Early

D ear I tasca P ark D istrict Patrons:

As winter fades away and spring blooms into our lives, we’re eagerly anticipating the adventures that summer will bring!

With school breaks, vacation plans, backyard cookouts, lazy days at the Itasca Waterpark, Itasca Fest, and family get-togethers on the horizon, there’s so much excitement in the air as we prepare to embrace the warmth and joy of the season.

As you explore our parks, you’ll notice subtle and noticeable improvements. Benson Park on Mill Road has undergone a fantastic makeover! We’ve added four pickleball courts, a new shelter, sand volleyball court, wheelchair accessible WEGO swing, playground turf, and a water fountain – opening end of May. Unfor tunately, our grass still needs time to grow, so the new soccer fields are not open yet, but watch for more details.

In partnering with the Village of Itasca we were awarded a $600,000 OSLAD grant to renovate Usher Park. Over the next two years, we will replace the gazebo, make pathways more accessible, add nature related structures and pollinating plants.

We’ve also been hard at work at the Springbrook Nature Center, with new interactive displays, interpretive signs, and entrance signs to enhance your experience.

We have a special anniversary this year. Our Executive Director, Maryfran Leno, is celebrating her 30-year anniversary with us. The Itasca Park District would not be the award-winning, highly regarded, envied agency it is today without her vision, determination, energy and dedication to our community. We are lucky to have her leading our team of professionals and are incredibly grateful for her leadership and commitment.THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS MARYFRAN!

Have a great summer!

LPresident, Itasca Park District Board of Commissioners

What is a 0.5K Beer & Donut Run?

Some of you may have heard of a 5k, 10k, or even marathons, but what about the 0.5k? We are making your training for this race easier than the rest of them. This is for those who enjoy their Saturdays with a little more laidback style! The race is perfect, just a loop around Prairie Trail at the Nature Center; just try not to spill your beer (it’s bad for the grass) and finish that donut! There will not be an official timekeeper for the race because we are all winners! Afterwards, kickback and relax where there will be more Church Street Brewery beverages for purchase.

What does my fee include? Your entry fee includes an event t-shirt, event race cup, and (oh, by the way) a pint of racing beer or seltzer from Church Street Brewery and a donut! (Must be registered by September 6th to guarantee t-shirt size)

Must be 21+ to participate. IDs will be checked at check-in. Please drink responsibly. (ER)

Prairie Palette

Illinois is the Land of Lincoln; however, the prairie was here first, and Abraham Lincoln grew up on the prairie. A prairie is the most magnificent landscape anywhere, with beauty that changes about every two weeks from early spring to late fall. Its colors are vibrant, its insects amazing, its birds singing and breezes blowing make music for those who pay close attention. Spend some quality time in our prairie. We’ll draw, write, and listen to poetry, sing a bit, look at what’s growing, chirping, flying, or crawling, measure plant heights, figure out root depth, and come away having made friends with Illinois’ original plants. Join Itasca’s Inner Prestige Dance Team!

The Itasca Inner Prestige Dance Team will be back in the fall for its 14th year! The team participates in a variety of competitions, events and performances throughout the year.

Although Dance Team is full of fun, it is also a big commitment and a lot of hard work. Team members are required to sign on for the entire year. Members are required to attend all scheduled practices each week.

An informational parent meeting will take place on Friday, July 19th from 6:15-7:15pm in the Iris Room. This will give parents a chance to ask questions and review requirements and costs associated with being on the dance team, prior to try-outs.

Try-outs for the team will take place on Saturday, July 20th from 9:30am-12pm in the Iris Room. Dancers will learn several short routines and then be evaluated. Prior dance experience is required to participate on the team, but all levels of experience will be considered for placement.

More information about team will be given out at the parent meeting and try-outs.

Private Lessons

All available private lessons are available for purchase through our online registration system. 30-minute privates are $30 and 1-hour lessons are $50.
