General Information

V E N T S

D ear I tasca Park D istrict Patrons: The definition of hibernation is: the condition or period of an animal or plant spending the winter in a dormant state. Some well-known creatures

that hibernate are bears, hedgehogs, chipmunks, snakes, bumblebees and turtles. Nowhere did I see people hibernate in the winter. At the Itasca Park District we offer programs and events that will keep you active during the “hibernation” period. Even though our pool has been put to bed, and our ball diamonds maybe covered in snow, there are tons of athletic classes and leagues, the fitness center, fitness classes and all our events that will keep your mind and body in motion. Our ice rink will be ready to go as soon as the temperature allows and the Winter Wonderland at Usher Park will fill the holiday season with fun. As we enter the spring season, March

and April start our bunny events which include various “hunts” and ways to welcome the new season. Itasca is hosting a gymnastics meet in April that will showcase our talented team. As always our outstanding dance program is getting ready for their recital in late spring. Most activities are held inside at The Recreation Center but you can still visit all our parks, especially the Springbrook Nature Center, and stroll on the various paths where you can admire nature in its purest form as it hibernates.

Linda Aiani President, Itasca Park District Board of Commissioners

Itasca Park District Mission Statement

In addition, the Park District provides other specialized services through NEDSRA. Call 630-620-4500 for further information.

Conduct Policy Behavior: Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make Itasca Park District programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. The Park District reserves the right to develop additional rules for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff and the park board. Participants shall: ■ Show respect to all participants and staff ■ Refrain from using foul language ■ Refrain from causing bodily harm to other participants or staff ■ Refrain from damaging equipment, supplies, and facilities Discipline: Itasca Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant for infraction of

the code of conduct. Each situation will be evaluated on its own merit.

ADA Statement The Itasca Park District will not discriminate against any eligible participant on the basis of a disabling condition. We invite any participant with a special need to contact our staff upon registration so that a smooth inclusion may occur. In addition to the programs listed on this page, our district provides additional services for people with disabilities through Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association.

Nothing ruins a good program quicker... than everyone waiting until the last minute to register. Please register one week prior to the first class to avoid disappointment.

Our Junior Kindergarten program provides excellent groundwork for Kindergarten and future learning. Using a theme-based curriculum, the class emphasizes alphabet recognition, phonics, and numbers. These skills are acquired through a variety of games, art, music, stories and science activities, along with daily small group work. The fourth and fifth day options extend the curriculum in a smaller group setting in order to provide more individualized attention in preparation for full day Kindergarten programs. The fourth and fifth days of the program are held at Springbrook Nature Center, which provides many opportunities for outdoor learning activities. (CC)

Dissecting Owl Pellets Learn about the eating habits of the owls living at Springbrook Nature Center. Do you know what an owl pellet is? Owls usually swallow their prey whole, and regurgitate what they cannot digest. See the various owls we have, the kind of food they eat, and dissect a pellet to see if you can figure out from the bones what the prey was. (CC) AGE: 8-12yrs DAy
