Introduction
Goa, the tiniest state on the western coast of India, boasts golden pristine beaches, palm-fringed avenues, flavourful food, delicious Portuguese-influenced sweets, and warm, hospitable people. Also known as the Ibiza of India for its partying. A tropical paradise of flora and fauna, from the very famous 'almi' (mushrooms) endemic to its forests, that grow only on the red mud anthills, to the solar prawns that are fished immediately after the monsoons, Goa is unique. Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivals - Carnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivalsthe International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. We were able to showcase Goa like never before. Soon our blog-based website transcended the virtual space, with the ItsGoa magazine – a sought-after resource for visitors to Goa from countries like Norway, UK, USA, etc.

Tsokha Lifestyle Store in Goa blends tradition and sustainability through handcrafted products, empowering women artisans and promoting soulful, purposeful living, led by founder Sparsha Deshpande Mann’s creative vision. cover feature

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Goa, Tsokha Lifestyle Store stands as a beacon of soulful living, blending tradition with contemporary design to create a haven for mindful consumers. Founded by Sparsha Deshpande Mann, a former fashion designer whose entrepreneurial journey was inspired by motherhood, Tsokha is more than a retail space—it is a heartfelt tribute to her daughter and a deeply personal expression of purpose.
From Fashion to Function: A Natural Evolution
Sparsha's transition from fashion to ceramics was not born of business ambition alone, but from a lifechanging personal experience. The birth of her daughter sparked a renewed awareness of sustainability, grounding her in a desire to reconnect with nature.
This shift led her to ceramics and lifestyle design, where creativity and environmental consciousness coalesce. Her time hosting at Anywhere Escapes further deepened this connection, revealing how functional art can imbue daily rituals with beauty and intention.
Craft ng a Consc ous Brand
At the core of Tsokha lies a carefully cultivated ethos —one that honours tradition while celebrating innovation. The store curates an eclectic collection of handcrafted products, including ceramics, candles, clothing, bags, artefacts, and scented sticks. Every item tells a story, stitched together by three fundamental pillars

Overcoming Challenges with Purpose
Building a brand rooted in intangible values like "soulful living" and "conscious craftsmanship" presented unique early challenges. Establishing trust with artisan communities, maintaining product quality amidst the beautiful imperfections of handcraft, and communicating the brand’s deeper ethos to a wider audience demanded patience and clarity.
These hurdles were met with authenticity, continuous dialogue with creators, and an educational approach to customer engagement.
Leading with Intention
Tsokha’s leadership philosophy mirrors its brand values: collaborative, purpose-driven, and community-oriented. Rather than top-down direction, Sparsha fosters an inclusive environment, where every team member and artisan partner feels part of a collective mission.
This ensures the brand remains aligned with its core identity, rooted in ethical creation and shared growth.

Growth Through Authenticity
Scaling Tsokha has been an exercise in thoughtful expansion. The flagship store in Goa offers a tactile experience, while a growing digital presence is making the brand accessible globally. With the upcoming launch of an e-commerce platform, Tsokha aims to connect even more deeply with audiences seeking intentional, beautiful living.’
A key to maintaining integrity during growth lies in rigorous curation, close collaboration with artisans, and a personalised customer experience. Transparency and storytelling continue to be instrumental in building trust and brand loyalty.
Innovation Through Soulful Design
Rather than chase trends, Tsokha reinterprets heritage through a modern lens. Innovation comes from reimagining traditional techniques into pieces that are both timeless and relevant. This approach ensures that the brand stays ahead not through volume or novelty, but by resonating deeply with evolving consumer values of sustainability, quality, and authenticity.

Tsokha’s Defining Milestones
Professionally, the store’s evolution into a respected lifestyle brand—where purpose, beauty, and community intersect—is a proud achievement. Personally, for Sparsha, Tsokha is a daily embodiment of the values she wishes to pass on to her daughter: reverence for nature, creative expression, and mindful living.
The Goan Symphony: A New Chapter
Looking ahead, Tsokha is set to unveil The Goan Symphony—its signature collection inspired by the sun-kissed serenity of Goa’s coastline. This debut ceramic line is more than tableware; it is a poetic

