The Ivors Composer Awards 2020
The Ivors Academy Welcome
This continues to be an incredibly difficult year for music and the arts. At such a time it’s essential that we unite in our recognition of exceptional talent and the importance of commissioning, funding and playing new compositions. As a sector we’ve been hit hard by the pandemic, and as we hopefully emerge from the worst of the health crisis we will rebuild our industry by putting contemporary composers and music creators at the centre of our efforts.
The Ivors Academy
Welcome
A very warm welcome to The Ivors Composer Awards 2020. On behalf of everyone at The Ivors Academy we’re delighted that you’re part of this celebration of outstanding creativity in composing for classical, jazz and sound arts.
This year’s The Ivors Composer Awards sees 53 works nominated across eleven categories, with over 50% by first-time nominees, demonstrating the strength of creative talent across generations of composers. A huge congratulations go to all our nominees and winners on your incredible achievements. We’re delighted to welcome Julian Joseph OBE to the Academy as a Fellow, and to honour Yazz Ahmed with the Innovation Award and Cecilia McDowall with the Outstanding Works Collection Award.
