College Preparatory Curriculum Ursuline Academy offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum with additional opportunities for elective course work to support individual growth and development. Criteria for acceptance into AP and Honors courses are specialized and selective.

Grading and Ranking Policy It is the policy of Ursuline Academy not to rank our students.

Our selective admission is based on an entrance test, grade school record, recommendations, interview, and application essay responses. Only semesters completed at Ursuline are included in the Ursuline GPA. Additional weighting of 0.6 for AP and Honors courses is added only in determination of the GPA and is not reflected in the numeric grade.

Spiritual Formation and Serviam , “I Will Serve” Ursuline education is rooted in the belief that students’ spiritual life is to be nurtured and developed. Through an array of curricular and extra-curricular activities, Ursuline students discover the possibilities that faith in Jesus Christ offers. In formal classroom settings, teachers offer education in theology. Likewise, classes in literature, social studies, and the sciences align the strong tradition of Catholic social teachings into discussion and analysis of topics at hand.

Students’ faith is further nourished through the annual retreat program and during school-wide Eucharistic liturgies and studentled prayer services. Daily life at Ursuline begins and concludes with

a time of prayer and includes the opportunity to spend time in one of two chapels, where daily Mass is offered.

All Ursuline schools share a commitment to forming students as servant leaders. Under the banner of the Latin word, Serviam, Ursuline students and alumnae reach out in service to society. The combination of service projects initiated by the students and servicelearning activities incorporated into classroom instruction develops the spirit of Serviam. What begins with defined activities that address community needs expands into the understanding of local and global issues that call for action in the promotion of peace and justice for all.

My academic experience at Ursuline was a holistic approach that combined rigorous academics with excellent teachers while sparking an interest and a passion for learning. What I loved most about that experience was the close connection, constant availability, and willingness to help of my teachers, both inside and outside of the classroom.

My first Ursuline mission trip to Belize profoundly altered my priorities and perspective. I am inspired to appreciate the simple things in life that we often take for granted, to consider others in my local and global community who are not similarly blessed, and to feel the charge to make a difference.

Students entering Ursuline not only join a school, but a community of sisters who encourage each other’s success. This community of support is invaluable in academic and personal growth and allowed me to develop into the independent young woman I am today. I know I will have a lifelong connection with my Ursuline sisters!

There are many advantages of attending an all-girls school, especially the ability to become a presence in the classroom. All-girls schools encourage women to explore and participate in all subjects. Through discussions with teachers and classmates, I have learned how to listen while also forming and believing in my own opinion.

Through Serviam, we are taught to value each and every person, and to find a way to serve people in a personal and meaningful way. Moreover, Serviam isn’t a requirement you finish at graduation; rather, it is something you carry with you for the rest of your life.

Ursuline showed me how beautiful it is to have a community built on faith. The support and love from faculty and friends has given me the confidence I need to be a leader. I am not afraid to stand up for what I believe in and to change this world, not with great acts, but simply with love.
