Whether you are new to Lincoln Parish, contemplating a move to this area, or just visiting, I would like to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome from the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.

We are very fortunate to have two great universities in our area.

Louisiana Tech University is North Louisiana’s only Carnegie Foundation Research University and is also North Louisiana’s only Tier I National University. This institution continues to gain national recognition for its academics and athletics.

Grambling State University is a Earl Smith Chamber Chair historically black public university.

The school is home of the Eddie G. Robinson Museum and is listed on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail. The Louisiana Board of Regents recently gave Grambling State University the green light to proceed with plans to establish the first undergraduate cybersecurity degree program in the state. The Board of Regents has also recently approved a new undergraduate nursing program for the institution.

Along with our universities, Lincoln Parish is home to one of the best mountain bike trails in American. The Lincoln Parish Park is a treasure for mountain bike lovers and non-cyclist as well. Backpacking, birding, hiking, camping, and swimming are other recreational opportunities for this destination.

Lincoln Parish is fortunate to have one of the top rated golf courses in the South. Squire Creek Country Club is an eighteen holes championship course designed by Tom Fazio.

The course has been rated 2nd in the state by Golf Digest.

Art is a very important part of the culture of Lincoln Parish.

Along with having several local artists in the area, Ruston is home to the Ruston Dixie Center. This historic landmark houses the Northern Louisiana Arts Council and is a host site for many concerts, plays, and other community events.

Along with many great local restaurants, our downtown area continues to flourish and prosper with growth from new jobs coming to this area and the increasing number of college students from our local universities. We invite you to visit and see why so many residents in this area are proud to call Lincoln Parish their home.

HISTORY Historic Ruston When the Civil War ended in 1865, the South had suffered massive destruction. Individuals and families on both sides of the conflict had their lives changed forever.

Here in the piney hills of north central Louisiana, the war had kept its distance, the closest military action having taken place in the Red River Valley near Shreveport and along the Mississippi River at Vicksburg.

With the countryside having been spared, the war’s aftermath would help chart a new course for the farmers and merchants who called this area home.

As the Era of Reconstruction took hold, a new parish was carved from existing ones in 1873 and named after President Abraham Lincoln.

Word soon reached the young parish that the Vicksburg, Shreveport and Pacific Railroad would begin to run across north Louisiana, linking the Deep South with Texas.

For one individual, this brought to fruition a lifelong dream of having people live nearby whom he could call neighbors. Little did Robert E. Russ know that his dream for a new town to be located near his plantation would eventually become known as “Ruston,” short for Russ town.

By 1884, Ruston was incorporated. Russ had donated roughly 640 acres for the town’s location, and former Union Army surveyors working for the railroad had laid out unusually wide, spacious avenues among the towering oaks and pines.

As the town began to take shape, new churches, businesses, civic organizations and schools were established. The vast stands of virgin timber and the availability of fertile lands for cotton farming fueled the booming economy.

In 1890, the Louisiana Chautauqua was chartered in Lincoln Parish and the community’s foundation in education was laid. Louisiana Tech, established in 1894, and Grambling State, founded in 1901, are the cornerstones upon which the area strongly stands over a century later.

In 1900, a second railroad, running north and south, was built through Ruston. By the outbreak of World War I in 1917, Ruston was well established as a center for learning, a place of civic pride and as an area of economic prosperity throughout the region.

Ruston continued to grow steadily during the post-World War II prosperity of the 1950’s. The GI Bill, which sent war veterans to college, helped fuel the local economy, resulting in tremendous growth at the local universities. By the late 1950’s, news reached Ruston that would have significant impact — a new interstate highway was to be built that would run through the northern fringe of the city.

Completed by the early 1970’s, Interstate 20 made Ruston more easily accessible, much as the railroad had done a century before. This, too, brought new opportunities for growth and development.

In the 1980’s, the state’s economy lagged after the oil industry went “belly-up.” Ruston, however, continued growing steadily.

The city experienced unprecedented growth during the 1990’s; and even now, a decade into the new century, new subdivisions are popping up everywhere, shopping areas on the north side of town are expanding at a rapid pace, and opportunities for learning and recreation continue to expand. Downtown continues to offer a variety of retail shops and eateries.

Education remains cutting edge.