expression of coastal luxury, a celebration of the rituals that shape our everyday. Subtle, soulful, and hand-crafted, the collection marks a new era for the brand.
In tandem, the digital evolution of Tsokha is in motion, designed to offer seamless access to its collections while staying true to the core values of ethical production and artisan collaboration
A Harmonious Balance
For Sparsha, work and life are not separate but intricately woven. Her connection to ceramics remains therapeutic, and the peaceful rhythm of Goa, time with her daughter, and immersion in natural beauty are all integral to her creative process.
Wisdom for Aspiring n repreneurs
Her advice to others embarking on a similar path is simple yet profound
Root your business in purpose
Trust the journey and be patient
Cultivate genuine relationships
Stay authentic to your values
Listen to your inner voice.
Conclusion
Tsokha is not just a lifestyle store—it is a movement. A quiet but powerful call to slow down, live with purpose, and find beauty in the handmade. As it continues to grow, Tsokha remains steadfast in its mission to honour Indian craftsmanship, uplift women artisans, and promote sustainable, soulful living.
With The Goan Symphony on the horizon, Tsokha’s story is just beginning, echoing a promise of mindful elegance for years to come.
Aarti Sinha’s Okapi is a plant-based kitchen redefining vegan food in India with compassion, creativity, and sustainability —offering ethical, delicious meals that win over even non-vegan customers.

In a world where food trends come and go, Aarti Sinha, Founder and Head Chef of Okapi, has built something timeless—a plant-based kitchen powered by compassion. Since 2019, she’s been redefining the perception of vegan food in India, one thoughtfully crafted dish at a time.
Rooted in Purpose, Driven by Passion
Aarti’s journey into the culinary world wasn’t conventional. With a background in music and psychology, food was never part of her professional plan. But in 2019, led by a calling bigger than herself, she founded Okapi—a venture grounded in the belief that plant-based food can be both ethical and exciting.
Her vision was clear: to offer food that uses no animal products—no meat, no dairy, no eggs—while making the menu so delicious that even non-vegans would come back for more. The result? A vibrant array of meals crafted from fresh vegetables, grains, fruits, nuts, and spices, made available through a subscription-based tiffin service, event catering, and a line of popular desserts.
Compassion at the Core
What truly sets Okapi apart is its commitment to compassion. Aarti has built a workplace that radiates empathy—not just in its treatment of animals, but in the way it engages with team members, vendors, and customers.
She leads by example, encouraging her kitchen heads to mentor new staff and fostering a culture where everyone feels supported and heard. This philosophy doesn’t just create a happy team—it translates directly into consistent quality and warm, authentic service.
Growing Without Advertising: The Word-of-Mouth Win
Like many bootstrapped businesses, Okapi faced the initial hurdle of low visibility. With no marketing budget, the brand relied on the quality of its food and customer service to build a reputation. The gamble paid off. Today, over 95% of Okapi’s customers aren’t vegan, but they choose Okapi because the food is tasty, healthy, and fulfilling. For Aarti, this is her proudest achievement—a clear sign that her mission is resonating.

The Business of Scaling Sustainably
As the business matured, Aarti realised the importance of identifying what’s scalable. Not every offering—no matter how personally meaningful—fit into the growth plan. Letting go of certain menu items and streamlining operations gave her space to scale efficiently.
She now focuses on conscious marketing, ensuring her message reaches the right audience without compromising Okapi’s values. Collaborations and networking have also helped amplify the brand’s presence in a thoughtful, organic way.
The Reality of Work-Life Balance
Balancing a growing business with personal wellbeing is no easy task. Aarti admits it took time and conscious effort to manage both. Her strategy? Regular self-check-ins and elimination. She often asks herself: “What can I remove from my plate without compromising the core?”
Time in her garden and with her dogs keeps her grounded, and she encourages fellow entrepreneurs

often sneaks up unnoticed—and passion alone isn't enough to sustain a business long-term.
Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
For those just starting out, Aarti offers this wisdom: “Let passion ignite your journey, but let profitability sustain it.”
While emotional drive is essential in the early stages, turning a business into a profitable, efficient, and scalable venture is key to staying motivated and successful. She also emphasises that there’s no shame in admitting money matters—financial health allows founders to stay resilient and focused.
Looking Ahead: A Vision for Self-Sustainability
Aarti’s next goal is to make Okapi self-sustaining, with a team empowered to manage daily operations independently. This will allow her to focus on scaling the brand, expanding its reach while maintaining the authenticity it’s known for.
Changing the Narrative, One Meal at a Time
With Okapi, Aarti Sinha isn’t just running a food business—she’s building a movement. Through every tiffin box, every catered event, and every slice of cruelty-free dessert, she’s showing that kindness and creativity can go hand in hand. And as more people choose Okapi—not out of obligation, but out of love for the food—it’s clear her message is making a lasting impact.

