airways MEET THE STAFF BY ANDREW TUNSTALL (GB-EAC) Hi Guys, my name is Andrew and I am the Events Assistant Coordinator. I work with Mr Clover and other events departments to bring you some of the most fun and challenging events, and trust me we have some amazing events planned for this year. That doesn’t mean were not open to ideas, in fact we have an event coming soon which was the idea of a member, just drop us an email. I joined IVAO in 2010 after moving from another network. I haven’t looked back and logged a good few hours online. My plan for this year is to start controlling and get my ADC, so if you’re flying and see me sitting on a tower position, fly in or out and say hello. I mainly fly for BA Virtual, but I have started the IFR European tour – which is different for me and gets me away from Heathrow which is a pleasant change. I have a busy job, which can see me in Newcastle one day and deep in Norfolk the next. Outside of work and flight sim, I enjoy time in the gym, although I’m fighting a losing battle with that, have a great group of friends which one of them shares my aviation passion and we can often be found at the end of East Midlands watching the cargos come in. As I said above, the event department always welcome suggestions and ideas – we want to make it fun for everyone, just drop me an email at gb-eac@ivao.aero.

MESSAGE FROM DIVISIONAL HEADQUARTERS BY JACK PLUMB (GB-DIR) Welcome to the February Edition of airways! We've seen changes happen in the past few weeks here at IVAO UK as I find myself becoming the Director. Before we continue, I'd like to thank Tom for the fantastic work he done as I continue to build the Division off of his foundations. We say goodbye to January, a month of some brilliant events prepared by our Events Department; Manchester Overload and the Gatwick to Stockholm Airbridge, and the announcement of upcoming features to our websites. January also saw further changes in the Staff Team, welcome Jason Moore into his new position as GB-TAC, Dan Nicholas as GB-AOAC and Thomas Carter as GB-AOC. As we enter February we hope to continue our success. We aim to continue the friendly atmosphere and welcoming into our airspace whether you flying, controlling or observing. The Event Department has once again some fantastic events planned, more on that later, and I advise members to keep their eyes peeled on the forum to gather their name on the rosters or roosters as it appears to be lately!

DESTINATION GUIDE BY: DANNY RICHMOND (GB-MAC) London Luton (EGGW) London Luton is an international airport located 30.5nm from the centre of London. Luton is a busy airport, serving around 10,000,000 passengers every year and is the 5th busiest airport in the UK under Stansted with 95,000 aircraft movements yearly. The airport is a hub for a number of very popular airlines including: Easyjet, Monarch, Thomson Airways, and Ryanair. The 2nd busiest airline at the airport is Wizzair although they do not base a single aircraft at the airport, Generally in the morning there will be some 12 arrivals in the space of only 90 minutes The bulk of the traffic over 45% in fact come in form of business aviation. These include both maintenance and passenger flights. Luton has a single runway (08/26) running 2160m in length with an ILS Approach which operates to category 3B limits. The airport has 56 stands including and Main terminal and Cargo Centre. To control at Luton on the IVAO network you will require an AS3 rating to use ether Ground or Tower. airways EVENTS DEPARTMENT BY ALEXANDER CLOVER (GB-EC) After our successful events in January, IVAO UK has two more great events that you’ll really enjoy. First up is the Sochi Groupflight. Departing London Gatwick [EGKK] at 13z we head east, testing your skills and knowledge with metric airspace and expect it to be busy, as IVAO RU & HQ are holding a special fly in to Sochi. At around 1700nm plan your flight wisely and ensure you have enough fuel on board for any holds. More information can be found here: http://gb.forum.ivao.aero/index.php?topic=237755.0 To follow we have what will probably be one of the biggest events on IVAO. The Atlantic Crossing Westbound, this event is one of the most highly populated events. We have a whole load of European Airports you can fly from. We are heading off to the snowy land of Canada as well as the sunny land of Florida. The US and Canadian division are kindly providing us service with these airports. Pilots who depart from any of the European airports, will route via Shanwick and Gander for the Atlantic crossing. The route will be fully staffed for the entire crossing to ensure realism for all involved! Please note that departures from Madrid, Lisbon and Larjes will route through Santa Maria towards New York Oceanic and that way to America. More information: http://gb.forum.ivao.aero/index.php?topic=237752.0 During the event the will you meet up with pilots from all the other divisions and head across the Atlantic on certain tracks toward Canada. This will hopefully give you a taste of what is like in real life as all the long haul aircrafts fly across the Atlantic to Canada and America. Finally IVAO UK will soon be doing an airbridge between two UK airports but the events department can't decide on what route to do. So here's the deal above is 6 options that you can choose from, you can pick your favourite route and you’re second favourite. When the voting is closed the votes will be looked at and we will see what route we will be doing for our latest UK Airbridge. More information: http://gb.forum.ivao.aero/index.php?topic=237427.0 Next month we will have a very special announcement regarding an event that will be along the same lines as the Atlantic Crossing. STAY TUNED.
