Personal Statement
Growing up in an environment which places emphasis on education, it is unsurprising that competitive school ladder system appeals to many people, including myself. Performing consistently at the best of my ability in school is built into me from an early age as it is a common expectation. However, I start to question its importance and value when it becomes apparent that deep inside, I am tired of being trapped in the same repetitive and mundane cycle. I need growth, and a drastic change of perspective beyond the world of academic studies. I am truly grateful that a best friend of mine introduced me to the world of Design, which I hold dearly until today. I want to understand my own self better and what I want to do in life. This leads me to the term “Architecture”, which give me a new life experience itself.
Equipped with a changed perspective, I started to learn more about design and then I tried to enroll on Gadjah Mada University Named as the City of Students, it is no wonder that Yogyakarta becomes one of the main destinations for students outside the region who want to study. Like the saying, it's a complete package. In addition to having a top national campus, the cost of living there is also very cheap. Through this opportunity, I learn to improve my design and social skills, which are useful and valuable for my role in the workplace.
Apart from skills that I believe will be useful for my role in the workplace, I also possess skills that will help me thrive within the community of my workplace First, my self-driven and willing-to-learn attitude set me to be a fast-learner. I have leveraged on this strength by learning languages such as basic Chinese and English, as well as designing app such as Autocad, Sketchup, Lumion, and Adobe. I have always showed a deep interest in learning design, and I have exposed myself to both graphic design and architecture design. Secondly, I value workplace diversity. I understand well that each team member has different take and opinion on an issue and I respect their opinions by listening to ideas from all backgrounds and giving constructive inputs to improve on subject matter. Finally, during my free time, I often learn about web and app design, which may help me in contributing my design through online platform.
With all the relevant academic qualifications, skills and experience that I have accumulated, I believe that I possess the values and qualities that will help me in fostering a strong design experience and contributing to the burgeoning startup scene.