However, her passion turned into purpose only when she noticed a gap in the market—a lack of personalised fashion options in her local community. This realisation marked the turning point, and 28 years ago, armed with just a home sewing machine, some sketches, and a resolute spirit, Marina began her entrepreneurial voyage.

The Power Moves That Changed Goa’s Business Landscape
Goa's business landscape is evolving through bold, sustainable, and creative moves—shifting from tourism to tech, hospitality to conscious commerce— making it a rising hub for innovation and impact.
Article by: Renata Fernandes
Images by: Freepik
authored article
Goa may be famed for its beaches and laid-back charm, but beneath the surface lies a dynamic business ecosystem that’s been quietly transforming. From tourism to tech, real estate to retail, a new generation of entrepreneurs and legacy players have made bold moves that are reshaping Goa’s economic story. These power moves—strategic, visionary, and often risky—have not only shifted the landscape but also opened doors for innovation, investment, and inclusive growth.
Here’s a look at the pivotal decisions and turning points that redefined how business is done in Goa.
1. From Tourism to Hospitality Experiences
One of the biggest shifts was moving beyond just beach tourism to offering curated lifestyle experiences. Entrepreneurs like those behind The Route Affair transformed simple Airbnb stays into soulful, design-led retreats rooted in local culture, Vastu principles, and hospitality that feels like home. This pivot elevated Goa’s short-stay market into a premium experience economy, blending comfort, aesthetics, and personalised service.
Power Move: Turning traditional rentals into branded experiences, inspiring a wave of boutique stays and niche hospitality brands.
2. Real Estate Goes Smart and Sustainable
The Goan real estate boom once meant concrete hotels and party resorts. But power players began investing in sustainable, culturally conscious architecture. Companies like Aaradhya Realtors didn’t just sell property—they promoted community housing, affordability, and environmental balance. This changed the perception of real estate in Goa from quick profit to long-term value.
Power Move: Prioritising eco-design, affordability, and local employment in large-scale property projects.
3. Digital Acceleration of Local Brands
Many local businesses—once reliant on seasonal footfall—made a game-changing move by embracing digital platforms. From restaurant owners using Instagram to drive bookings to spice farm tours selling online experiences, the shift to digital made Goan ventures visible and scalable.
Tech-savvy entrepreneurs even launched marketing agencies tailored to Goa’s growing SME base.
Power Move: Harnessing social media, SEO, and ecommerce to build year-round relevance and reach beyond Goa’s borders.
4. The Rise of Creative Commerce
Goa’s artists and designers began turning passion projects into profitable brands. Candle makers, ceramicists, crochet artists like Sakshi Shirvankar, and indie fashion designers moved beyond flea markets into curated boutiques and online storefronts.
The fusion of creativity and entrepreneurship turned Goa into a hotspot for conscious consumerism.
Power Move: Monetising local crafts and niche art by building modern, brand-driven small businesses.
Final Thoughts
The power moves shaping Goa’s business scene are not just about money—they’re about mindset. Entrepreneurs are thinking bigger, more sustainably, and more creatively than ever before.
Goa is no longer just a vacation spot; it’s a thriving testbed for new ideas, artistic ventures, and conscious capitalism.
As these bold decisions continue to ripple through the local economy, one thing is clear: Goa’s business story is just getting started—and it’s one worth watching.

The run-for-a-cause will take place during Goa’s stunningly rain-drenched monsoon season and is annually organised to raise funds for creating awareness about women’s health, education and environment.
Applications for participation can be submitted across the four categories, namely the two km fun walk, the five km dream run, the ten km and twentyone km timed runs.
Registrations for the event will close on July 20.
“We are excited to announce that registrations have opened for the upcoming Rotary Rain Run Goa 2025. We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and interest from participants and can't wait to see everyone there!
We hope first-time marathoners and experienced distance runners will sign up for this incredibly important charitable event,” said Avinash Singh Parmar, chairman and spokesperson of Rotary Rain Run Goa 2025.
The Rotary Rain Run 2025 will commence at the SAG Athletics Stadium, Bambolim, with a turnaround at the Miramar Circle for the 21 km timed run. The scenic course winds through the lush, seafacing roads of Bambolim and Dona Paula, offering runners a view of notable landmarks on their journey to the finish line.