The Parish has preserved its history well, and has also managed to expertly incorporate their history with their modern growth. True to Robert E. Russ’s dream, Ruston continues to open its doors to those looking for a healthy business environment, an opportunity to receive a quality education and a great place – a Peach of a Place – to raise a family. In the spirit of Ruston’s founder, the Robert E. Russ Award is presented to one community changing Ruston resident each year. This award is the most prestigious

to be given by the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.

The historic downtown district of Ruston is home to many of these majestic structures. More than 23 historic buildings have been placed on the Louisiana National Register of historic places.

Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Turns 100 With roots stretching back to 1919, the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce has served the needs of the business community, and in turn the community at large, in a variety of capacities.

What began as an organization formed to represent the needs of the business community has evolved into a multi-

disciplinary membership service organization and sales and public relations agency representing not only Ruston but all of Lincoln Parish.

The Chamber is the vehicle that pulls together volunteers from all segments of the community with the purpose and intent of making our community the best it can be relative to the business climate,

political process and the many facets of that measurement known as “quality of life.”

Through its Board of Directors, the Chamber acts as a de facto legislative body for area businesses, adopting policies and resolutions conducive to producing a strong local economy.

The Ruston-based North Central Louisiana Arts Council (NCLAC) has helped to enhance the arts and culture of Ruston’s historic downtown district. NCLAC sponsors a Fall Art Tours and Holiday Open House allowing the public to tour local galleries, meet local artists and watch them work behind the scenes. The artists are also featured in several local restaurants, shops and boutiques.

Those who like the performing arts will find themselves right at home in our community. The Dixie Center for the

Arts brings nationally and internationally known performers, as well as musicals, theatre productions and special events in conjunction with Ruston Community Theater, NCLAC, and other community groups. The Louisiana Tech Concert Association, Stone Theatre and Grambling State University’s Floyd L. Sandle Theatre also offer top-bill attractions.

Ruston Artisans brings a combination of visually stimulating and thoughtful exhibits, fun, yet educational workshops, and community oriented and informative social events. The historic Dixie Theatre, 212 North Vienna St. in Ruston, is a 580-seat performing arts hall in the heart of downtown used for live theatre, dance, music performances of all kinds, and hosts the work or talented local artists. Built in 1928, the theatre has been renovated, but still features its old style, including an elaborate crystal chandelier hung in 1932.

Local Museums

Lincoln Parish is home to several museums. The Lincoln Parish Museum documents the area’s rich history with memorabilia and the “Walls that Talk” mural and tour. The North Louisiana Military Museum is a history buff’s delight offering a unique local perspective into our nation’s military history through a collection of weapons and relics. It also features artifacts from Camp Ruston, one of the largest POW camps in the nation during World War II. The Eddie Robinson Museum pays tribute to one of the greatest football coaches in American history.

“Coach Rob” led the Grambling State Tigers from 1941 to 1997, rolling up an astounding 408 victories, 17 Southwestern Athletic Conference titles and nine Black College Football National Championships. He placed more than 200 former players into the professional ranks.

Lincoln Parish Museum

Lincoln Parish Museum and Historical Society offer a turn-ofthe-century experience of historic Lincoln Parish. Built in 1886, the Kidd-Davis home is housed with beautiful dolls, furniture, and murals.

In the gallery, visitors can view clothing, farm equipment, kitchen supplies, and accessories unique to the late 1800s era.

North Louisiana Military Museum

Any true military buff must see the collection housed at the North Louisiana Military Museum in Ruston. Featuring uniforms, weapons, flags, training gear, aircraft, and vehicles from almost every conflict in American history, the museum will fascinate anyone with even the slightest interest in how Americans, and our enemies, faced the challenges of combat. Eddie Robinson Museum

Trophies, plaques and other memorabilia of legendary Grambling State University football coach Eddie Robinson are on exhibit at the Eddie Robinson museum located on the campus of GSU. In 1985, Robinson became the winningest coach in college football history with 324 wins.

He retired in 1997 with 408 victories.

Family Fun Peach Orchards Acres of peach trees that grow the best peaches in the country are in and around Lincoln Parish. Nestled among the rolling hills of northwest Ruston, Mitcham Farms is the largest peach orchard in the parish. Since its founding as a recreational facility for the LA United Methodist Children’s Home, it has grown into a premier location for conferences, outdoor activities, equine psychotherapy, and weddings.

With ropes courses, horseback riding, ball fields, gardens, campgrounds, and a maze, it is easy to see why one would choose The OWL Center for their leadership training or summer camp.

The center provides equine therapy for the youth at the LA United Methodist Children’s Home along with Therapeutic Riding for the general public.

