UNIDO The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations, which promotes and accelerates Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) in developing countries and economies in transition, with the aim to improve living conditions in the world’s poorest countries.
Accordingly, the Organization’s programmatic focus encompasses four strategic priorities:
CREATING SHARED PROSPERITY
ADVANCING ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENESS
SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT
STRENGTHENING KNOWLEDGE AND INSTITUTIONS
Each strategic priority includes a series of programmes oriented to achieve effective outcomes and impacts through UNIDO’s four enabling functions: (i) technical cooperation; (ii) analytical and research functions and policy advisory services; (iii) normative functions and standards and quality-related activities; and (iv) convening and partnerships for knowledge transfer, networking and industrial cooperation. Over the past ten years, UNIDO has considerably widened the scope of its technical services. At the same time, the Organization has also substantially increased its channels for mobilization of financial resources, gaining growing international recognition for its pivotal role in catalyzing industrial development.
