We are so excited to embark on this next year with all of you! We were both truly blessed to be a part of such an amazing team this last year and cannot wait to see what our new team has in store for next year. We wish them the best on their new adventures beyond Ivey and IFRC!

Next year will be filled with fun, creativity, community and learning. We brought back one of our most beloved events, the clothing swap, to great success! Attendees generously donated their gently used clothing, receiving vouchers in return These vouchers granted them access to browse and select items from the donated collections the following day. Importantly, all remaining clothing at the event's conclusion was promptly donated to ANOVA, a charitable organization dedicated to offering safe havens, shelter, support, counseling, and resources to abused women, their children, and marginalized individuals. Our event not only promoted circular fashion and sustainability but also supported a deeply meaningful cause, aligning fashion with social responsibility.

The IFRC took over the Ivey Grand Hall on March 14th for the first-ever Ivey Retail Market We had an amazing turnout with so many students coming out in support of local and sustainable vendors. The event featured a diverse array of offerings from jewelry, to handmade makeup bags, vintage clothing, and so much more!

March 1, 2024

On March 1st, the IFRC hosted a career panel aimed at providing students with insights from professionals holding diverse roles in the fashion, retail, and cosmetics sectors. The esteemed panelists included Luis Perez, Director of Finance and Business Management at Estee Lauder; Jessica Gale, Chief Customer Officer at Henry Rosen; Bram Warshafsky, Founder of Shelfgram; and Zena Utsalo, Fashion Stylist. Attendees had the invaluable opportunity to receive career guidance and industry insights from these experts, followed by a Q&A session where they could ask specific questions.

SPRING TRENDS 2024

What’snewthis season?

Spring is my favorite season for several reasons: the return of sunshine, my birthday, the rebirth of nature, my birthday, and perhaps most excitingly, the ideal conditions for fashion exploration! As Summer prepares to grace us with its presence, Winter has yet to accept defeat. Thus, on the occasional brisk day, you can take this final opportunity to pull out some boots, a trench coat, and your favorite scarf! However, as temperatures rise, shorts, dresses, and sandals will re-enter your closet and become staples once again. In celebration of this dynamic season, I'm eager to dive into some of the spring fashion trends that I'm particularly looking forward to embracing

ANIMALPRINT

Starting off with perhaps the most controversial trend, animal print is roaring back onto the fashion scene this spring! Yes, fortunately or unfortunately for the select few animal print is back in style. If your pinterest board is anything like mine, leopard print in particular has made its mark, leaving impressions on a variety of pieces. Whether it's the widely sought after Adidas Sambas, jeans, and even dresses, leopard print is making an appearance everywhere this spring. Now, I know that animal print can seem intimidating, and may even induce some early 2000s flashbacks, but if styled correctly, this trend can be easily incorporated into your everyday outfits! Think of it like any other pattern. With a simple, somewhat monotoned outfit, the animal print of your choosing can elevate any classic look As with any other fashion choice, the most important thing is to wear it with confidence!

TEXTILEEXPERIMENTATION

Another trend we’re seeing this spring is the experimentation with different textiles. Sheer materials are at the forefront, combining both romanticism and delicacy, making it the perfect option for layering.

Although sheer tops have been popular for a while now, this season has taken transparency to the next level by applying it to skirts and pants! Similarly, lace, with its timeless appeal, has also experienced a surge in popularity. This spring, lace has been reinterpreted in contemporary silhouettes which perfectly blends the charm of vintage fabrics with modern-day designs. These sheer fabrics embody this season's lightness and fluidity, offering endless possibilities for personal expression and stylistic innovation.

Consider the types of accessories you already own and actually like to wear You might’ve been inspired by an outfit you saw with a statement necklace, but you don’t own one or you dislike wearing things around your neck. That’s okay, you can still create a cohesive and attractive outfit! Allow your accessory collection and comfort zone to grow both slowly and organically.

4 Choose a focal point

Picking one aspect that you want to accent can help you accessorize. Perhaps you want to draw focus to your hairstyle by using hair bows. Or maybe you want the focal point to be the accessory itself by wearing a statement piece. Take into consideration the other accessories you plan to wear when deciding on a focal point or statement piece to create balance.

Where are you headed? The office? Sunday brunch? Consider the occasion, its dress code, and the image you want to create with your outfit. For example, if you’re planning for a night out and want to create a dramatic look, you might opt for a pair of vibrant earrings or striking heels Lastly, consider what you need to bring for the occasion. For instance, if you have many items to carry, a larger bag may be more functional than a small handheld purse.

5 Pay attention to depth and proportion

Consider combining different sizes and textures to add depth, such as layering various necklaces or rings for a visually appealing effect. Next, ensure that the size and scale of your accessories are in balance with each other and your outfit. Finally, pay attention to the visual weight your accessories add. Larger, darker, and more textured accessories increase visual weight In contrast, smaller, less opaque and embellished accessories decrease visual weight.