This faith-based facility is operated

by Louisiana United Methodist Children & Family Services, Inc., but also raises funds by selling jelly and salsa made from fruit grown on the OWL property.

Many of their products are available for purchase in local stores in Lincoln Parish and are available online. If one were to look at the label of an OWL product, one would find the name of the volunteer

group responsible for making that particular jar.

The high and low ropes courses and the maze are open for anyone interested in dropping in for a day of fun, while cabins, bunk houses, and tenting lots can be rented for an overnight stay in the woods. The Henning Conference Center can also be rented for meetings, conventions, weddings and more.

The most recently created mural, also located downtown, represents the city’s special relationship with the blind community. Lincoln Parish Library Serving our community with pride!

Lincoln Parish Library and Events Center is located at the intersection of the two main roadways in the parish – Interstate 20 and US Hwy 167 – and serves as the gateway to the historical downtown Ruston area. The Library is a state of the art facility, boasting 68 public access computers with oneon-one computer classes available on request; multiple databases on many subjects, and online homework assistance. LPL offers Outreach Services to anyone that is homebound, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities and childcare centers. There are award winning children’s classes, homeschool classes, a genealogy center, a Spanish collection, and a phenomenal teen collection.

Classes and events are offered to all ages. Some events have included piano concerts, a children’s magician, musical concerts of various types, craft programs, historical lectures, author visits, zombie proms, theater presentations, and exciting summer reading programs. The library is expanding its services with job

searching assistance and small business resources for our patrons.

Approximately 30,000 visits are made to the library each month and for the past 4 years, Lincoln Parish Library has checked out more materials per capita than any library in the state. In 2012, LPL won the coveted James O. Modisette Award for Public Libraries, recognizing the excellence and service provided, making LPL one of the most respected and admired libraries in Louisiana and the southeast United States.

The Exchange The Exchange, a program of The Ross Lynn Charitable Foundation, is a membership-based coalition of knowledge, resources, and shared outreach. It exists to enhance the current work of nonprofit organizations, nurture future leaders, and cultivate new and emerging programs in North Central Louisiana. Launched in February of 2018, The Exchange’s commitment to the community and its mission is to mobilize communal impact by connecting funders, policy makers, and responders and by offering resources, education, and support to its members.

In the first year of the work of The Exchange: • 25 area organizations serving Lincoln, Jackson, Union, Natchitoches and Claiborne Parishes became members • Over $180,000 in grant opportunities was identified for the members, and several educational resources were provided to assist in the grant writing process • Partnered in the launch of The Next Steps, a collaborative process created to form task forces to research and develop responses to issues surrounding hunger, shelter, and transportation in Lincoln Parish • Launched The Reuse Project, a reusable shopping bag campaign promoting reduction in the use of singleuse plastics in North Louisiana. The launch of The Reuse Project signified the beginning of the Ruston Environmental Stewardship Week 2018, a week dedicated to raising awareness of environmentally friendly practices The Exchange operates with the mindset that collaboration is the key to successful and fruitful outreach.

HEALTHY LIVING Sports fans can light their competitive flame at places all around the parish. There are seasonal leagues for adults and youngsters sponsored by Ruston Parks and Recreation department. Garland Gregory Hideaway Park, on the Louisiana Tech University campus, offers joggers and walkers the perfect setting for breaking a sweat or having a picnic, as does Lincoln Parish Park, where camping, fishing and biking are also options. Not only does Lincoln Parish Park feature some of the nation’s best mountain bike trails, but it’s the site of Legacy Park, a boundless playground designed to accommodate special-needs youngsters.

The Rock Island Greenway is a shared-use walking, running and bicycling path and linear park that will eventually run almost 6 miles across the city and potentially to El Dorado, Arkansas. The path will connect neighborhoods, businesses, educational institutions, and recreational amenities. The greenway greatly improves quality of life, economic opportunity, and the health of our community.

A greenway is a linear park or open area that encourages recreation and active transportation, typically through bike and pedestrian paths. The greenway is the first of its kind in the region and serves as a vital transportation link that fosters a vibrant and active culture, encourages economic development and opportunity, promotes safety and health, and offers our community a state-of-the art public space.

Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the greenway or any undesignated parking areas. The greenway is open daily from sunrise to sunset.

The first leg of the greenway officially opened in June of 2017 and runs south from the intersection of W. Kentucky and Chautauqua. This twelve-foot-wide path traverses a native forest aside a small creek. Be on the lookout for migratory songbirds.

