Welcome to your journey at the International School of Switzerland. On behalf of our entire school community, I extend a warm welcome to you and your family.

The International School of Switzerland is located in one of the most beautiful locations in the world: Lugano. With its rich Italian, German, and French influence, we enjoy a crossroads of culture that rivals none. I personally love living in Lugano as a place to raise my family.

In the 21st century, learning goes beyond simply acquiring information. To prepare our students for an unpredictable future, we emphasize critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and inquiry over rote memorization.

Our 12-year education program actively develops essential habits to nurture independent and selfmotivated learners through the Internationally developed 21st Century Learning Design framework.

At The International School of Switzerland, we recognize the importance of innovative tools in education. Copilot, an AI-powered language model developed by OpenAI, offers exciting opportunities to enhance learning experiences for students and educators alike.

All of our classrooms have been transformed into 21st Century Classrooms, featuring interactive ultra-wide projectors or Smart TVs

for e-learning, and furniture specifically designed to allow for flexible lesson arrangements and dynamic learning. Every student is equipped with a Microsoft device to enhance their learning experience.

In 2024/5, the International School of Switzerland was awarded the title of “Microsoft Showcase Incubator School,” recognizing our efforts in utilizing Microsoft tools for education. This title affirms our commitment to leveraging technology to positively impact student learning.

We consider technology integration fundamental to the future success of each student. That is why we are now the first Microsoft Showcase Incubator school in Switzerland. You can see this in the classroom through our AI studies program, coding club, robotics workshop, virtual reality labs, app development course, cybersecurity training, data science bootcamp, 3D printing studio, digital design classes, augmented reality projects, tech entrepreneurship program, and drone technology workshops.

This course tells the story of Switzerland from the beginning of time right across history, geography, philosophy and religion. It gives students a coherent narrative of how the past has shaped their world and an appreciation for where they live.

In today's job landscape, effective public communication is a necessity, and we are dedicated to nurturing the confidence and proficiency needed to excel in this vital skill. That is why each year we hold public speaking competitions with students going on to compete nationally and internationally.

Our co-curricular and immersive learning programs form the basis for student growth, fostering diverse talents. Daily co-curricular activities from 2PM and annual immersive camps enhance language skills, provide real-world insights, and contribute to a holistic educational experience, nurturing academic excellence and a profound understanding of the world.

LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Our Language Program uniquely Swiss with students learning English, Italian, and German or French. Students are vertically streamed, engaging with peers at their language proficiency rather than just their age level. Furthermore, our curriculum extends beyond language acquisition, incorporating Individuals and Societies (History, Geography, Business, and Economics) in each language, to ensure comprehensive language development with real-world applications.

STEAM PROGRAM

Our STEAM Program purposefully connects Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. This visionary program not only prepares students for the challenges of a technology-driven world but also fosters creativity, critical thinking, and innovation.

Our Asian and Middle Eastern Capabilities Program focuses on fostering business, cultural, and historical knowledge and understanding. It includes cultural understanding courses, cultural exchange programs, and curriculum enhancements to promote an understanding of these diverse regions.

UNIVERSITY PROGRAM

Our Senior School Program, in collaboration with university partnerships, uniquely allows senior students to undertake university subjects while still in school. This empowers them to explore their passions, gain valuable insights, and earn early university credits, providing a solid foundation for higher education and beyond.

This innovative program equips students for life after university by fostering wealth creation through entrepreneurship. Each group crafts a compelling business plan, which they present in a 'Dragons Den' inspired competition, vying for a coveted 1000CHF prize.

Education at The International School of Switzerland is an exhilarating journey that knows no boundaries. Our - beyond the classroom - experiences are purposefully designed to ignite passions and foster skills beyond the ordinary. Our "After 2" co-curricular program empowers students to explore diverse interests, enhancing their capabilities and sense of purpose. Immersion and residential programs nurture global citizens, while ski and summer camps infuse adventure into learning. These cocurricular programs are the driving force behind developing well-rounded and inspired learners.

GLOBAL IMMERSION

Immersive learning opportunities are core to our teaching and learning philosophy at The International School of Switzerland. The purpose of these frequent excursions and camps is to provide a unique and enriching educational experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning. From traveling to foreign countries for immersion in language and culture, skiing down mountains and exploring nature, these experiences immerse learners in new environments and challenge them to think outside of their comfort zone.

2025-2026

OCTOBER ‘25: History Immersion in Rome learning about the history of the Roman Empire.

APRIL ‘26: Nature Immersion camp that takes students on an expedition in the Swiss Alps. They learn about local ecosystems, glaciology, and environmental conservation. Activities like hiking, skiing, camping and studying local wildlife foster an appreciation for the natural world.

JANUARY ‘26: Literature immersion tour of London walking in the footsteps of literary greats such as Shakespeare, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, J.K. Rowling and J.R. Tolkien.

APPLICATIONS FOR 2025

Application Process

We understand that choosing a new school can sometimes be a daunting task, but the admissions team is here to guide and help you in any way they can. This page and our online guide are designed to assist you with the process, but please do contact us with any further questions you may have, we will be delighted to assist.

Stage One: Enquiry

An enquiry to us is the first stage of the admission process. Following your call or email, we will invite you to: An information evening (virtual options also available) 1. A Taster Day, which is a fun, informal day for children to get to know staff and other pupils.

2. An individual visit, to tour the school and meet the principal.

Stage Two: Apply Online

Scan the QR Code above and you will be directed to our admissions portal, where you can create an account and gain access to all the necessary documents for the application process, which you can conveniently complete and submit online.

Stage Three: Assessments

All pupils will sit papers in Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning, alongside a short interview. We naturally do all we can to make the entry assessments as friendly and good-natured as possible - for children and their parents! These papers are designed to look for potential. For entrance to the Senior School for 2025 students will need to sit and pass the Common Entrance (CE) exam.

Stage Four: Offer and Acceptance

Students will then be offered places at the school on the basis of their performance in the entry assessment. The final forms will then need to be completed online and returned within four weeks with the deposit.
