Schou Retires
Faculty & Staff News
Sue Schou knew she wanted to teach when she was just eight years old, but she never thought she would teach statistics. “My professors would all be amazed at where I ended up, as I had no hesitation expressing my dislike for probability as an undergrad,”said Schou, noting that her favorite courses to teach were actually trigonometry and applied calculus.“Teaching statistics grows on you and I have enjoyed a far richer experience, as it changes constantly.” Schou began her career at ISU in 1986, eventually teaching for 30 years. “The most influential experience on my teaching stats was participating in grading theAP stats free response statistics exams. This helped both my design and assessments and my evaluation of student responses,” said Schou. After teaching her last course in the spring of 2019, Schou has labeled her retirement a “rebirth of opportunities.” In this time, she plans to continue traveling, reading, learning new things, visiting her family and giving back to her community.
