Experience engaging local performances and touring troupes this fall at venues large and small. The current performance selection at the Blackfriars Playhouse at the renowned American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, the world’s only replica of Shakespeare’s original indoor theater, includes “The Rise of Queen Margaret,” “Twelfth Night,” “King Lear” and “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.” In nearby Barboursville, Four County Players brings us the emotional, “Bullet for Unaccompanied Heart.” This tragic tale interspersed with comedic elements follows the story of blues guitarist, Dugan McBane, who is taken hostage by the ghost of his former lover. Meanwhile, Charlottesville art-lovers will be happy to experience the Picasso, Lydia and Friends III exhibit at Les Yeux du Monde Gallery this fall. This exhibit will be held in memory of local artist, former University of Virginia professor, and world-renowned Picasso scholar Lydia Gasman whose works will also be on display. Other artists included in this exhibit are William Bennett, Anne Chesnut, Dean Dass, Rosemarie Fiore, Sanda Iliescu, David Summers, Russ Warren and, of course, Picasso. Newly reopened Chroma Projects will also have exciting exhibits this fall, including “Floating Worlds: The Art of Sherrie Hunt” in October and “Tactility: Sculpture by Alan Binstock and Paintings by Kathleen Markowitz” in November! Sprint Wireless Pavilion Also this fall, The Paramount Theater welcomes a variety of hilarious and musical acts, and the Live Arts Theater presents many unique shows, like “The Spoon River Project” and “Rumplestiltskin.” All country music fans in the area can look forward to a visit from Kenny Rogers and special guest Linda Davis in Roger’s, Final World Tour: The Gambler’s Last Deal. Others will enjoy the political satire of the comedy troupe, Capital Steps. A group of former senate staffers, this funny group quit their day jobs to satirize the workings of D.C. If Kenny Rogers wasn’t enough, country fans will also be excited to see Carrie Underwood at the John Paul Jones arena during part of her The Storyteller Tour. For information on other fall shows and series, such as the Glenn Miller Orchestra at The Paramount Theater and the Latin Ballet of Virginia at Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC), check out our calendar at CharlottesvilleWelcomeBook.com.
