A $2 million project of the Itasca Park District kicks off August 1, marking the first pedestrian pathway connecting the North and South sides of Springbrook Creek at Rohlwing Road. The project includes new pathways, boardwalk connections, a nature outlook, interpretive signage, fitness stations, field irrigation, and upgrades to the 38-year-old softball fields. The Village of Itasca is contributing $500,000 to enhance community access, complemented by a $600,000 OSLAD grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. During construction, the softball complex and Bird Sanctuary will be closed, but the Barking Lot Dog Park will remain open.
Registration Begins: Monday, August 5 at 8am
Keep an eye out for a community-wide survey in early fall, conducted by an independent consulting firm, seeking residents’ feedback and input on possible new projects. This survey will provide an opportunity for the community to voice their opinions and help shape future developments in the area
As summer draws to a close, we notice the signs of the season is coming to an end: vacation suitcases are back in the attic, school supplies are in new backpacks and tree leaves have a hint of yellow. The frantic pace of cramming everything into 3 short months has come to an end.
As in all cycles of life, autumn is the time to take a deep breath and reflect on the summer adventures. Some residents will have fond memories of the cicadas, splashing in the pool, walking through the nature center, or taking part in one of our many special events.
Over the next 3-4 months one can enjoy the beautiful parks that are a part of our Itasca Park District. Three of our large parks have either received major improvements or are under construction: Benson, Ray Franzen Bird Sanctuary and Springbrook Nature Center. Benson Park on Mill Road has new pickleball and tennis courts, sand volleyball, horseshoes and artificial turf was added for the playground.
When taking a friend to Springbrook, she was amazed at the various opportunities it offers for both adults and children alike. From the walking paths, to Wings and Talons, and into the inside of Nature Center building to tryout the hands on attractions.
The Ray Franzen Bird Sanctuary and Softball Complex will close on August 1st for a $2M project which includes connections, pathways and upgrades to the fields.
We look forward to seeing you in our parks and hope you make the most of these wonderful spaces!

I highly recommend the Itasca Park District Early Education Program for its exceptional care and enriching learning experiences. Two of my sons have experienced and thrived in the preschool program. The teachers ensure children are well-cared for while fostering a love for learning through fun and engaging themed units. The curriculum is age appropriate and prepares them well for kindergarten. We love hearing the kids sing all their favorite songs from school. The Park District & Miss Debbie truly create a nurturing environment for children to learn and grow.
Katie M.
My family has had a very positive experience with the Itasca Park District early education program. My children absolutely love going to school at the park district and the teachers are incredibly supportive. They do a fantastic job of preparing them for Kindergarten while keeping it fun and engaging.

Nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical, this sparkling Disney fairytale has been reimagined for the stage. The theatrical production of Frozen brings Disney’s beloved animated film to life and fills the stage with winter magic. Set in the magical kingdom of Arendelle, the story follows two royal sisters, Elsa, and Anna, as they navigate love, loyalty, and Elsa’s uncontrollable powers. In her struggle to understand her identity, Elsa questions her talents, confusing them for character flaws. Like every young woman’s coming-of-age story, she must find strength in her identity and gifts, looking both inward and to those she loves and trusts for support.
The stage adaptation maintains the film’s enchanting music, including the iconic and award-winning song “Let It Go.” Spectacular set designs and dazzling special effects transport the audience to the wintry landscapes of Arendelle, a land populated by fantastical creatures including Olaf the snowman and Sven the Reindeer. Frozen is a powerful fable that captures the essence of sisterhood, self-discovery, and the enduring power of love, making it a magical and heartwarming experience for audiences of all ages. The show is at the Paramount Theater and includes lunch, show and transportation. (MT)
