Unique itineraries featuring a wealth of diverse destinations have always been a hallmark of Oceania Cruises. Only on a voyage with Oceania Cruises can you fully experience all of the history, art and cuisine of each magical port of call. 4

DESTINATIONS AMALFI | The Amalfi Coast stretches for 50 kilometres along a promontory from Sorrento to Salerno and is some of Europe’s most beautiful coastline. The road hugs the zigzagging bends and curves of the jagged coast, overlooking intensely blue waters and passing picture-postcard villages that cling to the cliff walls. Positano is the first port of call out of Sorrento, and it’s truly breathtaking with its tiered arcades of rose- and honey-colored houses that hover boldly over an iridescent sea. With a little exploring, you’re sure to find several beautiful cafes and hotels to die for. Tucked away a few bends farther is gorgeous Amalfi. Its former status as a supreme naval power that rivaled Pisa and Genoa is evident from its arsenal and imposing duomo. FLORENCE | Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in the world; for many people, it is the most splendid. Its palaces, churches and museums overflow with masterful paintings and sculpture. As the birthplace of the Renaissance, the city combines unequaled beauty with centuries of history in a heady mix. Your first glimpse of the Duomo is likely to take your breath away. The spirits of Da Vinci, Dante, Boccaccio, Michelangelo and the Medicis are palpable on virtually any street, and the days of the Renaissance seem close at hand. The vitality of this small city, the robustness of its cuisine, the enduring beauty of its architecture and the richness of its treasures cannot fail to educate, exhilarate and dazzle those who visit. ROME | Rome, the “Eternal City,” legendary home of Romulus and Remus and a fabulous parade of popes, emperors, dictators and artists. Still a center of western culture and Christianity, it is a fascinating blend of ancient ruins, churches, museums, fountains, piazzas large and small, parks, markets and marvelous shopping streets. There are many wonderful places to explore like the Piazza Navona with its magnificent fountains, or the Piazza di Spagna and the curving rhythm of the Spanish Steps, which connected the French quarter at the top of the hill with the Spanish quarter below. Leave time for a stroll down the Via Veneto and an aperitif at a sidewalk cafe. And don’t forget to visit Fontana di Trevi and toss in a coin to ensure your return to romantic Rome. SANTORINI | Santorini is regarded as the most spectacular of all the Greek islands. And no wonder — with its submerged caldera, postcard images of whitewashed churches and bougainvillea-clad houses set against blue sea and sky. Santorini’s spectacular caldera is a vestige of what was probably the biggest volcanic eruption in recorded history. The Museum of Prehistoric Thira houses impressive finds from the ancient site of Akrotiri destroyed in the 1650 BC eruption. Discover the gold ibex figurine, found in mint condition in 1999 and dating from the 17th century BC.

As the Mediterranean landscape begins to transform from bright summer hues to vibrant fall colors, so too does the energy and the pace. The ancient columns of the Library of Celsus in Ephesus cast long, dramatic shadows as the autumn sun crawls lower across the sky. Images of smoldering Mount Etna are framed in the glowing oranges and reds of the changing foliage of Sicily. As the summer travelers head home, the Colosseum in Rome seems to echo with the distant roar of ancient revelers witnessing the unfolding of epic battles, while warm breezes gently caress the golden vineyards of Tuscany and Provence. 10

Hubbard Glacier, Alaska Highlights: During every Alaska voyage, while cruising between Sitka and Skagway, Regatta passes the 122-kilometre-long Hubbard Glacier, the largest tidewater glacier in North America. It’s an amazing sight. Unlike most glaciers that are becoming smaller, Hubbard has been consistently thickening over the last century and advancing toward the Gulf of Alaska at a rate of 24 metres per year. You may hear it groaning and creaking and even witness it calving into the sea with a thundering roar.

Ketchikan, Alaska Highlights: Totem poles are one of Ketchikan’s chief attractions, and the best places to view them are Saxman Village and Totem Bight State Park. Drop by the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center to learn about the local cultures and ecosystems. Shopping: Creek Street is a great starting point. Look for hand-carved miniature totem poles and cedar-bark baskets. Dining: Ketchikan is the “Salmon Capital of the World,” and the salmon is prepared in countless ways — baked, grilled, or even dried and smoked into jerky.