Simsboro Founded: 1849 Located: 8 miles west of Ruston on U.S. 80, exit 76 from I-20 About: Site of Camp Ruston, World War II prisoner of war camp that was one of the largest in the nation. At its peak in 1942, the camp held 4,315 prisoners. Simsboro is also home to the Antique Valley RV Park.

Choudrant

“It’s going the right way,” Choudrant Mayor Bill Sanderson said about the village of 979 people that calls itself “Louisiana’s Front Porch.” Choudrant is approximately 7 miles east of Ruston.

Under Sanderson’s leadership, the village has implemented zoning, land use, and building codes.

Choudrant residents have a variety of housing options ranging from rural acreages to million-dollar golf-course homes at Squire Creek

Country Club.

Over the past dozen years, home values in Choudrant have doubled or better.

Sanderson attributes the community’s growth to the quality of the district’s schools, the village’s location on U.S. 80 with easy access to Interstate 20, the affordability of housing, and the openness of Choudrant residents.

Though the village will likely officially become a town within the next five years, Sanderson said being a village is an asset. “In a village, everybody knows their neighbor,” he said. “The quaintness of a village and what it brings is a title we want to retain.”

U.S. 167, Dubach is ready for growth, Jenson said.

“We’re a quiet town.

We’re a small community.

We care about others,” he said. “It’s a good place to raise a family.”

Many of Dubach’s 960 residents have lived there all of their lives. Now, secondgeneration Dubach natives are returning home, Jenson said. The town is drawing other new residents, too.

Dubach is home to the Louisiana Chicken Festival, an annual event held the 4th weekend in September.

This small northern Lincoln Parish community welcomes hundreds of people during this event.

Jenson sees Dubach as poised for development, with location being one of the town’s primary assets.

But most of all, said Jenson, “Dubach is just home.”

Former State Representative L.D. “Buddy” Napper, who served from 1952 to 1964, and practiced law for a half-century in Ruston, was a Simsboro native and is interred there at Simsboro City Cemetery.

Simsboro is home to numerous businesses including manufacturing companies, Ardagh Glass and Roseburg Forest Products. Simsboro is located conveniently to Grambling State University and LA Tech University.

Located about five miles north of Ruston on U.S. 167, Vienna offers residents room to spread out. Yards may be anywhere from 2 to 4 acres, Carpenter said.

Unlike the other outlying communities, each of which has its own schools, Vienna does not. The village is in the Ruston school district.

Vienna’s “just a nice bedroom community,” Carpenter said. “It’s quiet, and everybody knows each other.”

Festivals Whether you are looking for a fun weekend getaway or an exciting new place to call home, Lincoln Parish has entertainment for you to experience year-round. Ruston, Dubach, Choudrant and Grambling, all within Lincoln Parish, each have exciting annual events that draw thousands of guests from all over north Louisiana.

Ruston

Mardi Gras will be celebrated in Ruston’s downtown district with a festival on Saturday, March 2, 2019. “Jazz it up” in Railroad Park with food trucks, live music, local vendors, activities for the kids, and more. Bring the family out to celebrate, then stick around for the Mardi Gras parade rolling through at 6:30 p.m. True to tradition, you’ll see beautifully decorated floats throwing out beads, candy, and prizes. Proceeds from the event benefit Junior Auxiliary of Ruston. Follow them on Facebook for more event information.

The Railroad Makers & Music Festival features over 100 local artists & makers and area musicians all while providing a full day of food and fun in Downtown Ruston. You’ll find everything from knitwear, woodworks, pottery and sculptures, custom shirts and apparel, handmade jewelry and clothing, organic soaps and shampoos and more.

Artists and groups are also on site with demonstrations and activities for kids. The 2019 Railroad Fest will be held on April 13. For more information follow Railroad Festival on Facebook.

Ruston’s own Louisiana Peach Festival held annually on the fourth Saturday and the preceding Friday in June, is hailed as one of the oldest continuous agriculture-based festival in the state. Since 1950, peach fans have traveled from all around to experience the crafts, music, parade, car show, and peach-flavored everything. In fact, since 2015 the Louisiana Peach Festival holds the Guinness World Record for the largest peach cobbler ever made. The giant slice of peachy heaven weighed in at almost 2,300 pounds. Now, to commemorate the record, a cobbler eating contest is held.

