Generally banks don’t like flexible or variable high costs. They are however happy with stable and adequate budgets. Therefore stable budget should in a first line be adaptable to unforeseen peaks.

For this reason, Siemens and GEVA launched a Payment as a service Package solution (PaaS), which guides the Luxembourgish financial institution through the “ jungle ” of SEPA and PSD national laws and international reporting. In the past, both business partners already demonstrated their capacity to collaborate during several projects such as the DOMINIC POC at CETREL (implementation of a SEPA payment hub for 11 banks) or the SEPA DD program for Luxembourgian Bank.

Supporting Luxembourg’s hub challenges “Banks using the PaaS Service of Siemens IT Solution and Services Finance profit of these cost structural advantages, Philippe Houssier, CEO at Siemens IT Solutions and Services Finance, explained. Being inspired of the idea and convinced of the promising concept of Luxembourg acting as an International Payment Hub, we designed a shared service offering following this direction.”

“Furthermore, our Payment as a Service (PaaS) solution provides the banking institutions an access to a high available and state of the art Payment transaction platform,

Uwe Klatt, CEO at GEVA Business Solutions GmbH, added. The offering is compliant with today’s and future’s market requirements and is fully adapted to the actual and future regulatory frameworks (like PSD V4 and its transposition into the Luxembourgish law of the 10/11/2009 on Payment Services).” Thanks to its open, parameter driven and high availability based-architecture, the payment platform integrates the easy way additional optional services (AOS) like mandates management, as well as customer specific services (CSS) and processes. “We have created our Payment service center to take over the whole payment process, from the input of a payment transactions to the output to the various channels such as payment networks, communication and reporting. The financial institutions just deliver the basic data to start the process and we handle the processes and procedures ” Houssier commented.

Continuous service improvement Moreover, a high degree of flexibility will enable access to the internal systems as well as to the interbank traffic, based on state of the art communication channels (SWIFT, EBICS…).

A continuous service improvement will also be guaranteed by an evolutionary maintenance framework, as well as through the technology base of the payment application, both partners emphasized. “Our PaaS-based on the best of breed technologies and architectures like SOA, J2EE, ORCALE used for GEVA’s payment platform combined with the know-how and experience of Siemens for application lifecycle management and infrastructure management results in a unique Payment service, stable and innovative always on the technologies cutting edge and therefore extremely cost reductive.” GEVA Business Solutions GmbH is specialized in payment engines and is known in Europe for its strong background in the payment domain. For instance, GEVA Business Solutions delivers payment solutions in Luxembourg, Austria, Swiss, Germany and Belgium... Siemens IT Solutions and Services Finance s.a. (PSF) is known in Luxembourg and internationally as a leading provider of IT solutions and services. The company covers the entire IT service chain, while for the present service offering (PaaS) the infrastructure management and the Application Management experience and know-how are the most important chain links.
