Think of your future self. Who do you want to be? How do you want people to think about you? Where do you want to go?

These are big questions. Don’t think small.

What we’re talking about is a journey to your destiny: becoming who you were meant to be, living the life you planned. But it doesn’t happen quickly, and it isn’t easy. It takes time, and it takes work. Most of all, it takes a network of people who have your back and want you to succeed.

You’ll find all that at IUP.

We’re more than a university. We’re a launching pad. IUP is the place where students have come for almost 150 years to get the skills they need to achieve some truly great things. They come here seeking the tools to land a rewarding career, and they get so much more. They learn teamwork skills. They learn how to look at things from all angles. They learn how to write confidently and speak with compassion. By the time you graduate, you’ll have the skills today’s employers look for.

It’s all part of what IUP stands for. We’re here to help you get to where you want to be. We do this by providing help for every part of your academic journey. We use our network of alumni to connect you with opportunities all over the globe. And when you leave here, you’ll be equipped to tackle some of the toughest challenges our world offers.

Does that sound like a journey you want to take? We’re ready for you. Join us.

As an IUP student, you will grow academically every single day. Your classes will challenge you, but you’ll find an environment that offers all the support you need.

You’ll work with faculty members who are passionate about their areas of expertise and more passionate about sharing it with students. You’ll be encouraged to take a deep look at the information so you can understand all sides of it. Plus, experiential learning opportunities, such as lab and field work and internships, complement what you do in the classroom.

IUP offers a range of majors, such as biochemistry, nursing, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, theatre, and education. There are also unique offerings, like the teamwork minor and the audio production certificate, that can complement your degree.

No matter what you choose, you’ll leave IUP equipped for a rewarding career.

LET’S DIG IN

To truly learn something, you’ve got to dive into it. You have to go beyond the information you have and wonder what else is out there.

Conduct experiments in the lab. Dig into archives. Explore the bottom of the ocean. Write a sonata. Take what you learn in the classroom and use it to find applications that can better the world around you.

Every year, IUP receives millions of dollars in grants for our faculty and students to undertake projects such as unearthing abandoned settlements, finding sustainable ways to harvest coffee beans, and discovering dinosaur fossils.

No topic for your work is off limits, from political science to medical science. People from IUP are gathering knowledge every single day. Every student–undergraduate and graduate alike–has the opportunity to join in.

Your résumé will stand out. Employers will see that you take things to the next step. They’ll see you’re curious and determined.

All of this experiential work is called research, and at IUP it’s in our DNA.

06 //

THIS IS IUP RESEARCH

1 OF 93

IUP is one of the few public universities–there are only six in Pennsylvania and 93 in the US–designated as a High Research Activity (R2) institution by the American Council on Education.

GET FUNDED FOR RESEARCH

Research happens year-round at IUP, but it really takes off in the summer with the U-SOAR (Undergraduate Summer Opportunities for Applying Research) program. It gives students in all majors the opportunity to do research side by side with a faculty member on a project of their choosing, gaining real-world experience that looks great on a résumé and becomes an invaluable career asset.

// 07

YOU WON’T HAVE TO DO THIS ALONE

Now and then, we all need a hand. At IUP, you’ll find people who can help you with whatever challenge you’re facing.

The day you arrive, you will be assigned to a faculty or staff mentor from the IUP Guides program. Throughout your career, this person will be ready to assist you. If you don’t need the help, that’s fine, too. You’ll also have an academic advisor to help you stay on track to your degree.

Now, let’s say you just want to know how to get a parking permit for your car or when to register for classes. A good place to get answers is the Hawks Q&A Center, where our staff members will either know the answer or help you find it.

There’s a lot more help available, too. If you want a better understanding of your coursework, you can get a tutor through the Academic Success Center. If you need a counselor to help you work through some things, you can find one at the Center for Health and Well-Being. The Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement and our LGBTQIA Support office are always there if you need help or just want a safe space.

Everything we do is geared to help all Crimson Hawks reach their goals.

HERE FOR YOU

The Center for Health and WellBeing offers services that address the key elements of well-being— physical, mental, and emotional in one location. That includes visits from therapy dogs who you can cuddle to relieve stress during finals.

HAVE FUN. WORK HARD. LIVE

LARGE.

A lot more is happening at IUP than just classes. Clubs and organizations are meeting in the HUB. Intramural sports are being played in the field house. Community service is going on everywhere. Students are also working out in the HUB Fitness Center, hanging out in the Oak Grove, dancing in Elkin Hall, and learning about other cultures at International Unity Day.

All over campus, students of all races, religions, and identities are finding ways to unwind and get to know one another. It’s all happening here, and you’re welcome to join.

We’re at our best when we learn from each other. At IUP, you’ll be part of a welcoming community that helps you feel safe and valued while expanding your horizons.

200+

student organizations you can join, ranging from fraternities and sororities to community service groups, arts organizations, academic clubs, marching band, and intramural sports teams.

19

NCAA D-II athletic teams on campus. Many are nationally ranked and you can cheer them on throughout the year.

There’s a lot happening outside of IUP, too, and you can be part of it. Off campus, there are parks and trails, art galleries, museums, and places of worship for every major religion. And IUP is roughly an hour from Pittsburgh, which has even more to do.

Balance is an essential part of college life. You should work hard in your classes but also find ways to relax when you’re not studying, reading, or writing. This will help reduce your stress and anxiety.

And who knows? You may build friendships and relationships along the way that will last a lifetime.

HOUSING AND DINING

Our residence halls offer everything you need to study, socialize, and make a home away from home. They feature six floor plans, with suites like mini apartments complete with private bathrooms.

But they also include all the things living off campus doesn’t—Wi-Fi, 24/7 security, air conditioning, and, best of all, your new best friends right next door.

Feeding your body is just as important as feeding your mind, and in our suites, you’ll have your own kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave so you can cook for yourself.

There are also many options to choose from with meal plans that can be used all over campus. Starbucks or Chickfil-A, sushi to burgers, crepes to pasta, salads to meatloaf or baked chicken. Vegan dishes, too. If you have special dietary needs, our dietitian will work with you to make sure you get enough to eat.

DINE IN STYLE

Ready to learn more about your dining options? Crimson Guide Abby explains what you can expect and shares some of her favorites.

Off campus, Indiana offers more than 30 dining spots within walking distance, including Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Indian, Italian, and Mediterranean restaurants, plus subs, wings, sandwiches, pizza, and much more.

AFFORDABILITY:

IUP PRIORITY

The most common reason students shy away from going to college is the cost. But at IUP, we’re committed to making an education not just affordable, but also a great value.

Starting in fall 2023, we will reduce tuition for undergraduate students from outside of Pennsylvania, and we have frozen housing and meal costs for six years. IUP gives its students millions of dollars in scholarships every year, mostly funded by grateful alumni.

It’s not just the education or the community that helps IUP stand out. It’s the resources you have available here, as well as the alumni network that you can tap into when you graduate. It’s the sense of community and belonging that makes IUP so special.

It’s an affordable education that has a value that will help you as you build your career.