Other peachy activities during the festival include a Peach Cookery contest, 5K run/walk, rodeo, kids’ activities, art exhibit, baby photo contest, a kids’ fishing tournament, bass tournament, and an Arts and Crafts show. The week leading to the festival, play the Peach Stops Passport game for a chance to win $1,000 or other prizes.

Dubach

The fourth week of September brings with it Dubach’s annual Louisiana Chicken Festival. The festival, which celebrates the area’s poultry farmers, culminates on Friday and Saturday with live music, a cooking competition, a chicken eating contest, and the hilarious Strut, Cackle, and Crow contest where participants bring out their best chicken impersonations. Choudrant

The Village of Choudrant hosts the National Outhouse Races, a soapbox derby style race featuring outhouses instead of traditional racecars. Racers are required to sit on the toilet, which ranges from a hole cut in a board to an actual toilet seat. In 2014, the event was featured on A&E’s hit show, Duck Dynasty. Grambling

HEALTH CARE North Louisiana Medical Center Since 2007, Northern Louisiana Medical Center has been serving primarily a sixparish area of north central Louisiana. NLMC is an acute-care, 165 bed facility.

Seventy-seven physicians representing 29 specialties are on staff. In addition, 26 physicians are on the courtesy staff, 23 consulting physicians and 36 allied health professionals.

EDUCATION The Lincoln Parish School District continues to confidently advance with a public school system known for embracing change, demonstrating consistent progress, and receiving accolades along the way. With rigorous standards at the crux of its academic foundation and in-depth vertical alignment enriching its instructional practice, the district has rapidly moved beyond the mere basics to focus on challenging yet robust student learning experiences honed around rigor, relevance, and relationships while immersed in collaboration, communication, innovation, and creativity.

Superintendent Mike Milstead continues leading the Lincoln Parish District toward a world-class educational experience designed to empower students for success. New features throughout the district include an Enhanced School Calendar program for grades k-5, language immersion at the pre-k level which is poised to expand this year, a piloted schoolbased health program on the Simsboro campus, state leadership in piloting the newly unveiled national middle grades open source science curriculum, and engineering classes on all high school campuses. Committed to providing cutting-edge facilities, exemplary educational tools, and unparalleled classroom facilitation, the district remains committed to attaining the highest level of achievement and success regardless of challenges that may lay in its way.

During 2017, the LPSB approved a six-year $16 million Capital Outlay Plan.

The plans provide for construction upgrades and improvement of facilities for the Ruston, Simsboro, Dubach, and Choudrant Districts. A project that provided generators at all facilities was completed in 2018. A $590,000 special education building at Ruston High School was completed in 2018. A $2.7 million district STEM—science, technology, engineering, mathematics—Center located on the Ruston Junior High School campus began construction in 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2019.

with approximately $350,000 being spent in 2018 to equip and upgrade schools. Within nine years, Lincoln Parish has invested more than $6.8 million in technology for classrooms throughout the district.

With graduation rates steadily increasing, Lincoln Parish saw all high schools surge past the state average to further eclipse the 2017 goal of 80% with an incredible average of 95.7%. #1 throughout the expansive northern part of the state, the top ranking district across the I-20 corridor, and #8 for the entire state, Lincoln Parish earned a “B” District Performance Score based on the Department of Education’s stringent new calculations. With only four “A” scores across the state, Lincoln saw just three “B” districts ahead of its score which places it in elite company among the top ten highest rated Louisiana school systems. Showing incredible growth over the 2017-18 year, the district was also recognized for ranking 7th in the state for increasing student performance through progress points. Continuing to lead the way for the District’s impressive accolades was Choudrant High School with its sixth consecutive grade of an “A” and Ruston High School with its third consecutive grade of an “A.” Also named 2018 Equity Honorees, Choudrant High and Ruston High were joined by Choudrant Elementary School and Ruston Junior High School as Top Gains Schools for the year.

The school system maintains a staff that consists of more than 95 percent certificated teachers, ranking it among the highest districts in the state. Twenty of the teachers have earned National Board Certification with 3 percent having achieved doctoral or specialist degrees.

More than 56 percent of all Lincoln Parish certificated personnel have master’s degrees or above with 42 percent of all classroom teachers having 15 years or more classroom experience.

The Lincoln Parish District completed its fifth year under the state mandate that all students regardless of diploma path were required to take the American College Test (ACT). Despite this

challenge, the parish public school composite score on the ACT was 20.7, surpassing the state average of 19.2. This ranks Lincoln Parish in the state’s seventh highest place for composite ACT, and it is the highest parish score among the 34 northern and central districts.

