Jim Doris that he wore at Kristen’s mother’s wedding. Sean wore a white handkerchief, which belonged to his Grandfather, Dewey Fye, the last handkerchief ironed by his Grandmother, Anne Fye, in his vest pocket. Sean carried a St. Christopher Charm in his shoe, a gift from his Grandmother, for good luck. The couple used a silver serving tray, which belonged to Kristen’s Great Grandmother Montague, as their cake stand and used Kristen’s Cousin’s Navy sword to cut the cake representing the Navy tradition in her family. Kristen’s Grandfather, CDR Robert Stonum’s Navy silk scarf was displayed on their seating card table.

Before their honeymoon in Moorea, Tahiti where the bride and groom will relax, snorkel and surf for ten days iWed sat down with Kristen to talk about their big day.

When did you know Sean was the one? We were long distance for the first year and half of our relationship so when we got to see each other we cherished every moment. I went to meet his family up in New York over Christmas the first year we were dating. Sean took me snowboarding for the first time. He was very patient with me, even though I was not catching on to snowboarding as easily as I would have liked. I knew by the way he was with his family and by how patient and kind he was teaching me to snowboard that he was the one.

How did he propose? Sean loves to surf and does so any chance he can get. He told me there was a big swell coming into Charleston, South Carolina. So we packed our bags for a sporadic trip. He of course had it all planned. Before we went to dinner that night we took a walk on the beach and we stumbled upon a message in a bottle under the pier. He had placed it there earlier without my knowledge. When I opened the bottle to read the message I recognized Sean’s handwriting and he was already down on one knee. It was absolutely perfect!

What was your most memorable moment? All the Bridesmaids put together a choreographed dance for me. Each Bridesmaid was featured in a song that reminded them of me. It was a complete surprise and I absolutely loved how it was personalized to each of our friendships.

What advice do you have for brides that are planning their wedding day? My advice would to be to make sure you are very organized and have everything you want written down so that all vendors are clear. I gave a detailed list to my venue on how I wanted to room to be set up, a list of what pictures I wanted the photographer to take, and a list to the band of my favorite songs they played in order. All my vendors appreciated the clear direction and I knew I would get exactly what I wanted.
