CGI ‘marketing images’ and Architectural Animations: High quality architectural visualisations, artist impressions and photo realistic Computer Generated Images (CGI’s).

Briefing: I work closely with the clients to establish a detailed brief. I need to understand the business objectives in order to produce the correct “fit for purpose” imagery.

Once the brief has been established we create a written version of what was discussed and request any information that will be required to create the visualisations.

3D modelling: I devide this process in 5 steps: Step 1Modelling: in the production process is to create the 3D model with the 3D modellers (Sketchup, Revit and 3D Studio Max). This model will be sent to the client for initial review. Following I model the landscape and some environmental context and add a basic lighting rig to the model.

Stage 2 Framing: I can choose different points of view of the scene and suggest a range of alternatives, as appropriate to the context and project requirements.

Stage 3 Draft Model: I output a white coloured clay model image on multiple sides of the proposal and add a basic lighting rig to the model. These images can be checked again and sent to clients for review.

3d Modelling

Stage 4 Materials: this is the texturing stage. At this point we add material finishes, textures and colours to the 3D model. These are applied almost like a skin that wraps around the 3D form. At this point the 3D model starts to come to life and we are edging closer to a photo-realistic visualisation. Now the client will receive proof stage two of three for comment.

Stege 5 Final Render and Post production: Based on the clients feedback we now make the final alterations and set the scene up ready for final processing with the highest engine render (Vray and Mentalray for 3ds Max).

At this point all textures are refined and a high quality lighting rig is applied to the scene. Special effects are now added such as bloom, glare and depth of field.

The next stage in the process is called post-works. The output from the render engine will look great but it can at times look a bit raw and perhaps too perfect.

Using Photoshop we enhance the raw render and add imperfections to make the visual more photo real.

Verified Views, traditional ‘Photo-montages’ Verified views can be created to different Accurate Visual Representation (AVR) levels and I can use pre-determined photographic locations, or suggest a range of alternatives, as appropriate to the context and project requirements.

Survey and Photography: Photographs are taken using the most appropriate focal lengths to ensure that the field of view covers the proposed scheme environment or landscape context.

Following accurate survey and mapping information I use to take the precisely record positions of cameras.

3d Modelling: I can prepare suitable 3D digital models using data provided by the design team.

This model of the development is then accurately positioned in the 3d model.

Working closely with the design team, the final model can have materials and textures added and colour rendered as required. Real-world lighting is created and cameras are positioned using the survey and meta-data.

Final rendered models are accurately located into the photographs, with all the adjustment the photomontages required and integrate the proposals into the surrounding context. The colours and the light are created using the survey and the meta-data to give the best effect of the finished project.

Presentation: Verified Views are usually presented in digital pdf or hard copy folios displaying the ‘existing’ and ‘proposed’ views, together with all of the viewpoint and photograph information as well as relevant methodologies.

Alternative presentation formats, such as digital only, posters or full exhibition displays, to suit your requirements.