Strong partnerships with Louisiana Tech University, Grambling State University, and University of Louisiana at Monroe continue to strengthen instruction within a district that now offers 16 dual enrollment classes, 7 advanced placement classes, 8 preadvanced placement classes, 52 honors classes, 10 Jump Start Pathways, 11 science, technology, engineering, and math magnet classes, and 3 pre-STEM classes at the middle school level.

Furthermore, the district’s nationally recognized New Tech program continued its evolution of excellence with the “New Tech Academies” featuring highly engaging suites of electives within college and career tracks that include STEM, heath sciences, digital media, and agricultural science.

The Lincoln Parish School System remains one of the largest employers in the parish with a total of 829 full-time employees including 453 classroom teachers and operates on an annual budget of approximately $78 million.

Private, Charter & Laboratory Schools A.E. Phillips A.E. Phillips is a school located on the campus of Louisiana Tech University. A.E. Phillips is known for its strong academic learning and creative teaching strategies as well as its emphasis of the arts. The City of Ruston is actively developing pedestrian and bicycle paths connecting to and utilizing an abandoned railway path that borders the Enterprise Campus. Interaction between automobiles and pedestrians are being minimized with the goal of reducing vehicular traffic on campus. The end result will be a healthier and more environmentally responsible community.

Through a comprehensive University Master Plan and subsequent detailed landscaping master plan, Louisiana Tech is implementing a phased program to plant over 1,000 trees and to improve pedestrian paths and LED lighting. These plans are coordinated with and linked to the development of the Enterprise Campus, development in Ruston, and in the design and construction of University Housing and recreational facilities.

S.A.I.L.

Students Actively Involved in Leadership

S.A.I.L. (Students Actively Involved in Leadership) is a program which stemmed from Leadership Lincoln for Lincoln Parish high school sophomores. Through S.A.I.L. the students participate in monthly tours of area businesses, organizations, and institutions that represent our community in an outstanding manner. Community leaders offer insights into how our youth can make productive and positive change within their neighborhoods and schools while giving back in various ways throughout the community. Focus topics include government, digital media, economic development, tourism and hospitality, and much more.

Participants are also required to attend public meetings while becoming involved in volunteer projects throughout the area. Upon

graduation March, two students are chosen to attend Leadership Lincoln based on their S.A.I.L. participation. They will have the opportunity to expand their leadership skills even further. For more information, contact Judy Copeland at jcopeland@rustonlincoln. org. Class begins in the fall.

Ambassadors The Ambassadors are a prestigious group of Chamber members who want to volunteer their time to be a more active member within the Chamber as well as within the Ruston-Lincoln business community.

Ambassadors work with the Chamber staff and Board of Directors to increase membership, improve member retention, strengthen awareness of Chamber benefits, volunteer their time to assist with various Chamber events, as well as being a part of the decision making of our business community.

#EverydayExcellence #EverydayExcellence awards are presented throughout the year. The initiative grew out of a desire to recognize those within our community that go above and beyond to help showcase excellence by demonstrating is consistently where they are day in and day out. Within the Chamber, we see customer service as one of our top priorities. It’s something that is essential for our businesses to thrive.

Plus, we want to keep promoting the type of hospitality and service that will make Ruston and Lincoln Parish even more attractive to those outside our parish, whether simply passing through or looking to stay. The Chamber believes that in doing so, we will enhance the health of our business community and thus positively impact the economic development here through outstanding service. It’s no coincidence that we are connecting it to the “Excellence Made Here” emphasis within our city government and hope it will become a common goal for all citizens in Lincoln Parish.

Leadership Lincoln Identifying & Motivating Emerging Community Leaders Leadership Lincoln is in its 32nd year and has graduated more than 400 individuals who now know more about Ruston and Lincoln Parish than they probably ever imagined there was to know.

Leadership Lincoln is a nine month course that encourages participants to ask the questions “why” and “how” as we look at all facets of our community and region. Our goal is to help the participants acquire a better knowledge of the community’s strengths and challenges. Leadership Lincoln’s mission is quite simple… to develop the leadership skills and qualities within our students so they will become well-rounded leaders in their workplace, their church, a civic organization and/or local government.

Leadership Lincoln helps identify and motivate emerging community leaders, and challenges those leaders to increase their participation in the community.
